What’s the difference if the “pay” is indirect? It came from the same pot didn’t it. That’s how it applies. Tax dollars are tax dollars and waste is waste. Your analogy doesn't work regardless because California fully funds the non-emergency Medi-Cal health coverage for undocumented immigrants, using state-only funds rather than federal reimbursement, which they have every right to do especially considering how much they contribute to government revenue. We discussed this a couple years back and I explained to you then the reason they fund it is because it's cheaper than the cost of uncompensated care and it leads to fewer ER visits.

in reality, at least in my world, there is a definitive need for some of these migrants - both those here legally and those here illegally. Our problem is that we don't have a way to deal with individual cases, our system is "one size fits all". But in reality there is a difference between the migrant who has been here for 10 years, has a job, pays his taxes, raises his family and the migrant who is here living off the American social safety net program.
The Haitian TPS is one example. Some of these folks have become key parts of the food service, healthcare systems and are now being deported. There are not Americans standing in line to take these jobs...sure some of these people should go, but there should be a process for some to stay...
