Coach Mack finds himself with players who can't make wide open 3's by players he recruited to do just that.
He has multiple experienced players who are playing like they just started playing basketball.
He has three point guards who turn the ball over way too much.
And he has a roster of me first players who appear to be more concerned about their stats than the team.
Malik and Matt are the only guys playing to their ability.
Mack has some decisions to make.

This "let's play fast" thing seems really contrived. Not able to shoot, we just give the opposition more possessions and opportunities to score. I am willing to let the cake bake but it just sounds gimmicky and silly, it isn't who Mack is.
I agree. This play fast style isn't Mack and it's showing big time right now.
How can this be explained? Why is this happening?

The program is not near the level fans are used to seeing it at. There is no elite player on the roster. Dark cloud over program. Team stitched together.
The starting point guard would be the 10th man on a vintage UofL team. Half the guys wouldn't be on the team. That's not to say I personally don't appreciate them. I do. They just aren't very good.
All true. We have fallen so very, very far. As I stated in another text, many forget Harrell came off the bench in 2013. Let that sink in for a second. I cannot name ANYONE on this current team that would have seen the floor for that team (maybe Cross, Pitino would have loved his effort).
time to throw in the towel on the team? we have some harsh violations coming our way. people are leaving ahead of time.
For me it's not throwing in the towel it's just understanding where they are.
We will find out in a few weeks if the mentality changes. Lots of head dropping but ultimately you need alphas to handle adversity most the time. I'm not upset because I don't think they are under achieving

Man, if things don't improve in a hurry I feel like I'll be at that point. I know some are there already.
It's strange because we all just felt good after the road win at NC State. Like the wins in the Bahamas, the team showed some grit at crunch time and won the games.
Then they look like **** at home against a average DePaul team. We didn't even score 60 points. That's not the Virginia defense we faced.
It just doesn't make sense all those missed open 3's. DePaul was letting us shoot the 3. That's what they gave us so we took over 30. Had we made a bunch DePaul would have closed out more, opening the lane for drives.
For some damn reason this group shoots better on the road than at the Yum center.

I did feel that, personally yeah the wins were needed/appreciated.
But NC St still down 2 key players coming off quad OT and the fashion in which the big halftime lead evaporated for the Cards didn't give me much "faith" in the team for being where we'd prefer it be.
The athletic program lost it's AD and that is a residual impact trickled down, so that is a major situation the players/staff yet again must deal with.
The roster remains void of top shelf talent and that was not going to change. JMO.
This team is one incredible inbounds pass and shot away from losing 3 in a row. While I was happy with the NC State win, the Cards didn't look good in that game for long stretches either.

The team just has too many pieces that aren’t fitting together right now. How do you bring Gabe off the bench one game and then nothing tonight. Rose and Curry get minutes but not much before that. Cross is now starting which I think is an improvement but Withers is not contributing anything off the bench. Who is the PG? West, Ellis, Faulkner? These guys don’t know their roles… yet.
If Gabe gets minutes we really stink. He is not an ACC level player, period. He gives great effort, etc but he is what he is. He’d be better off @ Bellarmine.
I told myself i would just enjoy the season . I 'm really trying to keep things in perspective . The talent is decent for what he can get with all the recruiting issues which are real. I been on board with Mack from day one. I still feel he is and was the best option at the time. To just keep the ship on course. But now i'm starting too have some doubts .
Then when i look at other teams so far this season especially the ones with the elite talent nobody is all world beaters . Alot of teams are taking losses just as we are and having games the exact same way bad shooting and players just not living up to their potential. So i m not going to overreact at this point. Something tells me this team is either going to get it or completely tank. And if they tank i will be thinking differently about Mack. I'm giving this team till January after that then i will officially call it.

Go back and watch the game where he played. There are only 2 big men that understands the pick and roll, Malik and Gabe. Is he our most athletic guy, no but I do think he grasps how to run plays.
