And do you recognize these people are from different Countries with different cultures or nah? Or is what you are really saying it was settled by white people and anyone with non-white skin don't count towards "settling". Only white people that arrived before 1790 count?
Uhhhh. No. Lot of racists out today. Damn. I’m saying America was founded by Europeans with similar cultures and values.
How are yall so obtuse, early America was a European melting pot with a British core, operating alongside a large enslaved African population and displaced Native peoples. Calling it simply “a melting pot” without qualification overstates the inclusiveness and understates both the European character of the free society and the exclusions built into it. “A melting pot of Europeans” is closer to the historical reality of the settler population that founded the institutions of the United States.

I am going to be a contrarian. The focus needs to be 2028. What bills can Congress pass that have the broad approval of the American people that will be vetoed by Trump just because they came from a D Congress? Then use those bills as the platform for their races in 2028-Congressional and White House races. Look to the future, not the past. Go ahead and hold oversight hearings, but downplay impeachments (that will never get a Senate conviction). Americans want to see a productive not contentious Congress.

I was there just last weekend. I think that says English settlement

I agree with you, of course. I just didn't want to feed the troll.

She’s a quack. She’ll get destroyed in her reelection bid and I’d take 10:1 odds on it right now. This won’t happen two cycles in a row, the pubs will get the message and run someone with a clue in SC. I cannot speak to the rest of the country.
I will agree that she will have an uphill battle in 2032. It will be the midterm for the new Democratic administration and keeping SC blue will be very difficult even if Jesus Christ himself were the Dem candidate. But she will have 6 years and by that time, maybe a few more (Southern) states will elect Democrats to the Senate. Maybe she can pull a Jon Ossoff, though, and surprise us. I have never seen a Senator build relationships with constituents like Ossoff. Usually, that‘s a House thing but not a Senator. He has office time each week where constituents can come to his offices and chat with him.

I guess our disconnect is you considered the Country "settled" by 1790 (ish), and I agree the vast majority of these early settlers were white Europeans (although with different cultures and languages). I believe America was still being settled well past that time, even to modern times, which would include Asians, Pacific Islanders, Central and South Americans, Africans (not just enslaved people), Australians, Indians (not native Americans)...you get the idea. You seem to have this arbitrary cutoff of when America was "settled."

Republican policies bring about recession and perpetuate poverty. The southeast as a whole has been overwhelmingly Republican for decades, yet remains the poorest area of the country by a wide margin

South Carolina is a part of the poor southeast that has chronically voted Republican, so I agree that this blip of voting in a democratic senator will unfortunately be just that, a blip
My daughter in Paulding Co., Ga., sent me a map of votes in Ga counties last night (of the race for governor) along with the question: why do voters in poor, rural counties vote for the billionaire who says he cares about them? Maybe a lot of previous Trump voters asked themselves that question when they went to the polling booth yesterday.

SC is so poor that people are desperate to move here. OK doofus.
Well, yeah ... it's cheap. The digital age + post-covid rethinking have made remote employment opportunities more feasible, and since you don't need to be tethered to a place where opportunity and civilization exists, you can now move to Hillbillyistan and live high on the hog. I mean, that's been happening for decades, with manufacturing moving to the south because it's cheap. The south was a real backward hellhole before those northern migrants populated it - and those were the blue collar poors who kinda needed to follow those businesses, because they didn't have other employable skills to allow them to stay where they were. Now a slightly higher quality of migrant is in play, and voluntarily so. So then you start building up a population, businesses start coming there to support the population, it becomes more crowded and, therefore, more expensive (and blue), and then folks move away from there to some other place no one wanted to be. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

I don’t really care about other states. But this one was so predictable. Any decent candidate would have beat Andrews. Somehow pubs decided to run someone who’s big “accomplishment” was reducing turnover at the deaf and blind school. The quality of candidates on both sides is abysmal.
😂 you actually said "both sides"

Seems like America thought the quality of candidates was only abysmal on one side

History says, they probably will unless the constituents hold their feet to the fire
I totally get why a lot of people think this, but I think we've experienced an historical shift here. There's a new progressive spirit that is only going to get more influential in the Dem party, imo.

The Dem party also got young, like, overnight. The GOP will take longer than two years to recover from this.

Having said all that, there's still a lot of sh*t Dems like Schumer and Jeffries who will try their best to f*ck this all up.

I agree. The 18-30 demographic went bigly to dems in this election. In a historic way. Establishment dems are gonna be shaking in their boots considering ElSayed won, because they always claimed that populists like him can't win elections. That myth has now been dispelled. Its exciting time, we will see how it plays out.

Yep, that demographic shifting so much in two years is just incredible.

If the Dems can get out of this Iran war and lower the cost of living, it's going to be hard to stop them in 28.

American culture is distinct. You’re making no sense. When was it settled then? Pick a date, it’s not arbitrary, we became independent in 1776. Seems like those guys kinda settled it right? What are you even saying. How many Asians, Pacific Islanders, central and South American, Australians and Indians died combined in the revolutionary and civil wars? What are you even saying? It’s ridiculous.

I’m pulling for her, I’ve lived here my entire life. But I highly doubt she’s cutting my income taxes or cutting spending in general. Maybe I’m wrong.

It's a dynamic process, not static. That's why you're incapable of understanding.

They are so captured in woke bull **** that they can’t even recognize that Europeans had been here literally centuries and they settled this. They died for independence. They died to rid this land of slavery. These people are stupid asshoiles. They have to cling to some nonsensical melting pot term that probably none of them know the origin. The foundation of America is distinct. If you don’t believe me, travel anywhere else on the planet.

And as you have pointed out before, you pay over 50% in income taxes...

It's a dynamic process, built on a particular European-derived institutional and cultural foundation, one that has repeatedly absorbed new people while retaining key continuities. Both the change and the continuity are real. That's why you're incapable of understanding

Obviously. We need to worry about these 6 year seats giving a D president the ability to raise taxes and expand handouts in the next presidential term. Someone is going to have to pay for all the shlt they want.

This thread cracks me up. While MAGA’s are an odd bunch. The far left libtards on here think things are going to change. It’s comical. Gas prices will stay high, grocery prices will stay high, everything else will stay high. Inflation will continue to outpace pay increases. It’s funny that people think politicians care about everyday Americans.

Thank you. This is what I was trying to get across (unsuccessfully). Besides of course the Native Americans who had been here for thousands of years, America's first "settlers" were white Europeans, but people didn't stop moving here in 1790. In fact people freely moved here until the Immigration of Act of 1924, which required visas and included quotas. The transcontinental railroad (hope that "trans" text didn't trigger him) that was completed in 1869 was built by Chinese laborers. Tens of thousands of them. It wasn't until 1924 that the exclusions were put in place. Prior to that time, America was growing at a fast rate and people showed up.

I understand where he is coming from, and I'm really picking at semantics, but by not understanding the reality of what immigration to the US consisted of, or perhaps just ignoring it, doesn't change the facts.
