Guys I am afraid Jon Sumrall is awakening a sleeping giant at Florida. They stomped Ole Miss 52 to 28 today.

2nd choice? He already took the florida job before Stoops was gone. I think he would have 200% been first choice for UK if available.
There is absolutely no excuse for Florida being bad for so long. Good history, in state talent, and plenty of money. Looks like they finally have a real coach.
He’s good. It does make it easier to have in state talent to grab from but I fully believe ole miss, lsu, lville, etc are all average teams who are fringe top 25 but not playoffs by no means. Florida in the other hand is a top 15 in year one. He would have been great here but no better than what stein is doing. It’s why he’s coaching a place made for winning with access to any recruit he wants
Yep. Sumrall was my top guy. I think he would have come to UK if Mitch had been pro active earlier but Mitch drug his feet. Turned down Auburn but couldn’t play off Fla waiting for UK. Fla had been all in on Kiffin.
I contacted Mitch and Mark in 2022 recommending Will Stein as a potential OC when he was at UTSA. Never really thought of him as a HC because of the lack of HC experience particularly coming into the SEC. However, Will is more mature and prepared than I thought. He’s learning but sharp and fearless. Happy to have him in that spot.
Let’s see how good he does without all the talent he inherited and when that OC leaves.
I think the OC is much of it, dude is gone after this year most likely. But heck what do I know I thought they would lose Golden in basketball and he stayed.

I like Stein but I love Sumrall. Sumrall is just another in a long line of Barnhart massive screw ups. Fire Stoops 2 weeks sooner when he should have and we have Sumrall right now.
And if he don’t bring that OC from tech and the qb from tech what do we have? Baugh along with all the Florida talent also wouldn’t be at Kentucky.

I don’t doubt he can get talent there but he inherited a lot along with getting a top OC. He’s obviously a good coach but I’m more than happy with stein. Easier to replace dcs than ocs
He will do just fine. Hell, he hired the OC. He brought plenty of talent with him. That dude is a legit ball coach.

Didn’t say they would. Said he had a lot already there to build on. Didn’t have to get 60 new guys like stein did or like he would have if he came to Kentucky.
Not even a question. He would’ve 10,000% been out first choice. I’m thankful we got Will and think we hit a grand slam, it just seemed like destiny that Jon would be our coach. I would’ve rather him go about anywhere else than a SEC powerhouse program. lol I wouldn’t trade Stein for anyone in the country right now.
What main talent did he bring with him? I know he hired the OC. That OC won’t be there long though. I like having an OC as head coach over a defensive guy personally.
The oc leaving will be the end of this sweet run. However long he can keep him will directly impact his tenure there. Until that happens having that offense with their defense is a great combo.
I was glad to get away from the stoops tree and get Brad white out of Kentucky as well.
We wouldn’t have a third of the recruits on offense looking at us now unfortunately and you have to score in today’s football world. Love Sumrall but he wouldn’t get the recruits here that he’ll sign at UF.

November 14 Florida comes to Kentucky. That’s going to be a massive game for both coaches. I’m sure they both know that a lot of the fanbase wanted Jon for several years. Hope Stein can win that one for his sake.

I said he’s a good coach for sure. Just said he wouldn’t be doing what he’s doing now at Kentucky imo. Wouldn’t have near the talent he has now.
Ole Miss is overrated not to mention they won the game of the year last weekend. Everyone should have expected a setback today.

I’m really happy with Stein. But, if Mitch hadn’t dragged his feet firing Poops, we could have at least offered Jon. He would have been a home run! The dude has won everywhere he’s been.
It's mainly because he snagged Buster Faulkner away from Georgia Tech as his OC, just a matter of time before he leaves there & gets a head coaching job. Combine talent with his play calling & you get instant offense. On a side note, the Ole Miss defense is total ****, Auburn didn't allow them to score like that. We get Florida at home so that will be a really fun game.
We have the better coach. Let's see how good Florida is when they play a team that has a real defense. They have not played one yet.

If I did want to play devils advocate on my pro Sumrall stance, I think there’s a good chance Ole Miss would have played bad today regardless of who they played. They treated last week like a National Title game. A letdown was almost certain.
I still think Sumrall is the real deal and Florida is likely a playoff contender but I do want to see them against another good SEC team first to be sure.
For his sake? Dude nobody and I mean nobody will pick UK to win that game other than the UK fans who never pick against UK. Florida will be at least a double digit favorite. Love Stein but we simply don't have the talent Florida has at the moment.
Ppl just assume Sumrall wanted the UK job, he was a candidate for several elite programs....theres no info he was a shoe in to take this job with powerhouses extending him offers
Sumrall not mine we have a better chance with stein and his connections in Louisville along with nil money . Miss has absolutely no defense and Florida's defense not much better we will score on them I like our chances
