In order to encourage other healthy discussion and traffic on the board here, after suggestions from a few posters we’re trying a few limited scope topics away from SHU. Please stay away from politics/religion. The thread will be monitored and locked if it goes too far south.
I just finished the new season of Killer Dinner on the Try Guys 2nd Try app. It’s a murder mystery show with games while guests try to find and banish the secret killers among them before they get “killed” by a “poisoned” dinner item. It was a fun show and Pirate Queen absolutely loves the Try Guys.

I will post topics and pin them to the top of the board. I will monitor them to ensure civil responses.

Pls stay on the topic for each thread and do not discuss politics or religion as those controversial topics will not be accepted.

Wait a short while while I set up the above threads.

Thank you.

Just reread Night by Elie Weisel. Read it every ten yrs or so. A roommate in our Sr yr at SHU told me about it when he took a class with Sr Rose Thering. SHU was the first university with a Judeo-Christian Studies program.

I like the movie One Battle After Another, saw it was based on a Thomas Pynchon novel, Vineland. Read that, not bad but was amazed at how little is the same from book to movie. Always wanted to read Gravitys Rainbow (it came out while in college), but not sure I have it in me anymore, I get lost lately on long Pirate Hoops posts.

Apocalypse Now has been on hbo recently. Just bought Joseph Conrads Heart of Darkness, which the movie is based on. Havent started it yet. Hey Kurtz, Im coming

I can remember, 2nd semester frosh yr. Dr Scanlan, a terrific English prof, assigned Crime and Punishment, told us to buy the black paperback. I paged thru it, 500 pages, small print, all these long Russian names (Raskilnakof, what were you thinking) this is more than I read in 4 yrs of HS lol. But I read it. Was a lifechanging, experience. Realized I love literature. Thanks Dr Scanlan!!!

Yup, I read Crime and Punishment a few years ago, then War and Peace, Fathers and Sons and a bunch of Russian short stories. I was an English major at SHU and continued on for a Masters. I love reading everything.

Thank you Dan and JD!

Two additional suggestions for topics:

- Technology (Experiences and questions on all things technology-streaming vs cable, using AI for daily items, smart watches, etc.)

- Travel (Vacation and business questions…domestic or international.
