1A Fun Fact for the State Semifinals

I love a good road trip and when it comes to high school football. It's great to go places you've never been and take everything in.

I don't have a dog in any fight next week (except I'd like to see the Fredericksburg area teams win); but out of curiosity, I decided to do some mapping.

Did you know that Indianapolis and Atlanta are closer drives in both mileage and distance for Haysi than Essex?

Pretty cool factoid if you ask me.

And in case you're keeping score at home, Haysi's trip to Essex is still almost two hours less and just under 140 miles less than Clintwood's road trip in 1978 and their state title win at Onancock which has to still go down as the longest road trip for any team in a VHSL postseason.

Come on down to Honaker HR6 I might be wrong but I think even you might like our facilities! We have two very good concession stands! Hopefully the game will be good also!

Essex loses home field with the best grass "field" in the state. Nobody said a word if Colonial Beach had hosted with similar facilities and no grass. Sorry if football isn't the most important thing going for us in the East. We just do it until the next sport comes along

just curious, how far apart are honaker and haysi?

I would have to google for exact numbers but drivin Rt 80 from Honaker to Haysi its about 35miles i think and takes about 40- 45 min. ive been there a ton and i should knw without google maps but thats a close estimate.

And for a little extra point ... in 2A Richlands is our neighbor to the northeast ... only 20 min up Rt 67 from Honaker the other way and they will be in the 2A semis!! Shoutout for the Blue Naders!!!
