15 Colorado players enter portal after spring game, which got me thinking...

if putting your name in the portal is a negotiation ploy to get more NIL money. Some of the 15 are really good players including a top WR that had a great spring game. WHat is happening their is a great pilot project on what is to come for the great sport formerly known as college football.

Sold out spring game for the first time ever, tons of excitement - but 41 total (and 17 since their spring game on Saturday) players in the portal? We offered one of them (standout WR). Is this Sanders ‘cleaning house’ or players not wanting to play for him? I think it’s the latter - Sanders isn’t cut out for big boy ball and he’ll cut and run when that becomes obvious….players see he’s about one thing - himself.

Remember that first meeting with the team when Deion got hired? The one about his luggage? He basically said half of you aren't going to be here when the season starts.

What are the beat writers saying? Are these the better kids moving on (some have said the WR we offered used this as an audition for other teams), or the 3s and 4s being shown the door?

The roster certainly needed an overhaul, but this is Sparty on Steroids.

My friend lives in Table Mesa, press asked Deion about the transfers. While seemingly shocked by it, he basically said Fugk them then. What A turd of a coach .🤦‍♂️

Not sure of the exact count, and where they stand at the moment wrt the 85 limit:
But Colorado brought in a "regular" recruiting class of around 20 - and have already added around 30 more via the portal for 2023.

Obviously, well over 1/2 of their prior roster had to go.

It is what it is - a clown show. But maybe not all that different from the "new abnormal"

He brought in at least 3 transfer wide receivers and told existing players to hit the portal. The standout WR took his advice and entered the portal. Can’t blame him.

I always thought it was funny that he said one of the things he wanted to do was bring HBCUs back to prominence in the college football landscape. Then he proceeds to move to FBS when he gets a chance.

He’s a charlatan with a monster ego. If he doesn’t put some serious game changers in the NFL kids are gonna start to see through his game.

Read they’re at 73 scholarship players.

Its either going to be a raging success or a train off the cliff. This first year will be a "pass". But he's going to bring eyeballs to CU.

This is like a construction project - the first step in construction is destruction. (ask @step.eng69 ). The program will have to destruct for a while before it can construct. He is really just trying to get through this season and then start focussing on next year's recruiting class to start to construct.

I guess Colorado isn’t HB. 🤔

Sandards needs about 5 wins this seasom then 7 next season to justify the financial contract with Colorado.
"Needs to win 5"?

Barring other teams forfeiting, he (or any other coach) ain't likely to win 5 at Colorado in 2023 (and I am sure no reasonable person there expects him to).
Their team would have probably been mildly competitive in FCS football last year. Seriously. (Mildly COMPETITIVE - not a winner - even at that level)
They won one game last year (an overtime affair against the Bay Area Fightin' Barbours) - in overtime.
They lost their other 11 - and gave up 50 points per game (with a MINIMUM of 38 allowed), while scoring 15 points per game (scoring more than 21 points all of one time). So, average score: 50-15. Ouch!

Two players are 4* including the WR we offered; he was the star of the spring game and had about 170 yards receiving and 3 TDs IIRC.

True. But, keep in mind, he was playing against a Colorado Defense :)

JK, mostly. The kid has enough explosiveness that he would merit a look from PSU in the portal (though I don't think - aside from having more playing time - that he is head and shoulders above any of the half-dozen or so similar "prospects" already on the PSU WR depth chart. Of course, until a couple of those kids sort themselves out, every new body with potential should be welcomed)

My guess is that once he gets some success (e.g. winning record, bowl game within 2 or 3 seasons), at CU and backs up at least some of his bravado, he will be snatched up by a bigger fish in a bigger pond, like the ACC or SEC. I think he can get to a winning record in a depleted PAC12 or the new Big 12 relatively quickly.
The real test of his coaching growth and abilities will be when (not if) he is in the SEC, or even the ACC. The ACC may want him to help with their TV deal - behind the scenes bargaining and re-negotiation of that bad contract could be helped with a commodity like Deion as part of the weekly package.

Natural fit feels like Miami or FSU.

It’s now up to 20 players from Colorado in the transfer portal since Saturday.

Starting next year Deon is going to have to really show serious loyalty to his players. Otherwise, he’ll never get over the rep of throwing his players under the bus or dumping them the minute they are no longer useful to him. It will be used against him on the recruiting trail by other teams.

I don’t want to wish the players ill-will at all, but I really don’t like the HC and wouldn’t lose sleep if he didn’t have any success.

I hope he fails, and spectacularly so. Cumulatively CU has now had over 50 enter the portal. He's down to 16 scholarship players from prior seasons. Basically he kicked out the whole team. He's been transparent since day one that he would. What does that say about him as a coach? He has no confidence in his ability to coach up existing players, he's just going to cut them all. Tells me he's a lousy coach.

There are rumors he's actively hindering players from finding new schools, and that he's forcing them into the portal instead of letting them just leave the team but stay at CU, in which case they'd still have a guaranteed 4 year scholarship. All of this attrition in late spring also hinders these kids from finding a new home, many are going to lose out on a high value D1 scholarship and will end up in FCS or something.

I can't imagine what parents of recruits would think watching this fiasco. I'd never send my kid to play for this egomaniac. Deion either forgot that he has to recruit beyond this one season and will be in living rooms recruiting moms and dads, or his selfishness means he simply doesn't care. Probably the latter. If he has success doing this it could set dangerous precedent for CFB so I'm actively rooting against him and I feel bad for the former players at CU.

Completely agree with everything you wrote... there might not be a situation/person that represents the exact opposite of what Joe (and many others) stood/stand for. Like someone wrote above "you hire a clown, expect a circus"... I so love that quote
