It just seems like there was way more excitement then versus this year's egg bowl. We need that swagger back. The only swagger we have had over the Croom era was his own. They may have been a waddle rather than a swagger.

But I sneezed one time at Thanksgiving Dinner and my mom laid a guilt trip from hades on me about dying from pneumonia if I go to the game. Anyways, I made a deal that if we win the egg bowl, I get to go to the postseason bowl game. All game my dad is saying to me "Aren't you glad you didn't go?" At the very end while watching my classmates rip down the goalposts, in true smartass fashion I say "I'm glad I didn't go to that." At least the Peach Bowl was a good show. Quite convenient for us all too, actually.

We were 8-2, and I think Ole Miss was 7-3 or something like that, so both teams were pretty good. And both teams had the natural contrast of the Ole Miss offense led by Deuce, Gunn, and Romaro vs the #1 rated MSU defense. We were both playing to go to a better bowl.

One of my memories about that game was being down 20-6 and telling the guy next to me- "We got em right where we want 'em." The next drive Madkin hits Donald Lee for a TD, and then all insanity broke loose.

That Egg Bowl was epic. It seemed like every play was big.

Also, I think I was the only one fooled by Ole Miss throwing the ball at the end of the game. I figured that they would take a knee and take their chances in OT because they had played in so many OT games, and we had never played in one ever. Cutcliffe didn't see it that way, though.

And one thing I have never understood to this day- I'm pretty sure it's illegal to intentionally kick a ball like Bean did. I wonder why more Ole Miss people don't ***** about that no call.

I also was scared on the kickoff of another Cal-Stanford type ending. Thankfully, we got Deuce out of bounds.

I forgot about that.

But still, we had not won one and Ole Miss had been and won at least a couple of OT games.

It still would have been to their advantage to go to OT, in my opinion.

All of the OM friends I know said that they were tired of Cut having to guts but with 27 seconds to go there was not much OM could have done. They all said you get what you ask for.

No way I would have let my mom tell me I wasn't goin to the freakin Egg Bowl if I was in college. In fact, my mom probably would have called me a ***** herself for not going.

...we were watching the game at my aunt's in West Point, I'm 13 years old (I think my parents had given our tickets to my brother and cousins) and my dad gets pissed cause we're losing. So we decide to drive back to our farm in Noxubee County. Goin down highway 388, I remember sayin "we're gonna intercept it", then it happened. My dad whips into the driveway of our place, where two of the biggest 17ing deer I've ever seen proceeded to run across the road. My dad says to my mom, "let's grab some more beer, we're headed back to Starkville." We made it back just in time to catch the Ole Miss bus coming out and give them hell with the rest of the State fans.

My baby brother, the Ole Miss fan, went to that game with us. Although he's not much of a trash talker, he had that smirk on his face all game, like "I am really going to enjoy the ride home with these losers". Just wanted to slap it off. Thinking about that long drive, my husband suggested we leave about mid-way through the 3rd quarter, but my brother insisted we stay. It was the best idea the little **** has ever had!!

It happened right in front of me and I remember it like it was yesterday. I was thinking that there was no way that Cutcliffe would throw the ball and we were headed to overtime, which I wasn't feeling too good about. After the INT I just knew that Westerfield was gonna make the FG (sounds strange now to have that much faith in a kicker.)

and in the stress of the moment I don't think he could think fast enough to do it on purpose. But anyway, the refs saw it our way

when we tied the game and Ole Miss got the ball back my brother was asking what Ole Miss would do. My exact words were, "they should take a knee and go to overtime. They are the most experienced team in the nation in playing overtime. If Cutcliffe tries to throw a long pass against the best secondary in the nation then he is an idiot!" I still can't believe he tried that. With the field position and the amount of time left there was really nothing to gain and everything to lose. Do you really think you are going to hit two long bombs against us and then get the field goal unit on? Seems like Ole Miss coaches do a lot of stupid things in the Egg Bowl (4th and 1).

spend the next two years wondering how Madkin could suck so bad? I'm pretty sure I'd think of him as a qb god if I he played for us after TTM, Henig, etc, but at the time, it scared the crap out of me every time he dropped back. Anybody have his stats handy? How 17ing stupid was I to actually look forward to our next qb? If I ever have this thought about the TTM I guarantee you I will have sworn off football forever.

but I swear that I saw somewhere where Bean admitted to trying to kick the ball to Clinton.

It would have been tough to call that in that situation though.

Parents were going to foot the whole bill for me. If they didn't agree to that, my car was already packed up for the trip back up.Oh well, sometimes you bargain and it comes out not so hot. Needless to say, it's probably a good thing I didn't go to that one as every Egg Bowl I've gone to has been a giant suck-fest for us.

I would like to know how many people left after Pig's fumbled punt at the 3 minute mark.

I was so disgusted by it. I got up to leave. Because so many people were leaving, it took a while to get to the portal and out. As I got to the portal, OM was in 3rd down. So, I found an empty seat and waited to see if we hold them and get the ball back. We did and the rest is history. I was that close to not witnessing it. So, glad I cooled down and had the sense to ride it out.

I remember being at a party with an apartment full of UM friends in for the game and everybody would just stop what they were doing and watch that interception every time it came on. It was brutal for them, awesome for us. I would have had to leave if I were somewhere watching the 1997 TT 2-point conversion over and over.
