I'm not making any comment on who should win, who will win, who I voted for, or anything partisan. But I think we can all just get ready for the fact there will be a court challenge no matter which way the final count goes. It may be a while before we know who the real senator is. It's insane just how close this is.

Hyde-Smith is about 24000 votes less than the total amount of votes cast for Republicans while Colom has about 25500 more votes than the Democrats in the Congressional District races. Lots of people crossed the aisle to vote for Colom. I don't think that would've happened to Wicker if he was up for re-election.

I don’t know if it’s true or not, but I read that Mississippi is the only state without an automatic recount law

And if the independent was not in it she would’ve lost easily. I would not have guessed that.

Is there any news out there on all of the provisional ballots that someone talked about yesterday? Those ballots could very well decide the race.

It’s an irony that Cindy Hyde-Smith is billed as a cattle farmer considering she’s long been no-hat & no-cattle in the US Senate.

She needed to go. I wanted the GOP to get her out, and the party should have retired her but the Republicans shot themselves in the foot by running her again.

You cannot make these unforced errors in midterms. Even the parties of popular presidents lose seats…

CHS is not a great person, and was not a great candidate. And I say that as someone that is related to her (second cousin). Pretty much any other decent Republican other than her wins that race. Wicker wins going away, but she is someone that people will cross the aisle to vote against. Just one Devil's opinion.
So she’s related to the devil. I knew it!!**

No automatic recount and you can google to see when that became state policy.

There will be no court battles.

CHS will concede before the final votes are tallied.

As someone mentioned earlier the GOP made this bed and took a whole hell of a lot for granted.

Give credit where it's due.... Colom team put together such a masterful campaign the national Dems took note and backed him up - mostly through their a number of Senate campaign war chests. No other Dem Senator candidate in MS has gotten that kind of national support, probably ever.

It's all about the money and he found enough to compete and will more than likely win.

Did I read correctly that the margin right now is less than 100 votes?

Way to go, guys who sat home in protest! You showed them! And us.

Bud Light should make a Real American Heroes ad about you.

Russ Latino (Magnolia Tribune) is tweeting that Jackson & Covington counties both have about 1000 votes that have not been counted. CHS has been getting about 56% of the vote in both of those counties.

65 votes difference currently Colom 462,857 CHS 462,792 per Mississippi Today. They have added a few hundred total votes to the total since 9:00 AM.

De Soto County has quite a few affidavit paper ballots to count from the snafu yesterday so I suspect she may pick up some there because a lot of the people complaining were in pretty red voting precincts.

Race might be decided by dozens of votes and a third party candidate got 20,000 votes of his own. I’ve seen both sides mad at Pinkins.

I think Cindy is just a weak candidate and Colom pressed the right buttons and got just enough national support. The ad and him going to the Trump rally and talking to people in line seemed to be pretty effective for him.

She was a champion of agriculture so she got my support. There’s not many ag friendly people left in Congress in general.

And anybody who pretends she’s not in a cattle family is being disingenuous. She may not have had a career farming, but her husband sure has.

ETA this was a response to DCD, not sure how the devils name got up top (he’s a trickster)

I get some may not like CHS, but she did a ton for me. My brother died last year in Jan. Single dad, autistic son. No help. The state said my 36 yr old nephew, who is about on the level of a 10yr old, was fit to work and kicked him off SS. We fought the state for 14 months with no help. I emailed CHS and 2 days later, he was back on SS and got a check 12 days later for all the back pay. Say what you want about her, but it was truly watching government work how it’s supposed to work. She was there to help and went full in on it

You had a good deal of Republicans that stayed home. Probably between thinking she had it and just not liking her. This will probably be a wake up call, but none the less, she was an awful candidate.

I think the bigger indictment is that the independent candidate running against both of them got almost 20,000 votes. For a midterm Senate election in a very rural state, that’s an astounding number of 3rd party votes.

I think it’s fair to say that CHS is not very popular, when analyzing the already mentioned number of defections from R to D compared to other statewide elections, and then also this huge number of independent votes from folks who probably couldn’t stomach a full crossover but still couldn’t hold their nose and vote for CHS.

CHS is a horrible senator and a lame duck in my opinion and I think we could have a number of people better than here.

I do not think Colom is a bad fella at all. I think his work ethic is good......but as far as aligns w/ my beliefs, through party affiliation and backing, and political candidates that advertised for him (including what appears to be national beliefs/agenda).....I simply could not b/c I had no reason to believe he would be independent in thought.

Above stated, I also believe that on many occasions, our person of choice will not win, and we have a civic duty to support the person that occupies office, and that on may occasions, they will get "it" right, and when they don't, we have the freedom to speak out and voice our disagreement in a proper and polite way as a polite and civil society. WE must get back to that type of discourse.

I hope we see better moving forward

Credit where credit is due. Colom's "Pick Another Protein" ad hit hard. May have been the best ad of the entire 2026 election cycle.

That really is a good political ad. Still surprised dude's in the lead.

Good to hear. Any elected official who works hard at constituent services gets a round of applause from me. And the ones that don't should be ashamed of themselves.

I’m in DeSoto Co and this is the first time I’ve ever had to wait in line to vote. There were People holding up the lines because the were looking at something on there phones for each position available to vote on. And when they were seemingly done they doubled checked whatever text they had on there phones for each position available to. I may be wrong but I’m guessing religious leaders sent out the information and they turned out in my voting district like I’ve never seen before. And it’ll keep happening now since rezoning.

Probably should have just let him have that district court seat instead of throwing out some performative red meat about Soros and trans athletes. Looks like she may have to pick another protein.

I know for a fact that at least 1 of those 20,000 was because the voter couldn't stomach voting for either of the establishment candidates.

The crossover votes happened across the country. It’s more an indictment of what’s going on with Trump and the country more than anything.

She forgot to read the tea leaves and un-MAGA. Leaned hard on Trump including in person campaigning.

Clinton and his handlers understood this. It’s always the economy stupid. If you needlessly 17 with people’s money as a politician, they’re gonna 17 you back.
