yeah its one of those "integrity of the game" and "no taunting" kind of thing

but in the context, you cannot expect Mac to do anything but that in that moment

MSU fans had the benefit of knowing Mac's struggles and not getting drafted and watching him play over the years

the ump just saw a jacked up kid going crazy

Anybody else notice the home plate ump appeared to be giving Plumlee a ration of **** after the 3rd out in the bottom of the 6th? The ground-out to Plumlee. Looked like maybe Plum was barking a little at the Stanford bench after the play and blue didn't appreciate it. Speculation, of course, but nothing Plum did seemed to warrant getting yelled at by blue.

My wife noticed as well and said, "What was that all about?"

Touchy crew.

Yeah.. 5 weeks ago he probably thought his season was over when a doctor floated the idea of putting a screw in his foot. Couple that with the draft disappointment, final AB at The Dude and the crowd chanting your name. Nothing was directed at the Stanford dugout...

If I hit that bomb in that moment... I probably would have moon walked around the bases while playing air guitar with my bat and used it like a shotgun when I crossed home and pretend to shoot down that missile I just launched.

Anyone who doesn’t like it or understand the reason why he acted like that needs to start watching curling or some **** like that. I was pumping my arms and yelling in the hotel in Nashville when it happened and I believe that almost every person on this board did the say.

What the ump did did piss me off when it happened and it is still inexcusable the way he did it but I am over it today and trying see what I can get for some slightly used prosthetics on Craigslist today.

I agree on the reaction if the reverse happened but considering these things below, i understand it.

He was in a slump
He didn’t get drafted
Last at bat at the dude
And man getting caught up in that moment is ok. The dude was rockin

Saw the full clip.

The bat flip was no where near the catcher, but it seems both the home plate and First Base Ump was giving Mac the business.

17 'em both.

Home plate did a good job when Mac hit the HR. He told the catcher to get to the mound and showed him the way there. He did not want anything to happen when Mac hit home plate. One little thing said between Mac and the catcher and all of a sudden the whole thing blows up. So, tip of the cap to the HP blue. The first base ump was trying to move Mac along. He did say something but Mac paid no attention. Mac was in another world.

I like the plate hump telling him to Go Go Go... ****, man.. it was so loud right then you couldn't hear a dump truck driving through a nitroglycerin plant. Zero chance Mac registered anything that tool shed was saying.

The bat flip/toss/missile was a big "17 U" to every MLB scout and organization who passed on him with their hundreds of picks each. He has been a clutch hitter for us as well as a strong fielder. U can't tell me that wasn't worth at least a late selection in the draft. I'm so glad his last at bat at DNF was that one. Thanks Mac!

I don't have a problem with Mac flipping the bat considering the moment.

I have a problem with the Umpire over reacting, but I don't have the problem with the Ump saying Mac should move along.

Both were excessive but explainable. Bat flips are always considered a taunting gesture. Mac's bat flip was a straight throw of the bat.

Lemonis even personally apologized right after it happened.

There's nothing wrong with criticizing both the ump and Mac in this situation. Mac got very emotional and it's okay to say he didn't handle it perfectly, but that's what happens in big moments like that. It happens. It's part of the game.

I agree here and your above posts TheStateU. Emotions in a time like that can easily get the best of you. I believe that it says more about character when a player acts like he's dropped a bomb before by controlling those excessive celebrations at that particular time. Had I been the umpire, I likely would have encouraged him around the bases as well. That was a Big moment for sure, but not one that warranted quite that level of celebration. I'm amazed at the number of people who have no clue of baseball's "unwritten rules."

Also, I watch a lot of the action through binoculars. I noticed on Mac's first at bat where he struck out that he slung his bat and helmet down at home plate. It was then that the HP ump acted pissed and wrote something down in his notebook and the Stanford coach came out afterwards and asked something about it. I assumed he gave Mac some type of warning?

Unpopular Hot Take Alert: The celebration was excessive and over the top. It wasn't a game-winner or even close. It was a HR in a game we were well in control of. In that scenario, you give a fist pump or two and then get on with rounding the bases. Also, he didn't "flip" the bat. He downright threw it.

If it had been an opposing player, everyone on this board would have been bitching about lack of class and "act like you've been there before."

Also, in case you can't figure out, I'm old and get off my lawn.

I didn't see it realtime because I had to be up this morning at 4:30 ... but from the video I didn't see anything so terrible about what the ump did, nor did I see anything terrible about what Mac did. He was just celebrating the end of his MSU career at the Dude in a positive manner. Somebody said the ump was red-faced ... how could you tell?

Btw...Aaron Fitt thinks the Ump is full of ****.

[FONT="]I saw this too. Get a clue, blue. Are you serious? An emotional moment for a senior interacting with his home fans after homering in his last AB… and the umpire’s gonna bark at him? There was no bad sportsmanship there. That’s pathetic, ump. https://t.co/f6ZKew6QGP— Aaron Fitt (@aaronfitt) June 10, 2019

Pretty unprofessional of him to get involved in social media commenting on the situation at all. Should be grounds for at least a warning from whoever oversees umpires, if not a suspension.

Link

Edit: For what it's worth, I do not recommend making his online life a living hell. Just let it go.

He looks like a prick, and he’s bitching about having to umpire. Acting all cocky with his fantastic friends about the HR too. These retards are why I side with kids more and more these days over crusty 50-60 year old angry bastards.

Good news is he won’t be in Omaha. Google him, he has a history. He was the ****** ump behind the plate on Saturday. Aaron Fitt hates him.

Frank Sylvester. "National Account Executive" for DrPepperSnapple out of Philly. Does not appear to realize he was wrong and the vast majority of people who know what happened think he's a dick.

Guy has no business being an ump, as far as I'm concerned. Seems pretty proud of himself RE: this episode.

Nope. Ump's name is Frank Sylvester. Seems pretty proud of himself, confirming on his facebook that he, "doesn't like guys that pimp HR's" and calling Mac's celebration a, "weak move".

For anybody who cares, he's a national account exec (salesman) for Dr. Pepper Snapple Group out of Philly, PA.

And OF COURSE his authoritarian, boot-licking, fun police fascist buddies think he's just awesome. Good riddance to this Jersey Shore attention ***** and his hula-hoop sized strike zone when we're batting.
(and to echo what others have been implying, we should take our cues from Mac and completely forget this valiant defender of the sacred unwritten rules is even there)

Great post. I wouldn’t change a damn thing about that at-bat. It was pure, meaningful, and bitter sweet. Perfect....except for that ump.

Anyone that is telling people(or the internet) the day after a game was played that he was that ump has no business umpiring a little league game. Get that POS away from games that matter.

Do what? I didn't dig for info or "out" him. He's on his facebook page more or less bragging about getting on Mac's ***. That's where I got all the info...just reading that jackass's public post on his facebook page and looking at his profile there. That's not "doxing".

If he's gonna publicly post about Mac, and say the **** he did, then he is fair game for the same.

Not just telling people he was the ump, but responding to another poster, confirming he, "doesn't like players who pimp their HR's", and that what Mac did was a, "weak move". Note that he acknowledged he doesn't like the players who do it...not just the play it happened on. To me the guy comes across as a self-important, hot-headed jackass who seems to be enjoying his 15 minutes of fame over this.

Screw him.

The first game of the SR was one of the worst strike zones I've seen in a while (I believe he was calling that game). Very inconsistent. He needs to work on his "hobby" more and worry about regulating HR celebrations a lot less. If I enjoyed drinking Dr. Pepper or Snapple, I would switch to Mr. Pibb and Fruitopia. Take that you Philly flake!!!

My boss once told me that when you get to a certain level and stage of life you have to be above certain things. Personally I think Mac was over the top with his celebration. If it had been a game winning homerun to end the game then that would have been more feasible to react like that. However I can also understand how he responded with an over the top celebration after knowing his recent history with the injury and that the hit probably sealed the win. I also understand the umpire getting on to him and telling him to move or to tone it down. Even Coach Lemonis apologized to the home plate umpire. My issue is with the umpire’s response on social media. He basically sounded like a fan of an opposing school instead of someone that is supposed to be above all the collateral chatter. Imagine if he had responded to the guy’s comment on Facebook with something to effect of “I understand the player was in the heat of the moment and caught up in the excitement. I wanted to try and keep control of the game as I observed it had the potential for both teams to get really emotional. However it wouldn’t be fair to the player or any player to try and make a judgment on attitudes or motivation. Please also remember these are teenagers or kids in their early twenties playing for incredibly high stakes and for many it is the last time they will wear a uniform. Let’s not make any one instant any bigger than that. It was a wonderful weekend of baseball. I’m humbled to just be a small part of it.”

He shouldn’t be umpiring if he doesn’t love the game. There’s a hundred other people out there that would gladly do this job to the best of their ability and here’s this schmuck pissing on a young man’s parade. I don’t condone invading his privacy, but his profile is open and public. I do think he should not umpire anymore with his open disdain about umping and kids though. He needs to keep that private.

Post game presser coach said Mac flipped the bat over the catcher and coach apologized to the home ump after. That may have been what the first base ump saw.

Sounds like a made up story. Mac is a right handed hitter who flipped his bat back toward the 3rd base dugout? How would in the world would that go over the catcher?

I would certainly agree with you and no doubt that if it was a Stanford SR who hit a 3 run HR to put them up 8-1 in the 9th in a game that eliminated us and did that, we would all certainly be pissed about it. Actually thought it was a very classy move by Stanford to hang around and shake our hand after the wild celebration that happened in the 9th and after the game. Couldn't have been easy for those players but they did it.
