The official brackets have been released and we can start filling out our brackets. This works very similar to the NCAA March Madness bracket challenge, as you make all your picks out all the way out to your champion before the playoffs begin.
Some of the key rules: all picks need to be in by kickoff on Friday of the first game and no editing after that; only one 1A bracket per person will be accepted. Games in Round 1 will be worth 1 point (everyone will get a point for Riverheads and William Campbell in Reg B round 1 since they have a bye), Round 2 worth 2 points, Round 3 (regional championship) worth 4 points, Round 4 (state semi) worth 8 points, and Round 5 (State Championship) worth 16 points. Tiebreaker #1 will be total points scored in the State Championship game, and in the event we need a second, Tiebreaker #2 will be closest total points in the Championship without going over actual points scored.
The match-ups can be found on the VHSL website, but they are also below:
Region A
(1) Essex vs (8) Northampton
(4) West Point vs (5) Northumberland
(2) Sussex Central vs (7) Middlesex
(3) Colonial Beach vs (6) Washington & Lee
Region B
(1) Riverheads vs BYE
(4) Altavista vs (5) Stonewall Jackson
(2) William Campbell vs BYE
(3) Central Lunenburg vs (6) Cumberland
Region C
(1) Narrows vs (8) Rural Retreat
(4) Covington vs (5) Auburn
(2) Galax vs (7) Bland
(3) George Wythe vs (6) Parry McCluer
Region D
(1) Chilhowie vs (8) Castlewood
(4) Eastside vs (5) Hurley
(2) Patrick Henry vs (7) Thomas Walker
(3) Grundy vs (6) J.I. Burton
I will post my bracket picks below, and if everyone could try to do the same format (Region A thru D, but not necessarily the bold/italics, as I just did that for my own benefit), that'd be ideal to save me some time when I tally all the games.
