Yeah the celebrating afterwards was pretty sickening, very low class and disrespectful. Either way, I feel he should be suspended for the year for just those actions alone. Send a message of who’s in charge ie Riley or the players, be interesting to see how USC handles this.

I think the scumbag that took the cheap targeting shot on a sliding QB and then celebrated and continued to laugh on the sideline should be suspended at least as long as Moore is out if not longer.
I wish they could start giving fines for actions like that (or the Texas celebration). These guys are getting paid now, so fine them when they do something like that. It's probably not allowed by the courts, but I wish they could.

Man, it was sickening. That program is just trash and their pr dept put out an apology by Desman Stephens when there’s like a 99% chance he’s incapable of articulating something like that. Half their team were laughing it up and grab assing on the sideline while Moore was still laying on the field.

The laughing and carrying on afterwards was certainly disgusting and the league should send a message by penalizing him for those actions. It’s not sportsmanlike and there is no place for it.

But I disagree about it being a cheap shot. He had just started to ready himself for the tackle when Moore started his slide. The slide needs to be done away with. Defense is put into position to determine (in a millisecond) if a QB is going to slide or lower their shoulder and try and pick up a few extra yards. It’s a lose lose for the Defense and hits like this one hurt QB’s more than just allowing straight up football to take place. If a QB is going to slide he needs to do so well before the defense has a chance to initiate a tackle but then it’s still subjective. Once the QB crosses the LOS, he’s a runner and should be treated as such. Just play football.

One game suspension lmfao. They don’t care. They put out some BS PR message and the coach apologized. The player said he’s sorry and totally doesn’t want that to define him. He’s not really like that guys!

If it had just been the dirty play itself, a one or two game suspension probably would've sufficed, but the celebration after the play and the laughing on the sidelines should've warrented a disqualification for the rest of the season and maybe more if he had additional eligibility left.

If was coach and saw my player hit a guy sliding and see how badly he was hurt due to his cheap shot and then celebrate it even more. Im throwing that player off my team I dont want him in my locker room.

Moore should be back in a few weeks but doubt hes the same at least for a while and he was the potential #1 pick.

This was my take exactly. In the moment a defender has to prepare for contact and usually that only leaves a split second between when a QB goes from full run to slide and the target hit zone goes from chest to head in a blink. That some defenders still finish off the hit with their arms when they could have eased off as much as possible to lessen the blow in that moment. I think this guys could have eased off more than he did and his BIG sin was the assanine mindless celebration after. Some of these guys are so wired up with look at me bravado they do stupid stuff like this on a regular basis because its their mindset. Its why they celebrate after every ordinary tackle or play which you never saw in the old days.

He should have came out for the draft last spring when he would have been the 2nd or 3rd pick in the draft. Now he may not even go first round.

Situations like this are exactly why you leave if you are projected that high. You do not come back.

The conference should suspend the defender for the rest of the season. The celebration while the qb was down shows he had zero remorse. Send a message or this will just be a regular occurrence.

If he does it is in the playoffs, if they make it. He should just try to get healthy again and just worry about the NFL. I know that is what a former coach would tell the player.

He’s getting paid a handsome sum right now. He definitely needs to return and play.

This is my take as well. The celebrating afterward was indefensible, but the hit itself did not strike me as being as bad as others are making it sound.

Moore definitely slid late. And when a QB slides late it’s really hard for a defender who’s already gone in for the tackle to pull up at the last split second. What can look like a cheap shot when you watch a slow motion replay becomes more understandable when you watch in real time speed and consider what was going through that defender’s head at that moment.

Anybody that's played football...actually played and not just been on the team can understand the other player in the heat of the moment. Especially the headhunters. When I played i was trying to kill the opponent every hit.

Remember my coach coming to me after I hit a receiver down low and he tore his knee up..he said you just ended his season...all I did was look at him and said good.

Now after the game I wished no bad towards that player. Didn't want his season to be over..but in the middle of a FOOTBALL game I might have gotten carried away.

So im not going to bash the guy for the trash talk after laying the other teams qb out. It's just a violent sport period. A man's sport. Talk that trash. I get 99.9 of the board will disagree. Oh well.

It amazes me how many people think that was a cheap shot it wasn't I hate he got hurt but the truth is he slid late. It was a bang bang play. Dont want the QBs hurt slide sooner or don't run at all. We have turned into such a wimpy society. Football is a rough brutal game, shi@ happens.
The sideline antics by USC on the other hand after the play, we're way out of line. USC coach is the one that should deal with this in-house not the conference. Odious as thier behavior was name a rule they violated. The coach however can call it behavior detrimental to team and take appropriate action, given its Lincoln Riley I doubt he does.

The QB run really needs to be addressed.. the defender has no idea if they're planning to slide, lower their head, stay upright, or even go full throttle into a defender. Id have to rewatch the Dante Moore one, but ive seen several this year already where the defender looks to just be trying to stop the run, but the QB lowers and bam, personal foul. Theres just no way these defenders can make the "safe" play when the QB can completely manipulate it.

Same goes for the run up the sideline. The QB just has to go slightly off to an angle, and the hit to the QB becomes a personal foul. If defenders start to let up going for that hit, then the QB can attempt to sneak through, or stiff arm them better to gain more yards.

Regardless, I dont know if Dante Moore is truly an NFL QB. And if hes out for a few weeks/doesnt look right the rest of the year, hes certainly gonna drop, maybe even to the 2nd round and beyond. Theres a lot of QBs who can make a legitimate claim to be a top5 pick.

With what we know about concussions today you simply can’t do this anymore. It’s awesome seeing guys get laid out but do it the right way. These kids playing today really have no excuse. They’ve been taught since peewee football not to do that and their muscle memory isn’t that of ray lewis.
i think the accidental and minor targeting stuff like we had last weekend with our guy is just the risk you take playing the game and the suspension is for the rest of the game is fine.
But what the usc kid did here should warrant a season long suspension especially after celebrating It knowing he was down but there’s absolutely no way to prove that and police that where he’s always just gonna say he didn’t know. The game has evolved, I got two concussions playing football. I still get migraines to this day from it. It’s a different world though. If I had boys I’d let them make their own choices, but I sure as hell wouldn’t recommend it.

I tend to agree. The conduct after the play was just inexcusable. I didn't really have a problem with the play though. The defender had already started preparing for the tackle, and then QB started his slide. Nothing really the defender can do at that point.
