Agreed. I think it was obvious he just let the guys play loosely with just a few general actions and principles. It’s the easiest way to see deficiencies in people’s games. It’s not controlled so you see where they thrive and where they need work. It’s what you use exhibitions for.
Yeah, they cant play any worse offensively than they did last night. They definitely looked like they were just shooting from the hip offensively, but they did look good defensively.

I'm encouraged by the numbers Zoom put up against good BIG10 teams last year. You don't put 18 on a Tom Izzo coached MSU team if you suck. I expect both our starting guards to look completely different against Texas Tech. If they do, the narrative in here from the whiners, should be fun.

i guess this totally explains all the missed layups, missed free throws, zero transition points, and just 8 offensive rebounds while shooting so poorly.....
Did we really have 0 transition points? If so that is very concerning since that is one way his teams have scored here fairly well.

I know that’s not true. Milan’s 3 was transition. Mason had a layup in transition. Zoom did as well. We shot 43% from 3 which is where a lot of off rebounding usually comes from.

only one i remember is the 3 milan made when he pulled up and got fouled with no call. hawthorne and ndiaye blew dunks. diallo missed a layup.
I remember those lol, I supposed Milan’s steal and behind the back 3 counts, but that was more his skill vs. the team running transition offense. That’s bad.

I wouldn’t have thought it was true but we did blow a lot of bunnies and didn’t have any dunks really. It didn’t feel like we had a lot and only scoring 69 in a game like this was not the way to start the year. We shot the 3 well, but again 69 points on 13 makes from 3 is not great. Usually teams put up 90 with makes like that.

I’ll take only giving up 49 points and still scoring 69 points shooting missing easy shots. Kansas gave up 62 to a terrible Pitt St team and only beat them by 18.

Yeah, but I care about what we do. Everyone has bad games, but it looked similar to last years issues.

Me too . Pope does too . He knows how important that game is .
Personally, I think the Stokes thing should and did really piss Pope off. I think it made things personal and rightly so. The kid was an absolute punk in how he did us, regardless of what you think of Pope. He had to have been told Stokes was ours or why else does he fly assistants to Atlanta for the announcement. Total and utter BS!!!

Stokes is a punk . But Pope should have known he was being played. Pretty much all of the basketball world knew it .

My concern is all the turnovers against a weak opponent. The turnovers looked a lot like last years. Running a vanilla game plan doesn't include 19 turnovers. It's only 1 game but that won't fly against a good team .

The high pick&roll and Zoom action are staples in a Mark Pope offense. Didn’t see much if any of that tonight. So yeah, I believe him .
I was going to say something similar. I don’t know offense was being run, if any.

It certainly wasn’t zoom. And I’ve seen better picks in a pickup game.

And what defense? Looked like the same ole hope they miss defense we have played for two seasons. And they did just miss. Outside of a few good blocks by Moreno. But even those wouldn’t have happened if ALR had known to pump fake and dish.

Pope is just talking his normal post game nonsense.

Agreed. Lot of fans say we need to play better defense then when we do it’s we need more offense.
Exactly. It shows the over the reactionary extremism of part of this board. I see ten threads a day that Pope should be fired and the BB team sucks...one exhibition in. Then we win 6 games in football and some people are calling for a $200M contract and new stadium to keep Stein from leaving. Whee.....

I agree with this so much.
