I really can't concentrate on anything. I can't even concentrate or get a handle on how huge this game really is. Thing is, it is really no more important than it was before we played the Memphis game...but the way we beat Memphis...dammit...I am sucked in aGAIN.

Something about this game just scares me to death. I have an uneasy feeling that we are going to get throttled, then I have visions of Mitchell dancing in the endzone with a gift from Newton. On top of everything, this is the first home game I will miss in a long time. I couldn't be a more uncomfortable, nervous wretch at this point.

I feel the exact same way. Feel like we could get pounded pretty good but I also hold out hope after the Memphis game that we can find a way to win.

Was going to go watch this game in a bar here in New Orleans but have decided to just watch at my house - by myself - because I feel like I am going to be unfit for human interaction.

I feel the same way! Exactly! The problem I have is I'm going up for the game and I'm bringing some people with me. I've promised them we would hangout at the local bars after the game to drink and have a good time. But! I am absolutely terrible to be around after a loss. Plus, this game is one I want extremely bad and I don't think we're going to pull it out(I'm a pessimist). I've been taking tums all week because my stomach is a wreck!

....if we have another crowd like Saturday and we win. I think Mullen sends the fanbase to a level of excitement that surpasses the 2000 season. It seems the energy and excitement surrounding State is at a all time high. We have got to keep it going.

beat UT by 4, then lost to Arkansas (by 21), LSU (by 21), and a not sogood Georgia team (by 7). Of course this was before the hiring signing of Mr. Newton.

We're going to have to find a way to win one of the next two. And if we were to beat Auburn and LSU, we'll need to find a way to beat Georgia and we'll have a couple weeks off from the brutal stretch.

There will be talk of us winning the West. I feel like Thursday is the toughest game out of our next 3, if we win it we could really have a special season on our hands.

I just keep reminding myself that weprobably have a better chance of beating LSU or Georgia, and we need to takeat least one of these games.

because we have made a lot of progress. I don't see us getting throttled. At least I would be surprised if we did. Not saying that we will win or lose, but it should be a close game. The thing is, what we need is a marquee win over someone, because if we can get that, it's going to get our players confidence to skyrocket, and it's going to carry over throughout the rest of the season.

The Auburn game seems like an opportune time to get that marquee win because they are a well respected team, but it is in Starkville which is going to be tough for them, and we have made a significant upgrade at DC, which to me is what killed us last year during the Auburn game. It's also on Thursday night on ESPN.

Let's be honest here- this game IS huge. It's probably about as important as a game is going to get this early in the year.

Every State fan I know thinks we will win and all the Aub's I know think likewise. Friday is going to be rough for someone.

I think the reason it is so big to me is that it backs up to LSU/UGA. We really need to go 1 of 3 at minimum through this stretch. If we get it now, then losing to LSU does not kill our bowl hopes.

Until Bama loses or at least looks mortal nobody else is getting legit talk about winning the western division. They haven't lost to a western division team since Croom had a winning season.

even though this is really probably the toughest game, matchups-wise, of the 3. We really only NEED to win 1 of the next 3, but winning this one could mean big, big things. I will tell you one thing, Mullen is ready for this game. A friend of mine got to go on the Mullen bus during the road dogs tour and Mullen was breaking down Auburn video this summer on the bus, during the tour.

Edited to add:

This would be a great entry for "Books that will never be written about Sly Croom."

1. To be prepared for the "biggest game of the season"

2. The spanking that Auburn gave us last season planted a seed of intense anger and revenge in Mullen. The man doesn't like losing, even more so when it's hands down *** whipping.

If we win against Auburn thursday, no one on this board will get a damn thing done for the next 9 days and we will grow steel wool that cannot be sheared.

I think Auburn is our most likely win of the three. 1) We have a much better history against Auburn than the other two. 2) It's at home and on a Thursday night.

And furthermore (I know the following puts me in a minority if not on an island by myself):

I think Auburn is overrated.

I think they're the fifth best team in the division.

I think we're going to beat their ***.

I'm not saying it can't happen. There is the possibility that The Mississippi River will run backwards. It happened once when God wanted to fill up Reelfoot Lake. I thnk it will take more than beating Auburn to make anyone who knows what the guys in T-Town are capable of doing to begin talking about SEC West.

Alright, I knew better than to watch that vid, but now I just want to suit up and kill someone wearin blue, white, orange! I'm not worth anything at work and not gonna be, should've just taken the week off! This game is one of the biggest of my lifetime at least because of what it could lead to...I feel pumped, but I'm also worried...Anyone know how much truth there is to the start of that video when it says Arky St defense is supposedly 41st in the country? And Cam is so easy to hate that it's just fueling the fire, that kid needs his block knocked off!

I assume they were referring to last season, but still it would be against their usual clown-shoes competition. I will say one thing, if Auburn's O-line does the matador impression they did in a few of those scrambling clips, Big Pern might break Newton in half. I know, I know...it is like I have a split-personality right now.

"against their usual clown-shoes competition" Classic... I laughed my *** off on that one. But you're right, that was last year's stat which is totally meaningless this year based on what I saw in that video. Auburn will score on us, you can take that to the bank, so we will have to match punch for punch and it may come down to who has the ball last and the kicking game.

I had planned from day one to go to the game, but now that it's here - I'm just not sure if I really need to skip town for essentially 2 days this week, after having Monday off. I could probably pull it off, but I just know I'll have some kind of meeting pop up out of nowhere on Friday that I'll need to attend, and then I'd be screwed.

Now that it's looking like I may just stay in Nashville, I'm thinking I need to just stay my happy *** at home and watch it all alone, as I don't think I will be able to be in public - win or lose. So it's either drive 9 hours round trip to Starkville and watch it with 55K other State fans or watch it all by my lonesome. Damn this kind of sucks.

My question is, why in the hell does everyone think because they were so "dominant" on offense against ARKANSAS STATE means that they have ascended into the stars?? It was Arkansas State for christ's sake...

There is NO doubt that Newton is a GREAT player, but I am not buying that Auburn is now a National Powerhouse. Keep in mind, Arkansas State hung 26 friggin points on Aubbie. Where is that in all these discussions?? Plus, Auburn only scored ONE more TD than us...

Settle down people, it's going to be a GREAT game, and even though my wool is as thick as most of you, I would not be surprised if we beat Auburn.

Guess we should make a TR for Heisman video too.

The key to the Auburn game is not their offense, it's their defense. Will they be able to stop us at all? Put Russell in and just air it out all night or put our own version of the mule in there (Relf). Tough decision.

Now I'm usually not one to compare teams and common oponnents, but that Ark. St. '09 schedule might provide some insight. Both us and Ark. St. played Middle Tennessee last year in Murphreesboro, where State gave up 6 points, and ASU gave up 38 (one of their highest totals of the year). Yes, same personnel, but different coaches and scheme now. But here's what could be significant, I can't remember if Dwight Dasher played against us last year, but if he did I believe he is at least some what comparable to Mr. Newton. That being said, State did a pretty good job handling the dual threat QB and ASU did not against him or Cam. Another thing is that Diaz coached at Middle Tennessee last year and may have some ideas on how to stop a guy like that considering he practiced against him everyday. I guess time will tell, this sucks.

I just imagine Cam Newton running through our secondary like Bo Jackson, and then running a slow semi-circle along thewidth of our endzone, holding the ball up above his head. Also, he's really nonchalant about it. Thoughts like this keep me from getting too carried away too soon.
