All they had to do was have either the qb or the punter run to back of end zone and take a safety. Literally all they had to do.
He didn't even use both hands to cover the football.

So you're saying that the QB waited until there were 7 seconds on the clock so fix a game? He better be glad his own team didn't recover the fumble or those gamblers would have been looking for him.

I made the comment in the game thread…. That was a true Kentucky football kind of play from back in the day. It’s games like that that get a coach fired.
The dropped TD pass (which likely was a fumble) by UK on Saturday was a very Kentucky football kind of play. The fact that a) Stein didn't let that get them down and b) the receiver who dropped it came back and had a huge day showed me that we might be in a new era of UK football.
I'm going to try to argue the other side of this one (it's not easy).
QB knew he had to run off 6 seconds. One-one thousand, Two-one thousand........ That feels like an eternity when you KNOW that Vandy gets the ball with another shot if you fail to run it off. If he had run out the back of the end zone, or just fell on the ball, there could have still been time on the clock.
That being said, there are lots of things he shoulda coulda woulda done. Even holding it for a couple seconds and then throwing a ball way out of bounds would have burned 6 seconds.
And as others have said- just keep two hands on the ball. Sheesh what a bonehead play.

Originally I thought it they should have punted it, but there's a new rule this year that if you fair catch a punt you can have an uncontested free kick from the spot for a field goal. Meaning, let's say they punted it and Vandy caught it at the 40. If they did a fair catch, they could kick a field goal from the 40 without the chance of getting it blocked. I still think it would have taken more than 6 seconds to do that, but whatever.
If you were to just tell your QB to run it out of the end zone, worst case they have one more play from probably their own 35. I'll take my chances with that.
