Why would the CIA director ever personally go to Moscow?

CIA Director John Ratcliffe is in Moscow for a surprise, unannounced trip to hold high-level meetings. Neither the U.S. nor Russian governments have officially stated the purposes?

I think the visit had to do with the financial pressure being applied to Iran.

The U.S. reportedly offered Iran a deal to halt the siege and lift sanctions in exchange for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ending proxy attacks, according to Al Arabiya. Axios also reports that Rubio told several foreign counterparts the U.S. does not plan new strikes on Iran for now, with pressure shifting toward the naval blockade and new sanctions campaign instead. Crude Oil fell 4% and the 10-year treasury bond fell from 4.72% to 4.62%.

The nukes are still run off floppy disks. At least that’s what the 60 minutes said a couple years ago.
well if 60 minutes said it, it has to be true....but think about this and extrapolate..one of the most important things in the government - nuclear weapons - is controlled by decades old technology. Democrats want to go to Medicare for all, healthcare controlled BY the government. What is the expectation that they will provide sufficient funding to keep up with medical equipment advances? in 2050 we'll be using the same diagnostics as today.

yea, I know Medicare for all will be different...it always is.

Yep even I didn’t have “MAGA will become the pro-Russia party/administration” on my bingo card.

My question is if the diesel deal actually helps Russia. Are they really producing diesel fuel that they can't sell because of sanctions? My guess is that Russia can sell all they produce to China, India, Turkey, Brazil, and even a few EU countries. Isn't it just a matter of who buys it? Their oil production has only declined slightly since the war started and a lot of that must be due to war damages to their infrastructure. I don't think they've backed off due to lack of customers.

to be fair, we run nukes on old tech because 1. it's airgapped, 2. it's incredibly expensive to retrofit our entire nuclear arsenal, and 3. the old tech is incredibly reliable for what it's being asked to do (minimal glitching/software crashing.) From a security standpoint - the old tech is the best option to prevent against hackers and foreign actors.

Appreciate you’re being facetious but obviously didn’t fight “alongside” but did fight a common enemy…. Then there was that thing called the Cold War, which I believe you experienced part of yourself.

General George S. Patton held an intensely hostile view of the Soviet Union, viewing the Red Army as a barbaric and Asiatic threat that required immediate military containment rather than diplomatic accommodation. He believed that Allied forces should have captured Berlin and pushed into Eastern Europe to prevent Soviet domination, famously stating that if war with Russia was inevitable, "Let's do it now while our army is still intact and we can kick their hind end back into Russia in three months
