which is only one million more than US-Mexico Gold Cup final.

All Star Game was on a network. US-Mexico was on Fox Soccer Channel.

How many people even get fox soccer at home? I'm certain I don't. Fair enough people could be watching @ bars, etc, but I find these numbers hard to believe.

It was also on Univision. Something like 9,100,000 were watching on Univision, and about 900,000 were watching on FSC.

But seriously, I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with soccer being popular. Lots of people on the field, talented athletes, very few stoppages in play, and that underlying ambient noise that makes it great for naps.

It seems impossible to me. And I didn't watch the All-Star game but for like 5 minutes. Do I count as one of the 11 million?

There are actual set top boxes that people can volunteer to use that helpNielsenget ratings. Once you opt in to use the box, they send data back to Nielsen. They might only have 50,000 boxes (no clue the actual number), but from there they infer how many people are watching something by simple multiplication.

They used the set top boxes all the way back in the 80s. Nowadays, they could just strike agreements with the providers to get that data directly from a sampling of cable/satellite boxes.

I watched the whole game. I watch it every year. I don't watch the Pro Bowl or NBA All-Star game. Now that the winner gets home field during the world series it makes the game even more enjoyable. I love baseball though and I know who everyone is on both the teams. If you're just a casual fan I can understand why it's boring to you.

for filling out one of their surveys, which took all of about 2 minutes. 2 bucks was packaged with the first survey, so I figured what the hell, they gave me 2 bucks I'll help um out.

Now that I think about it it might have been 20 bucks.. but that seems like way to much.

I think that is because the All-Star game really doesn't mean too much to most people, whereas the soccer game gives people a sense of national pride, especially because we know how much it means to other countries. I think if baseball had something similar where the best from the US played in a tournament against foreign countries, it would be the same (for instance, our basketball team in the Olympics). One major problem with that is, though, that most of our best baseball players are from foreign countries already.
