Have you ever heard of Eddie Sutton? Or Billy Cylde?
Eddie is hall of fame I think. Pope is way worse than Eddie! He’s probably a bit worse than Billy. Pretty much the same! Pope has never and will never win a championship at any level as a coach! He’s trash

I want you to explain how 2008 and 2009 were better teams than 2025 and 2026. I really want to hear you thoroughly map this out.
Idk i didnt get to watch 2008 I was 3

What I DO know is that 25 and 26 were unbearable

I always heard stuff abt rondo and patterson having juice, cant say that about anyone in the pope era imo

Hot take…I respect Saul Smith for how he played in that Sweet 16 loss to USC his Senior year. That loss broke me, because it was the first full season that I watched alone without my papaw or uncle and i was convinced we were gonna make the Elite Eight and have a chance to beat Duke. Almost no one showed up against the Trojans but Saul Smith kept hitting big shots and playing his butt off to get us back in the game.

He may be a bad person, or so people say…and frankly he may not have been the best player throughout his career — but on that night he busted his tail.
Speaking of the Trojans. Did you see the heat they are catching now? Musselman to be exact?

Dumb take, Glenn.

Seriously, lots posted on Paddock a few years ago could be classified as dumb. Ed323232 defending Dick's Sporting Goods was absolutely classic until mods locked and deleted thread after Edstein complained.
Defending Dicks for what?

So you know 25 and 26 were bad, but didn’t watch 08 or 09….and will definitely go on record that Pope’s teams were “way worse”? My friend, that doesn’t make much sense.

Let’s compare the four teams by SRS:
2008 finished 62nd in the country.
2009 finished 32nd in the country.
2025 finished 14th in the country.
2026 finished 24th in the country.

Let’s compare the four teams by NCAA Tournament seed:
2008 was #11 seed
2009 missed the NCAA tournament
2025 was #3 seed
2026 was #7 seed

Let’s compare the four teams by KenPom:
2008 finished 78th in the country.
2009 finished 48th in the country.
2025 finished 16th in the country.
2026 finished 29th in the country.

What happens here is people want to be hyperbolic so they will hand-select a stat can make this look closer to fit their own purpose. An example would be comparing the teams’ overall records without context or their SEC conference record/ranking. However, let’s compare these teams by strength of schedule.

Let’s compare the four teams by SOS:
2008 played the 42nd SOS in the country.
2009 played the 32nd SOS in the country.
2025 played the 3rd SOS in the country.
2026 played the 7th SOS in the country.

Let’s compare the four teams by NCAA Tournament finish:
2008 lost in the first round (R64)
2009 did not make the NCAAT (DNQ)
2025 lost in the Sweet Sixteen (S16)
2026 lost in the second round (R32)

I don’t know who you’re getting your information about college basketball history from, but I’d ask that you stop listening to them. They don’t know very much about Kentucky basketball history or its teams.

This is really not a debate at all. I've been here since high school in the early 2,000's. There have been some absolutely retard level comments here. There have also been some of the best collection of basketball talk of anywhere you'll go.

The board really began to go downhill during the calipari era. I rarely come anymore because the board has way too many who are total excuse makers and we've never been like that here. The hiring of Mark Pope unfortunately is still being embraced by way too many. I don't think there could be more evidence that he's a bad hire.

His hiring has also brought out the worst things I've seen here. Totally illogical comments that make me question the collective IQ today. This ain't hard.

" You would have fired coach K!" This might be one of the lowest IQ ******** comments I've ever heard in the board. The comparisons to older systems, comments void of how logic works such as insinuating he could be the next Dan Hurley, negating the fact that Hurley already had a ton of success at St. Benedicts turning them into a national powerhouse, or forgetting he didn't start in the NIL era.

Comparing men from 6o years ago to the modern NIL era. Losing sight that Mark isn't young, has never been a good coach, has never had success at any level, and is getting older.

It's amazing how any UK fan would even entertain this. Either you're blind by coach love or you're pretty stupid. it's one of the other. If Mark turned out to be Kentucky quality, it would be one of the biggest career turnarounds and "wtf" moments I've ever seen in college basketball. To go from bad recruiter, average floor coach, and bad coaching record spanning more than a decade to suddenly Kentucky level badass would be worth a top contender for things that cant happen but somehow did.

And we apparently have a large segment that cannot grasp the 100% factual reality of any of that. I expect it from people who lack knowledge of the game and don't have 2 cents worth of an education, but this is brutally stupid for anyone who's supposedly educated and understands how logic works.

The base is getting soft and it has never been softer. I go back to 1985, again, not debatable. Kentucky fans would have never accepted 2 seconds of this at any time in history. It's sad to see it taking place, but some would ride this sht show all the way to 30 years of no final fours and then say something stupid like "Kentucky ain't got no money it ain't on Mark Pope!!! We a pour place!!!! He's gonna be bObBy hUrLeE!!!!!

It's so trash IQ that I would rather not even participate in this dumbassary and haven't been.

You come on here to beetch and moan and you choose to do it about the small handful of people that actually support Pope and not the slew of nut jobs on here. Check out the list that liked your post. That’s where you are.

I’ve been on record multiple times saying I wish we could have moved on from Pope after last year but knew it wouldn’t happen but guess what, I’m a Pope Pumper because I’m hoping he surprises us all and turns things around. Even called that by you.

Again, if you think the problem with this board are the few that actually support Pope, that’s a you problem.
