Hines has k’ed 9-10 times (including 4 last night) with 1 hit and 1 walk in last 4 games.
I like Hines and I’m not hating on him but he needs to be in 8 or 9 hole for time being. He had been doing a lot better over past 3 weeks until last weekend.

My wife was half listening/watching the FL game Friday night and they were taking about a few HR’s from Palmeiro and she was like who is this Hunter Hines guy.
He’s had what 4 years to play and almost get the same amount of HR’s but yet he is light years behind Raffy, Clark, Renfroe, among others.

It annoys me that tv announcers keep harping on that Hines has the same home runs as Palmerio and Clark. I had 4 seats behind home plate back in that era and let me assure you that the only similarities between them is numbers. Hines is not any where near the players that thunder and lightning were.

Hines also has over 100 more at bats than Palmeiro did. And a short porch in right field. And is about .100 short of Palmeiro's batting average.

He's light years behind Bruce too.

Palmeiro had 67 career in '83-'85. Hines stands at 62 now for '22-'25. With Hunter it is most often all or nothing though. I'd like to see a stat for runners left on this season alone for him, or maybe I don't want to see it.

That said, Hunter deserves a TON of credit for fielding the shat-tastic throws he has had to dig out of the dirt from the left side infielders we have had for the past 2 seasons. Can't ask for anything more from his fielding.

Re: Hines' fielding - he's grown a ton defensively over the last 1-2 years. Seems like my only small complaint is that he's been called a couple of times for pulling his foot off the bag on a play where he wasn't having to range to the side to catch the ball. Granted, he's hoovered up some turrible throws over there, but 2-3 times recently we've had runners that were out called safe because he pulled his foot off.

Re: Hines' hitting. The HR record has 100% gotta be in his head at this point. He swings at EVERYTHING. Constantly facing 0-2 counts, and as Greg Maddux will tell ya, why waste an 0-2 pitch when a batter's average drops .100 or more when 0-2. He's chasing breaking pitches and whiffing on heat because he's swinging out of his shoes.
