It destroyed JP's Life and it will eventually claim others as well.
JP Pelzman was one of the most intelligent and accomplished writers I have ever known personally and he was fired after a lifetime of accomplishments. It affected his mental wellbeing and led to his passing.
I was at his funeral and it was a who's who of media members and acquaintance's in attendance.

Pete had had some health challenges over the past year and had been in a physical rehab for months, but as he said, this was unexpected.
I wish you were right, but I doubt that seriously. It's an awful time to be a print writer,especially an older one. There are electronic places out there, but nowhere near enough to absorb the hordes of writers who lost their newspaper and/or magazine jobs with the development of the Internet
Too bad, always enjoyed his work. Gone are the halcyon days of reading about SHU wins over rutgers in the Ledger over a Taylor ham, egg, and cheese sandwich.
Print media dying a slow death. Now it’s about scoops/speed versus accuracy and content.
Sadly I agree. SHU once had a thriving journalism curriculum and a solid core of students (myself included) who advanced through it and into the print media. Several were very close friends who were affected by the changes and cutbacks but were able to navigate the rough seas. Several others were less fortunate and had hard landings. Most if not all of them at least got a reasonable heads up and transition period --unlike Pete Genovese. His departure was handled in as disgraceful and brutal a manner as possible. Shame on the suits who did that to Pete and probably others.
I noticed he wasn’t being featured as often in their never ending best of food listicles. I’m sure it came down to nothing other than having younger workers making a fraction of his salary to do the same work.
Typical behavior by the Star Ledger . About 20 years ago they had a big cut in staff with buy outs .

And they were beaten pretty badly on the Lt Governor story.
I saw this coming the early 2000s. To be surprised in 2026? Not sure who wanted to be a blacksmith in the 1920s, but that was a bad choice too.
