Well, he has one one the biggest NIL budgets and a blue blood program. In today’s basketball every new coach starts with a blank canvas. Not to mention, Cal had very little when he came here and had an amazing season in 2010.
Name another coach that started a new job and had 0 players, or coaches… .. in April.
Not only that, but he played a top 3 SOS and in arguably the toughest conference ever.
Cal had to get rid of players when he came on. Not only that, but 2009 was a different time.
That same coach was at UK in 2020/21 when we saw the worst season in our history with 4 NBA talents on the roster. He also has our worst two NCAAT losses ever and he did it in consecutive years, with a bunch of NBA level talent at his disposal.
So, Cal wasn’t even able to come close to 2009 Cal, how can we expect Pope to be better, even though he has been?

Are you seriously comparing whatever conferences Wagner and Rhode Island play in, to the SEC?
Sorry, 3-13 and 5-11 is pretty awful. I'm not sure what point you were trying to make, but it fell flat.
Ohh, I'm sorry, did Pope start coaching in the SEC to begin his career?

Wait, let me get this straight, 15 quad 1 wins snd a sweet 16 in year 1 with zero players to start and 3 starters out/injured isn’t good enough, but Todd Golden getting San Francisco to the NCAAT is supposed to be awesome? Hilarious.
Yea. First time they went in 20 years. Where did we finish in our own conference again?

Wow.. a sw 16 at UK! Holy ****! It's not like we haven't done that half the time since the sw16 came into existence.

#3 SOS with injuries. That matters. We were a 3 seed for a reason.
In year 1 with no players to start… in April and 3 starters out/injured, is a problem. Hurley and/or Golden wouldn't win snot in that scenario either.
Wow, a hard SOS, well this changes everything and obviously means we didn't finish 6th in our own conference! Lulz

You mean Pope was barred from brining his own players like every other coach? He wasn't allowed the instant transfer portal like every other coach? He wasn't allowed to get players to return that were already here? He wasn't allowed to re-recruit HS players thats had already committed here or elsewhere? He wasn't allowed to keep former assistant coaches that were strong recruiters and had relationships with former players ans recruits and that expressed strong interest in staying?

Oh, for sure. Pope's resume definitely proves that. 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

Exactly. All these guys do is focus on the disastrous 25/26 season, it certainly was a disaster, but the 24/25 team, with a healthy Butler, Carr snd Robinson, gets to at least the Elite 8. Saying Pope is trash, is ridiculous and shows immaturity. There aren't too many coaches that can do what Pope did in year 1 with 0 players to start with and massive injuries. We were a 3 seed with some massive wins.
I know of none that would do what Pope did year 1. I’ve never seen any team by any coach just quit like that.

The hell with the injuries. That’s no excuse for quitting. Maybe you won’t win. But you can’t just quit. Pitino’s first team was undermanned every game. They lost 14 games. But they never quit. And UK fans loved them.

I was in MSG for the Ohio St game. I saw them quit. I was in Bridgestone for the Ok and Alabama games. We tried to give away the Ok game. Then just forfeited the Alabama game without officially calling it a forfeit.

All the signs for year 2 were evident year 1.

Year 1 just had a bunch of guys that had been coached elsewhere and had some foundation to fall back on.

There are no excuses for Pope. The dude is 20-16 in the SEC. The worst 2 year SEC record by any UK coach ever.

And his teams quit!! That can’t be said enough.

I’ll type slow so you can follow along. You are are too stupid to have basketball conversations with. If you think the year 1 team quit just because your little beetch arse was at a bad game, you’re pathetic.

No excuses for year 2. All on Pope. Year 1, sometimes things aren’t excuses but reasons. Anyone that’s not a whine tit can see that. Conflating years one and two is just a sign of ignorance.

and there’s not a doubt in my mind you weren’t in MSG.

2 seasons, 2 games.
One's tall. One's short.
One wears a hat. One doesn't.
One's a Mormon. One is presumably Catholic.
Is there a point to this rhetoric?
I'm off the Pope bandwagon, but I didn't come to that conclusion in just 2 games.
Because that would be frighteningly stupid.

This isn't even close. Stein was probably the best oc in major college football for the last few years at one of the most prestigious football programs in the US. He is a young, major up and comer.

No matter his ties to UK, we would've been thrilled to get him.

Pope was a hc for over 10 years. Never coached at a high level school. Never won an ncaa tournament game. Was about halfway through his career when hired.

But for his ties to UK, he would've never been even remotely considered for this job.

Except they didn't if you go back and watch the game.

Why leave out the 3rd as well?
Left off the third because he’s not the one you lied about. Rewatched the 2nd half. Flagg or Knueppel never left the game. Much less for extended minutes with cramps. Lol

Amazing you’ll show zero grace to your “favorite team” but will lie and make up excuses for Duke of all teams.

I guess we will always have the early regular season win against a Duke team that lost Sion James to injury in the first half and then had Flagg and Kueppel out for extended stretches with cramping in the 2nd, allowing us to go on a late run. I wonder if Pope can get him a banner hung for that?
Correction, James did not get hurt in the first half. He got hurt at the 12:48 mark of the second half.

My Cattorney is a liar banner is ready if you want to hang that up.

Definitely get me a banner.

So, you acknowledge James was hurt during the game? What was the score then?

Also, you got me, it was Maluach who went out with cramps around the same time and Flagg was dealing with fatigue he had to leave due tk cramping 3 days prior in the Army game.

These events started around the 13 min mark of the 2nd half with dealing leading by 9.

One coached his team to be one of the 16 best in his starting season despite having a roster that was decimated by the previous coach and one is likely to have a losing record.

And look what Pope did his first year in the SEC and I'll remind you, the SEC, two years ago, was the strongest conference in the history of the sport. With a lot of injuries, he did a good job, not great, but better than your dad did his last 4 years.

You guys are only using 24/25 to judge the guy, that makes you ignorant and shallow. Have fun with that.

Yeah, a sweet 16 with a brand new team, a hobbled pg, a hobbled pf, missing your starting sf and no backup pg.

I mean, name me another team that went further with that many injuries. Your daddy never has.

If you play a Rick Barns coachet UT team and you're key players are injured, good luck to you.

Apparently you live in video game land, the rest of us live in reality.

I guess we should just go back to our previous coach where the players simply didn't care about UK. They only cared about themselves. Guess that was okay with you aye?
How many times did Cal have a massive talent advantage and lose?
But let's see your coaching resume, obviously it's very impressive, I mean, you have plenty to say about the job Pope has done. Why don't you take the job?

“These events” lol

UK was down 6 when James went out.

What I will acknowledge is that I caught you lying to make it look worse for the poor boys from Duke.

You lied about when James went out to make it look worse.

Then you “mistook” ONE player for TWO players, who never missed a minute of play and happened to be Duke’s top two scorers.

and then, you double down with some BS that a 17 year old that had a cramp 3 days before in a 50 point blowout that he played 25 minutes in was dealing with fatigue. lol

Also, Flaggs fatigue was pretty well documented.

Does UK win without those things happening?

Do you acknowledge making up lies to show grace to Duke. I bet you were just devastated when Butler had to sit with foul trouble.lol Malachi played one less minute than Butler did and was in the game for the final stretch when Carr got the big three point play against him.

If you think a 17 year old was fatigued because of a cramp 3 days earlier, you’re too stupid to have a conversation with.

No. I just mistated who the players were. You still had to acknowledge James got hurt and Maluach had cramping. Flagged dealt with fatigue.

Why would I be devastated a player got fouls? Isn't that the player's doing?

His fatigue is well documented. And if he was fatigue just 3 days prior, how is that magically cured 3 days later? Make is make sense at least.

We were losing by 9 when all of this started. Fact is UK loses that gane if Duke didn't have their issues.

Sorry for dragging this on guys. Just wanted to highlight how stupid and/or how much of a fraud this guy is. @Cattorney Im so so sorry UK won this game. Must have been tough. UK won that game plain and simple.

You can’t make this stuff up folks. A 17 year old got fatigued in the second game of the year. Because of a cramp. lol and it carried over to the next game. Good grief.

You didn’t teach anybody anything. If you believe that crap because “Flagg said so”, you’re a moron. He didn’t struggle with cramps like you said in the second half. He only “struggled” when he had the ball stolen from him and then turned it over later. Just excuses for the golden boy. Given by himself no less. 🤣

If your so dumb you think a 17 year old was so exhausted in a game that they for the most part have to play four minutes at a time, that’s on you.

Remember, this all started when you lied and said Knueppel and Flagg sat out EXTENDED minutes in the 2nd half. I called you out and said they actually played every minute of the second half. Then your goal post starting flying around like it was ‘97 UK vs Bama.

I mean, there is documented proof of it, but if you choose to live an alternative reality, that is your right.

Cooper Flagg fights through fatigue, injuries in strong rookie year https://share.google/JwZcTnvl1rCXR3O6T

Also dealt with it in the NBA.

I guess I'm as dumb as AI then.

What goal posts flew around? Did you not concede that James and Maluach both went out with Duke leading? Is there not documented proof of Flaggs fatigue and cramping issues.

Sure, I was wrong about Kueppel and Maluch. Doesn't really change much.

The fact remains Duke would have likely won without those circumstances as they wre winning pretty easily before them. However, if that Duke win is pretty much what you're hanging your hat on, that says a lot about Pope and the current state of the UK basketball program.

I don't think you've realized yet you just helped further prove my point. But I guess only "dumb" people can see that! ;)

It's sad that you don't understand the difference between UK and some mid major school in Utah.

Did Hurley win back to back titles at UConn? Did he even win one? Did he even get to a sweet 16 at RI? Doesn't look like it. So tell me, why was he able to do it at UConn and not Rhode Island? I'll wait.

Hurley turned around a Wagner program and RI program, winning the a-10 and a-10 COY. He then turned Uconn around and they were on probation thanks to Ollie. That was before NIL and the portal.

So, now you Pope!
