I'm old fashion. My likes are soft pop and rock.

Grew up in the 60s and 70s so my taste in music will be far different than many here.

I'm one who believes that somewhere, at any given moment, there is always great music being played live, written, recorded, produced etc.. I truly believe this.

That said, the fact that coldplay is arguably the biggest band in the world and the insufferably ubiquitous taylor swift is the biggest artist in the world leaves absolutely no doubt whatsoever that popular modern music is totally in the crapper.

I’m not a Coldplay fan but like some of their music. I couldn’t tell you on Taylor Swift song but I don’t begrudge her success.

It isn’t about how many tickets an artist sells, but how an individual is moved by the lyrics and music. Maybe it’s a song that is tied to ann event that stays with you. And we are all unique in that manner.

I don’t think music is in the crapper. In fact technology has created new ways to access and find those artists that touch you.

Play this game at the next dinner or wedding when you’re sitting at a table with friends or strangers.

Ask everyone to name the first and last concert you’ve been to.

My first: Led Zeppelin at MSG (1974)
My last: Steve Forbert at Godfrey Daniels (2026)

Fun game.

First: Giants Stadium - headliners - Steve Miller and The Beach Boys (warm ups - Pablo Cruise and Stanky Brown) - first major concert ever at Giants Stadium - 1978 - got the worst sunburn of my life with on the field seats - day concert and the field was covered with black tarps so we fried.
Last: Two weeks ago took the wife to see Little Big Town in a small venue in Boston

I like classic 50s and 60s rock, great soul singers like Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, levi Stubbs, any Temp. I like early punk. Love the Replacements. Think Buddy Holly and Kurt Cobain deaths left us without decades of great music, assuming Kurt could figure the life part out.

Was lucky to grow up in Monmouth County and be blessed with Bruce's music for most of my life. His music is with me every day. Beatles and Stones, British invasion. And Bruces pal Little Steven, love his suff, he grew up a few blocks from where I live.

Bob Dylan..........

I hate the term "yacht rock". Punk rock, now thats more like it

I was blessed to have one son become a musician and know some younger bands thru him. His HS band Away from it all / Gausian Surface, used to be on SOU. He was in Cant Swim, and they left a slew of great music. His pals have some great music too, Boston Manor is one I like, and he is managing a current tour featuring Microwave and Free Throw. You can catch them at Starland Ballroom in a week. I will be there, if you see some old bald guy with a red headed girl, say hello to my daughter in law and m.

Not sure if I treasure the music, or the memories it evokes more.

Old as f, but still love it, every day. Rockin in the free world

First - Asia in 1982

Last - Steven Wilson 2025

Progressive rock and Progressive metal are the genre's that I like the most and Steven Wilson is the current go to guy in both. A true musical genius.

If you like Yes, Pink Floyd, Rush etc you need to check out his solo work as well as his prior work with his band Porcupine Tree.

Have done the first/last concert game dozens of times and it’s a hoot.

Once at a dinner, one guy admitted Zamphir was his first.

And once, someone’s first was the same Led Zeppelin concert that was my first. What are the odds?

Yeah it's old. But does it get better than this? Especially the ending.

Hard to believe this man isn't in the Rock and Roll HOF
