It took Stoops 12 years to beat a top 10 team on the road

I have a big belief that Stein is going to kill it here, but to be a little fair to Stoops the program he took over was much different than the program that Stein took over. Stoops inherited a roster that would have finished in the bottom half of the MAC. He didn’t have much chance for success at all that first year.

If you rank UK coaches by their SEC winning percentage, which is a measure of your supposed peers, Stoops comes in 4th. Behind Bryant, Collier, and CurcI - which is about where I think he belongs. Stoops all-time wins record is built on an extra guarantee game and frankly by sticking around the longest. Good but not the best by even UK standards.

But, does anyone else get the heebie-jeebies about the fact that the 2 other UK coaches that won their initial road SEC game were John Ray and Joker. Not the 2 names I would want to be associated with.

but who were those teams and why even bring it up xD everyone knew Joker wasn't the answer before he even took over. It was ridiculous.

Also I think Stoops is 2nd or 3rd. He won games he never should have won but he never did it with style and the last 5 years taint the 5 year stretch of really good play.

Florida was awful. How many coaches have they fired? He had some good years, but you just highlighted a 4 year run out of 12 years. That’s not good especially for the amount we paid him.

Kentucky does need to find a way to keep him. But only if he continues to perform. We should NEVER pay a coach until he proves he deserves it or we end up in another stoopid situation.

That’s true but look how long he was here. It wasn’t under Ole Miss a couple of years ago that he beat a top 10 team on the road. Even his 2018 and 2021 teams couldn’t do it. So yeah maybe it’s an excuse for the first handful of years but not after that.

Good news is Batt can’t be any worse than Barney with contracts. Those were unforgivable!

clearly best option is shorter length, or more incentive based (also no guarantee extensions).

That is true, plus he had to really recruit guys to believe in something to come here at all. That said, the fact Stein won a game like this in his second SEC game ever is insane. I hope we get to see what his team looks like in 10 years. We may actually be looking forward to Football season every year very soon.

I’d much rather them pay way higher salary short term(3-4 years). Rather than middle of the road salary for a long term that never ends if it goes south.

Im sure the stoops nuthuggers will also forget the fact that Stein has 1 less gimme game a year now. Take away that 1 game against a stinky team that nobody before him nor after him had and he’s no longer the winningest coach. He’s tied with Bear.
