Here in NEW. JERSEY. o_O , a BAG. BAN.o_O recently went into effect. While in Wegmans, I purchased a few reusable bags to haul my scones and coffees home. This is the bag:




Never? Always? And “we are stronger together”? Are we? Who’s we? What if “we” includes michigan athletic supporters or other losers?

I think Wegmans is being pushy here, and I don’t like the absolute tone. Also, I am struggling to reconcile their words with my “F*ck everyone” stance. This is a real struggle for me. The bag rubs me the wrong way (😞), but I love Wegmans’ bakery.

My kids think is such a great idea for the environment. They don’t think it’s a big deal that I have to drive around with empty grocery bags in the back of my car for the rest of my life or until I retire and move away.

People forget that the cost of living in NJ is one of the highest in the country. Sure public education from K through 12 is one of the best in the country, but this comes at a cost. A teacher in NJ will max out his or her steps after 9 years, this means they’re pulling in $115K for 10 months work. The average police officer who works a little OT can earn $150k to $190k a year. Unlike other government employees, an officer’s pension is calculated on a base salary and OT. They’re able to retire after 20 years with 50% pay and after 25 years 75% pay. This is why property taxes on a very modest 1800sqft bi-level can range from 14k-16k per year. With a more opulent 3200sqft home on a half acre lot in a nice area, expect your property taxes to tip the scale at $20k - $25k per year. Property taxes of homes in Colts Neck and Mantoloking would rival that of Beverly Hills and Bel Air.

Yes, Nit1300 is 100% correct, one of the best, if not the best in public education and average income. But that comes at a tremendous cost.

Not surprising. All that matters in our society anymore is virtue signaling. Nobody tackles the hard problems or spends time really thinking about the issues. Emotional responses to problems are all that matter. Actually solving problems is hard work and we have a lazy society that isn't capable of hard work. It is a lot easier to just carry a bag with a trite phrase on it and go back to playing candy crush on the iPhone.

How awful. For Christ's sake, the state sits on an ocean and bring in billions because of it. At least they did the smart thing and banned the damn plastic bags.

Spent a couple weeks in the UK and this is standard practice. I bought some bag but kept feckin forgetting to take them with me so had to buy more and more. I think I had about 10 bags by the time I left. I gave them to someone walking in the store.

Anyways...

I am sure it is all just a big misunderstanding.... :cool:

Actually, for some, this all may be a misunderstanding. I don’t give a crap about the BAG. BAN. o_O . We all knew it was coming in NEW. JERSEY. o_O . Whatever.

My issue is the strong message on the Wegmans reusable bag. I expressed the seriousness of this issue for me in the first post. Despite the bag, I still feel a strong urge to think about myself, at least a little.
