I love the man for what he did as a player but I think many of us realize he’s in over his head. His coaching ability fits a place like BYU because expectations are relatively low so when you are mid there, the fans love you.
I want it to be a nice clean break because he lives in UK basketball lore as a player but his seat is going to be on fire soon with these last 5 games.

The only way there is a chance is if he loses out. No program in the country would fire a guy after two years unless things were much worse on or off the court.

He's not getting fired in late February, but depending on what we do over the next month everything needs to be on the table after the season is over.

If Mitch was any good at all, he would be having private conversations with Bruce Pearl right now. No more hiring guys that don't have the resume. Pearl has 2 Final 4's and plays a style UK fans would kill for
He’s not coaching right now, so it wouldn't be sketchy to do.
How do you know he’s not?

Given Mitch's track record, I wouldn't use your money to bet on him having private conversations with BP. That would be totally out of character.
Someone thinks Mitch is going to pull Pope aside and interfere with his day. Lol.

Mitch has said over and over he does not get involved in the coaching and game themselves. Past financial things (which is all he cares about), he’s not pulling Mark aside to talk about anything. I just sometimes cannot understand I guess some just don’t pay attention but damn it’s been 23 years with the guy man.

He’s getting a 3rd year unless he does something unethical or realizes this isnt for him.
What’s probably going to happen is the money is going to dry up and he’ll be forced out. He’s probably after next season when he splutters medi says hot seat the rest of the people turn and he’s let go.

Another buyout coming. Amazing Mitch can hold a job here. It’s just incredible.

IF Mitch Barnhart is fired as well, then....

Fire Pope
Mitch will be gone by the time basketball season rolls around again next year. Confirmed again by Matt last night who knows what he is talking about on this kind of stuff. That’s why regardless of how year 2 ends, year 3 is a put up or shut up year for Pope. New ADs typically like to make sure they have their major programs running in the direction of their own vision. Seats always get a little hotter when a new AD comes on board. We all have heard that Marc Hill wanted Pope, but none of that will matter when he’s the main man in charge and there’s an opportunity to cut the cord and start anew should fans be in favor of that direction 14 months from now.

Dude's a complete embarrassment.
I’m not a Mitch guy but the guy always getting hate for going to church is just evil. Don’t understand why that of all things is worthy of criticism. Also, Mitch is actually, despite Morg and other people on here always saying terrible things about him, a quirky but good person. He’s not everyone’s cup of tea but absolutely doesn’t deserve the personal attacks he takes all the time. Don’t know why people can’t just say “he’s a bad AD” instead of that stuff.

Funny that some that act like they deserve UK success the most don’t deserve a dang thing, in reality. Seems to always work that way.

A few get off by making stuff up and acting like they know things. This board is their entire sense of self worth .

Time for Pope to go! Pope has to be the worse recruiter I’ve ever seen at a blue blood basketball school. Coaching at Kentucky with the NIL budget, and the resources, you should be able sleep walk and still get at least one elite player to commit lol wtf are we doing!

No disrespect to him and I don’t blame him for taking his dream job, but he is just not cut out for this pressure and expectations. He never had the resume to even have a job like this. MB was on that nostalgia drug after Scott Drew turned the down job. He didn’t fully commit in finding the right coach, if he was fully committed, he would have waited for Billy D and interviewed more qualified coaches. So, both MB and Pope need to go.

This is why you don't know what you're talking about. We have been invested for decades, following the ebbs and flows of multiple generations worth of heartache and celebration. We have supported this program financially, emotionally, and even spiritually being that Kentucky basketball oftentimes connects with our lives to a point where even those who came before us are often remembered through the beautiful moments that we spent with them watching Kentucky games.

You just showed that you do not understand the average Kentucky fan, which is not a surprise given what you post about the program.

I don't think Mitch should be attacked for his religious views, but if people do take shots it's probably because his choices for the Kentucky job were both men that he could relate to religiously in Scott Drew and Mark Pope. I think that some people may be critical because religion should not really be considered as a hiring component, and yet it seems like it was for Mitch. That's my best guess on why he gets criticism in that regard. So it's not so much that he practices his faith, but more that it seems like his religious outlook determined his hiring practices the last go round, determine his alcohol policies about a decade ago, and determined his lack of wanting to hire Calipari initially. I think that's at least the perception.
