As has been said burning a year of Desmond's eligibility just doesn't make sense at this point. Davis is a solid round of 12 guy. We don't need his points. He obviously needed time to get his sea legs and still has 3 additional weeks. It's not like he lost to stiffs.
Perhaps the idea behind the wrestle off is not based on Davis performances, but on Desmonds performances?
Seriously?? Cael has already said that Desmond will not be burning his redshirt. I was just trying to explain the logic as to why.

Pyles is wrong. To make the assumption Pyles has a point is to also make the assumption Pyles' knowledge of the Davis v Desmond situation is comparable to Cael's. It is assuming Pyles has first hand knowledge of room competitions, whether there has been a wrestle off or two and that Pyles has an equivalent of Cael's data interpretation.
Pyles doesn't know anything more than most on this board, and he has no idea what Cael's plan is.
Pyles has an opinion based on watching a few matches. To think he has an opinion equal to Cael's, is way more than a little wrong.
How many times does Cael have to say Desmond is redshirting this year?

Desmond is getting a lot of hype at 141, from some, based off a single OT victory against a guy who isn't even top-30 by some of the rankings. Hopefully Braeden gets matched with Ragusin in a few weeks. When he bonuses him, maybe this will be put to rest.
No disrespect to Desmond, the young man has a bright future.
Davis just needs to get his confidence/swagger back. Let’s give him some confidence and he will be fine. Young man has been a Champion all his wrestling life including being a 4 time State Champ from Michigan. He’s going to surprise at the Big Ten Tournament in the BJC.
Remember Ono probably only has 2 seasons. He’ll most likely be 133. I’m assuming Marcus grows into 141 next year. I’m just excited about the Big Ten Tournament and Nationals right now. The intensity in the arenas are going to be Insane. Absolute Great time watching them live.
If only Dave Evans had stayed and been willing to suck down to 141 one last time we might not be having this debate.

Yeah I don't buy there's a wrestle off at this point we are not iowa. I think Iowa's biggest issue is nobody knows who is wrestling when except for a few weights. That does nothing to help the team concept. I'm not sure when wrestle offs take place or how late in the year they go. I know cassar and shak went pretty late one year but the guy who cael thought would help the team points wise got the spot
Maybe already mentioned on here, but I believe Indiana 133 is ranked just above Ragasin. Scooter beat him 24 - 10. Im a big fan of Nate, but I think this might be the closest comparison of opponents.
Davis is pretty good but like I said before he is off balance a lot and usually has one bad move that will cost him!
Kueter said he was 100% back to full strength back in September. That’s all I have to go by. Brands (wisely) sat him for National Duals but besides that, I believe he has only missed one dual (Utah Valley on 12/12). In my opinion his “injury” is largely between his ears. He’s a good HWT who managed to beat both Amos and Hopke this season. He’s just not living up to the hype that came with his high school accolades. In fairness, going back to last season, Cole might be the only guy he lost to who he was supposed to beat. As we’ve seen, Cole continues to improve.
He does have a RS available. Might be think sitting out and looking at 149 when SVN finishes up next year.
The only benefit I see to burning Desmond's shirt is you then get the opportunity to shirt him next year when 141 is over crowded. Not a terrible strategy all things considered, especially if Ono is a 141 rather than a 133. I lean Ono goes 133, and Markus shirts, and Desmond wins the 141 slot outright.
In all likelihood Desmond isn't ready from a weight optimization pov, he gets a terrible seed at Nationals (maybe) and gets little to no points. Could he be a fringe AA against a gauntlet? Maybe, the talent is there but the timing and other factors are so against him
Despite laying a giant egg against Mendez, Braden remains a likely AA if he doesn't do something stupid at the wrong time in the blood round or above. Simplly stated, Braden is not a top 4 guy, he is still working into peak shape, and Mendez is that good. Jesse could snatch a Hodge away from Mitch if Mitch spends far too much time riding rather than racking up points. That tactic absolutely gave away a tech last match.

I believe mendez has 2 regular decisions already this yr. And will likely have 1 or 2 more at nationals. Unless something crazy happens to mitch he may have 1 regular decision at bgtens and/ or nationals. Of course a ref could decide that as well.
I agree. Maybe he has been watching too many sports talking heads. So now he seems to have gone to an imitation drone on mode, all crazy-eyed with alternating repeated statements of the obvious and odd hot takes.
It looks crazy, because he is literally talking to himself while pretending he is talking to someone, even as he monopolizes the conversation.
It's a cumulative thing, but I'm seeing so much negativity around Davis online and at the matches lately, which I just don't get. In two years without a redshirt, Scooter has been a B1G Champ and an All-American. I believe he we will AA again this year.
