To me it looks like we’ll finish:

Fielding: Top half of the SEC
Pitching: Top half of the SEC
Hitting: Bottom half of the SEC

We’ll go into the last weekend vs Mizzou needing a sweep against a terrible team to get to .500 in the league.

#2 in Tally coming up.

Fielding is good.
Many young pitchers who will be better as the year goes along.
From the first game, I felt that this team can hit.

We really know next to nothing about this team so far. We’ll learn a lot this weekend. I expect 14-17 SEC wins and a road regional. But we’ll see.

We had to change the rotation last weekend and we pitched 2 guys tonight w/ no previous innings before tonight and you're seeing top half of SEC? I don't share your optimism but hope you are correct

They were both position players and tonight was the perfect night to give them a few innings with two midweek games before SEC play starts. They ate up some innings to save some arms for the weekend.

It looks like we have velocity and location across the majority of the pitching staff. I realize we are currently top half in hitting and bottom half in pitching… it just doesn’t feel like that when I watch us play.

I’m glad some of you guys get to enjoy sports even if it is intramural. Can’t wait for September in Davis Wade!!
It’s ok. Baseball can be too complicated for some to comprehend exactly what’s happening. Really smart people tend to enjoy it more than others. Let us know if you need help with something and we will try to explain it in an easier way for you**

I am just the opposite.
I think we will be a top 6 OPS team
We’ll be a middle of the pack ERA team
Bottom half in errors.

Bottom half of the SEC in hitting? LOL

We're averaging 8 runs a game. More than 2 runs above what we averaged last year through the first 17 games

I get it… it feels like we’ve had some offensive success. I looked at the stats before I made the OP. We’re currently hitting .325 which is 6th in the SEC and 141 runs which is 7th.

And we’ve managed that against some weekend teams that I’m not sure would be competitive in MS Juco.

Top 6 in OPS will mean we stepped it up from where we performed pre-conf. Currently sitting at 8th.

And the 18 run game vs Southern Miss that has to be an anomaly. Schedule has been even weaker than usual this year.

Those are the same teams every other SEC team is playing. I think we finish top 6 in the SEC in a number of offensive categories.

This is one of the best lineups we’ve had

Yeah, that's not happening........Only the sheep actually believe that........The eye test tells me otherwise.........Just like that juggernaut offense tonight that scored 2 runs and had 4 hits against an 8-10 Nicholls State team.........

Well we pitched Bullpen guys 2 of which saw their first action of the season, for 9 innings tonight and only gave up 1 run. Of course, Northern Illinois scored 21 on them in one of their 3 games against them and La Tech beat them 19-0 in 7 innings this year.
They did stay within 10 of LSU and Tulane. I just think the Sun was in ours eyes with the early Start, not to mention the 15 mph gale blowing in off th gulf because Tim Bennett was too dumb to negotiate enough space to have home plate in the southwest corner like most southern stadiums!

The start of the season needs to be moved back three weeks. SEC play should start after the NCAA Tournament.

Correct. Last I checked, our SOS was sitting around 165, and only 3-4 SEC teams had played an easier one

Do some of yall just hope that we will suck for the sake of being correct?
No not at all. Just some of us don't get excited when we look like National Champs against 2-14 Queens, 7-8 Manhattan, and 2-14 Rice. Remember when Lunardi said we looked like a basketball national 2 seed and our fans believed it and were saying we were Top 5 material if we beat KY? Sit back and relax and see what happens before you start believing Kendall Rogers and the like saying we will host a Super

The fact that Hines is 7th in slugging compared to regular starters is where I think we may get better. Of course, I could easily see the rest of the team regress to the mean since we have played weak competition.
I guess I didn’t factor that even though we look like a lot better hitting team, so does everyone this year. I’ve seen a lot of football scores being put up out there in the rest of the country.

and the 17 and 13 runs against (7-8) Manhattan , 28 in the 3 game series against (2-14) Queens, and the 14 runs against 2-14 Rice. There are no more series against cupcakes. Statistics against those teams are totally useless unless you are seeing bad hitting, fielding or pitching from our team then you have issues.

Last night ended a run of 5 straight games scoring 9 or more runs.

Also, according to the pre game article we were on a run of 11 straight games scoring at least 5 runs. The longest such streak in 25 years of State baseball.

Hatahs gonna hate, hate, hate...🤣

I dunno, we haven’t really played anyone yet but our depth feels pretty impressive. We casually trotted out two position players who hadn’t pitched all year last night and they combined for only one run allowed in nearly 6 innings.

I don’t know that this team has the star power of other really good teams we’ve had, but the quantity of good options seems above average.

You’ll learn a ton these next few weeks. We open SEC play against three straight Top 12 teams, and 6 of those 9 games are on the road. If you come out of that stretch with 4 or 5 wins then you are really in good shape, IMO.

This advice is free. You get what you pay for. This has been my pattern over the last three years:

Set your expectations at the level of a mediocre big ten team’s likely season outcome and you will not be disappointed.

Baseball will look similar to basketball. We could be a good team but we are facing strong competition. The first 3 series, opponents are 46-3 and we play 2 series away.

Exactly right.

The records of a large number of SEC teams are kinda stunning at this point. We really, really need to find a way to get two this weekend...
