I can already hear the groans about playing at South Alabama. I like this away game. I need everyone to stay with me for 1 second. Mobile is a close game for most of the base to travel to. Mobile has a ton of really good places to eat, especially if you like seafood. Dauphin Street is a very underrated time. It's comparable o Beale Street in Memphis. It's also close enough to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach that families could make this a weekend getaway.

Agreed, I like it too. Easy win plus the Coast fans will love the short trip. I wish we'd sign a 20 year alternating deal with USA.

Doesn't matter. That USA game is being moved to Jackson**

It had legs for a little while.

I'm planning my vacation to orange beach already. Will have a 4 year old & 1 year old --- no worries about getting kids out of school. Stay in Mobile on Saturday, then head down to the coast for a few days. Should work perfect if weather cooperates.

No worse than UAB. Good deal for us hattiesburgians
This.

USA's stadium is just as big of a dump but appropriately sized and it's in a location that would attract MSU fans. MSU isn't always going to have 4 at home OOC games. I realize this so I don't mind throwing our friends to the southeast a bone (although it benefits us just as much or more). I'd rather play there than Troy (good team, too far away for MSU fans to flock to). I'd prefer to play @ Tulane EVERY YEAR but hey... I'll take Mobile.

I realize that. A lot of work was done to see if it was possible to do in jackson. Once that was done and it was a green light, usa had to be contacted. They were and shot down the idea in 15 seconds.

Who would want a tailgate?

Quick Poll: If I could nail down a location to set a few up, this would be an ideal place for me to do an away game tailgate. Would anyone buy a tailgate package if I took The Tailgate Co. on the road for this game in 2014?

They werent offered anything. They werent interested at all.

And it is how business works. You cant offer someone something and not know if it is possible. Well, I guess you can but you wont be in business very long.

That's how my business works

I always ask customers if something is feasible before doing a lot of work on it. Also for price qualification.

What are you selling them, tupper ware? Sure, ask for a price then.

This is a little bit bigger deal. These things start with an idea. It's not something strictly tied to South Alabama. I applaud them for actually DOING something and not just talking about it. They got the plan together, and USA said no. So what? They could still approach countless other schools about it.

Yeah, I'm kind of excited about it. Great proximity for me and lots of friends in Mobile.

My wife is a USA grad, so we go to four or five games a year. Ladd-Peebles is a dump, but it's a dump that sells beer -- and at reasonable prices. We have friends that tailgate, and it's a decent atmosphere outside. They're all Bama or Auburn fans, so they already had experience at the whole deal. There is overnight tailgating available, but I don't know what they do to accommodate visitors. The stadium tailgate area is the only area that's available, I'm sure. The neighborhood is not the greatest, but we pay to park in the neighborhood yards and have only felt the danger one time at night. I'd get out of dodge when the sun goes down if you park outside the stadium. The stadium parking requires a pass.

If we stay overnight, we stay at the Admiral Semmes downtown, about a block from Dauphin Street. It's an older hotel that's been sold a couple times recently, and it feels like the quality is slipping. But from there, it's not a bad cab ride to the stadium if you have a group. Make sure you have the cab company's phone number after the game, because there's no set place to get in line for cabs after.

It'll be interesting to see if they take the tarps off the endzone seating to maximize profits. They played Troy last year and there were a ton of fans down for that game.

Ladd Stadium was a dump when I saw my last Sr bowl there in 1979. Cant imagine it today. Of course Bryant Denny was a dump too that same year when I saw the Dogs play there and they seem to have rectified that problem since then.

Mobile has a ton of MSU fans in the area, and should be a virtual home game for us if you ask me. I would go, but I'm apprehensive about that part of town as well. Mobile has some good eats and the beach is just a couple hours away depending on traffic.

Personally, I like Mobile and that entire area. It's closer to where I live (Pine Belt), and lots of people will be staying on the beach.

I'm concerned about the image this away game (and others) will have on MSU. What other SEC team has played as many Sun Belt/WAC/CUSA schools as we have on the road? Troy, UAB, MTSU, L-Tech, Memphis, and soon to be USM and USA.

I never mind playing Tulane in New Orleans and I know Ole Miss has also played at Memphis recently, but to an outsider it can't look good that we are playing at these other cupcake schools almost every year.

Again, I personally don't mind going to these destinations for a weekend to see us beat the brains out of somebody, but I'm concerned about our image. We can afford not to be doing this. Starkville needs (and would love) the business another home game would bring.

If we had to have one OOC conference game every year, I'd like to alternate with Tulane and USA. Play Tulane the year we have LSU at home, USA the year LSU is in Baton Rouge. Good (NO) and decent (Mobile) road trips for fans, good places to recruit from, and gives South MS fans at least two games a year that are easy drives.

I went to the GMAC bowl (USM vs Ohio) a few years back and we parked in someones yard like you mentioned. The neighborhood looks rough but we had no issues. As long as you come and go with game traffic, you should be fine. I wouldn't hang out after the game and be the last person leaving the stadium though. The police also are everywhere down there keeping it safe. Im sure they keep these events pretty safe considering they want the future tourism.

don't like it at all. makes us look like a laughingstock going to play an away OOC game at a school that just became FBS.

As long as we're winning, I don't really care where our away games are played. I think playing C-USA and Sun Belt teams at their place isn't such a bad deal though because they are still in area. It gives us exposure when we come to their town, and most of the time gives State fans in the area a chance to go watch a game closer to home. Now if we are traveling to say..... Western Michigan to play a game, that's a different story entirely, because that's way out of our neck of the woods to a much smaller program. A trip to Mobile is about an hour closer than Starkville for me btw.

NC State plays in Mobile in 2015. They will likely get 1 big BCS school a year in Mobile. Your argument isn't realistic

Why do you care so much about what people think? It's about what's beneficial to MSU.

We already play 7 home games. Every now and then, we may only get 6, but that's not that bad. The money we save by not having to pay Louisiana Tech or similar to come here is worth it. The benefits outweigh the costs of playing these games.

Now, I agree we shouldn't be playing Troy/La. Tech/etc. on the road. But only because we have a higher probability to get beat.

So, you're wrong that we can afford not to be doing this, or we wouldn't be doing it. Greg Byrne said as much. Get correct info, THEN ***** about it. You're clearly off on this.
