Could be 4-0 or 3-1 against solid teams. Yes, we have issues with our secondary and no pass rush. Penalties need to be fixed as well. We haven't gone a whole game with our top 3 LB's yet. Our starting DE and DT along with our other starting LB's didn't play this game, Our top playmaker DPE hasn't played this year. Its a new season and hopefully we can get healthy, get some starters back, learn and grow from the non conference games and go win the Big 10 west. Outside of MSU I don't see too many stud QB's and scary offenses. One game at a time. Real season starts next week. GBR

Why do you guys keep saying that. The real season is 1/3 over now.

If we play like this there is going to be many bumps in the sea over the horizon.

Because the goal is to win your division first and play for the Big 10 title. Not to whack it to Bo's 9 win seasons and nothing more!!Sick
This isn't about coaching staffs, more about arithmetic. And as for winning the conference, this isn't a defense that can contend for a conference title. Run D good. Pass D POROUS. LETS NOT BE SO PRO Riley/Anti BO that we overlook obvious deficiencies with the current team. Our defensive players are more talented than this.

Until we get our secondary and pass rush figured out I'm sure all the teams are licking their chops. Not having a Valentine, Gangwish, Bando and Rose Ivey out there hurts.

No doubt it sure does. The lack of backup talent is alarming.

I like looking at the non-conference as the preseason also. It's going to be awhile until we can run the table, and I'm more interested in winning the division for a shot to play in the conference championship.

I did like the new wrinkle with the FB today, that brought up memories of old. Jano is a stud.

Damn right. I said BEFORE the season that our paper thin depth at LB was a major concern and we needed to stay healthy. Well, 4 games in EVERY one of our top 3 LB's has missed a game or two due to suspension and injury. And thanks to Bo, I don't have a lot of faith in Gifford, Weber and Newby. Also, not having a Randy Gregory speed rusher leaves those DB's out there hanging with no pass rush. No disrespect but Gangwish, Dzuris and McMullen aren't speed rushers. Once again ..nice recruiting Bo. Just need to clean it up and get healthy and we will be fine.

I think the pass rush was pretty good today. We had pressure on the QB quick, problem is our secondary can't even cover for a couple seconds.

There is no preseason in College Football. But we need to also get healthy on defense if we want to win the West division.

I would give us about a 1 in 3 shot at winning the division this year. We had a 22-0 half time lead, and our great teams would have had 35 or 42 at half against that team. And we got worse after the half, at home.

unless they just purposely fail to get more playing time?

Illinois is licking their chops.

The same Illinois team that got walloped by North Carolina and is struggling offensively against Middle Tennesee State? I mean, our pass defense is bad enough that we should be scared about anybody, but the Illini are pretty bad.

We brought pressure. We can't produce a simple four man rush.

The LBer depth sucks but it seems like most of the passes that cause problems have little to do with LBer coverage...blitzing though, that could be a different story.

Illinois defense is horrendous but Wes Lunt will soon be earning a pro paycheck so it could be a mini-shootout. Both teams have enough of a ground game to protect a lead late. First team to 30 is sitting pretty.
