Karlin Brown is nothing more than a special teamer. Period. Safety is our deepest and most loaded position. Charles Mitchell is a lock to start at one S spot and the other will almost certainly be occupied by Zach Smith, Cam Lawrence, or Dennis Thames. And regardless of who starts, we'll probably rotate all 4 like we did with DP/Fitzhugh/Glanton/Mitchell this past season. Karlin is a guy that plays with a lot of heart, but physically doesn't have the goods to play anything other than special teams in this league. And that's not necessarily a bad thing, because I think he'd be hell on wheels as a special teams player. You can always use those guys on punt and kick coverage. Jackie's coverage teams made a living off of guys like Karlin. Guys that played with a mean streak, flew to the ball, and hit with bad intentions when they got there. We need a few guys like that on our special teams, and Karlin can provide that. But there's no way he's cracking the S or LB depth chart for actual defensive snaps.
