Are we a program? We are playing with everyone but are 3 plays from losing 3 games. I am enjoying this winning but I’m also not silly enough to believe we are Georgia. We have a long way to go to be Indiana.
I don’t think Indiana has ever ran through a large part of the SEC and won games like this.

Look at indianas schedule. Get ready to laugh.

I won't miss him. But he was realistically probably the best we were gonna get during that time.
The best we were going to get at that time??? lol, he is the second best coach we have ever had, he is the only UK coach to have 2 10 win seasons, he took over a 2 win teams loaded with 2 star talent and built it into a 10 win season without the portal. Yes at the end he was awful, and yes he was paid way too much, that is not his fault, would any of us turn down a massive raise at our jobs?

Oh I’m sorry, I forgot we played Charleston state and Delaware state and East Bangladesh as our OOC schedule.

but here I’ll make it where even you can understand what I was saying.

FOR US, 10 Wins in the regular season means playoffs. And even for Candy and their abysmal OOC slate, beginning next year it does for them too.
"10 win seasons mean playoffs now. 9-3 does not-though it probably will beginning next year."

Oh, I'm sorry, when you say something, I'm supposed to decode the hidden message in your straight forward statement.

You said that 10 wins means playoffs. I simply showed you where it didn't always. No need to get pissy, no attack was meant.

So then we agree? I don't know why you're so hostile. I've literally said the same thing throughout this thread. You will get no stoops slander from me. I know what he was up against. When we fired Joker Stoops quite literally was the only person who even wanted the job. Yes he was our best option by far.

Yea people who don’t understand his situation still have opinions on it. Stein has spoke to what he’s doing here.

1. Home program, grew up thinking about playing at UK, not the NFL.

2. Stein wanted to get back home to raise his kids with his family. He is HOME and his intention was to be here for that reason.

3. The NFL will chew him up and spit him out. It doesn’t matter how good of a coach you are, that league is a fraud and a business and I doubt Stein has any allure of hurting his rep by jumping in that BS. He’s raising babies and he’s home with his family.

Stein has no reason in the world to leave UK. He can stay and build a national power at this program in the best conference in the nation. We will pay him more money than he needs, paying coaches category is top 5 here.

Yeah what's the list of coaches that were successful in college and then successful in the NFL?

1) Jimmy Johnson

????

If this were pre-NIL I would say jump to a traditional blue-blood or NFL (and then return to a blue blood when you inevitably fail in the NFL - see Saban, Urban, etc) because you have to strike while the iron's hot. But with NIL there's no reason you can't build a big time winner at a place like IU, UK, UCLA, in college football.

Sounds silly but if Stein jumps after a year or two he loses that good faith he built with Kentucky fans. The childhood of loving UK, Sissy's Cakes, etc.....it no longer has meaning. I may be simply experience wishful thinking, but why not ride this out here? See what is truly possible at Kentucky. If it goes bad he's still young enough to rise up again. But once you leave this place, it's gone.

Stein isn’t leaving for another college job. It would be like one of us having tremendous success at UK and then leaving to go coach Ohio State. Kentucky will match whatever the big guns throw at them from a contract and NIL standpoint. With that said, none of us would leave Kentucky if we had them rolling and he won’t either.

NFL is a different beast. I do worry he will take a shot there eventually. But if he does, let’s hope it’s not for a while.

Seriously?? They just won a national championship???? The pentacle, the top, nothing higher. Do they play in the SEC? No. Is it easier to win a championship in the B1G? Most definitely. We are playing well. We are not playing National Championship football. Indiana did.

As good as we all think Will Stein has been and will be, it makes little to no sense to think Texas will or would hire a young coach with 7 SEC games as a head coach. We might worry about losing Stein after two or three seasons with super success, but certainly not now. I think Will has more charcter than to bail affter one year from a school that gave him his first head coaching opportunity. There are maybe 5 or 6 football schools that are blue bloods. Bama, Miami, Texas, OSU, Mich, and maybe Florida State. These schools would not hire Will Stein today for next year with his track record, not that his record is the issue, the length of his record certainly is as of today. We just need to relax and stop worrying about Stein leaving Lexington after one season and enjoy the ride.

You're literally wrong. Dan Hurley -> immediately to Scott Drew -> immediately to Mark Pope. Pope was the 3rd man on the list. It was a lazy and incompetent hiring process from the incompetent Mitch.
0-1 on Star. 0-1 on top levels down. Then Pope

I might be late to this.. but Texas is rumored to be coming for Stein if they move on from Sark.

IMO, that means we absolutely have to root for Texas ROS. They are one of the few schools I think can potentially steal him.

I think he really wants to win big here. With NIL, Indiana has shown anyone can win. You just have to hit on the right coach. Kentucky is not poor by any means when it comes to NIL. With that established, I don’t believe he would leave for another college. I would think the big names (Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas, Michigan ext.) wouldn’t mean anything to him now that he has the ability to win at his dream school. The NFL is the only place I worry about swooping in and taking him.

Also, another thing people don’t talk about. He has a young family. Having his kids grow up around his relatives might really mean something to him. That might play more into the decision that most people think.

Lots of teams are plays away from multiple losses. We are definitely not UGA or Indiana yet, but our culture sure is changing. It takes a great mindset to win multiple SEC road games and to do so in uncomfortable/tight situations. At some point it isn't a fluke anymore. We are 6-1 because we are simply good.

I dont believe UK hired a Lane Kiffin. I dont see Stein leaving for awhile unless the university does not support him or things go terribly in the opposite direction. He also seems like the kind of coach where you would hear it in interviews if he wasnt liking it here. The last coach hired away from UK was Guy Morriss and the only other one didnt have the support of the University. Everyone knows how that turned out... We dont have Coach Rupp on the Bball side this time, and Stein is the golden goose of the athletic department. The new AD is well aware of that.

Its gonna be up to UK and it will be a tough pill to swallow. If you want Stein here, its not JUST going to be because he has family here. They have to find ways to at least be a top25 spender on the roster, but maybe more. If a program like Texas can supposedly pay double for their team, thats hard to pass up. It means that Stein would be working with a huge disadvantage if he doesnt have that, and someone else does. So youd be kind of dumb not to take it. As Matt Damon's character says in The Departed "the day wouldnt take a promotion, let me know"

With college basketball a total mess because of NIL (football is still a team sport so the programs/coaches have more control), I would not be upset if we pulled a few mil from the basketball roster and rolled with Stein and UK football for a while. College basketball is broken and if Duke is just going to double spend everyone else, its going to be hard to compete anyways.

I say lean into what we have with Stein and become a football program as best we can.

Brother. Asking Dan Hurley after he won 2 titles and then asking your buddy in Scott Drew, is not in ANY way a coaching search.
EVERY chest puffing Rafters poster on this board demanded Dan Hurley. Are you suggesting extending feelers was a bad idea? Because the UK AD gets skewered if fans hear Hurley inquiry was not attempted. If that is your claim, your Monday morning QBing is hilarious.

I dont think youre wrong. You make a great point, and I agree the athletic department is going to have to have his back and a vision for the future. With the SEC revenue being higher than other conferences and UK football revenue being higher than the other sports, I dont believe you would have to take anything away from basketball but Im not certain.
A program spending more might make it easier to recruit players, but they will always want to play for a head coach. That has been a constant from preNIL to the current landscape. Higher spending comes with higher expectations and less patience. Stein can win 6-7 games a year and keep his job in football at UK for a decade. He'd be fired at another program after 2-3. He's done well with the current support and we all would hope that would continue.
You see it with a lot of basketball programs (UNC, IU, UCLA, ect.) and some with UK right now. At some point spending has a ceiling towards success and the coach plays a greater role to achieving it.

Good analysis. I do see Steins plays are designed well, the players are executing well and seem to be on board. We need that crazy talent others have. The problem with talent is sometimes you get it and lose the execution and locker room.
All phases need to come together to win big.
