2 Great Moves by Stansbury Yesterday

1. Pulling Kodi for Phil Turner. I don't know how Kodi can look at himself in the mirror knowing that we bring in a guy that is many inches shorter and many lbs lighter to play defense in these tight games. He should look at his physical stature and then Phil's and just realize how much better he could be. Phil really brought a defensive energy. I thought after his 4 pt play, Dee got really fired up and did a better job on that guard, and Jarvis picked up his game as well. Maybe Jarvis could play better D when Phil was in because he wasn't having to defend everyone in the post and could focus on just his guy. 2. That full court press just demolished Georgia. I don't know if they scored more than 1 or 2 more baskets the last 5 minutes of the game. While going to the press was the logical move there, I thought we obviously executed it very well and even when we tied the game back up we stuck with what was working. Finally, for the 10 or so Stansbury bashers. The double standard you apply to Stansbury is ridiculous. Most of the arguments that are made start with the assumption that Stansbury is coaching with the 92 Dream Team talent and that the other coach is getting by with Hickory High (Pre Jimmy Chitwood Talent). SEC West titles and first round departures on a consistent basis are good enough to me. Stansbury by law of averages should get a good draw eventually and make that run in the tourney, and I'm just happy to see us rack up SEC West and SEC Tourney Titles in the mean time.

I would argue, as some have already done, that taking Phil out of the game is what made us have to come all the way back. It's no coincidence that when we put Phil in, we tied the game up. When Stan's took him out, I think we had 2 turnovers and Georgia scored 6 points in a minute and a half and got up by 6. He was the only one rebounding with consistency on both the offensive and defensive glass. His 3 point shot is much better, and he is WAY more physical than Kodi.

I will also argue that Stansbury does have some good talent on this team. We won the SEC Championship last year. You can say you got hot at the right time, yada yada yada. The point is, this team has that exact same talent as last year, and I think we are underachieving with that talent. Georgia played good defense but didn't do well creating their own offense. We handed them a lot of points by not rebounding. Unless we get more physical in the post, teams that are way better than Georgia that have 2 capable big men are going to crush us. The reason we are MSU is because people have been ok with 1st round exits. To become a good team, doing just a little better than average can't cut it. You comment about law of averages disgusts me. That is all.

Stans not only made the obvious move to the full court press, he also extended the half court defense. Georgia was not allowed to get into their sets...the press, combined with the extended defense, really shut them down.

This board is nothing if not blunt.

And I agree - nothing gets under my skin more than the portion of our fanbase that is satisfied with the status quo. No matter the sport, there should ALWAYS be a desire on the part of the administration, teams, and fanbase to be continually improving.

Any time a team has two decent players down low, one of them gets the gift of Kodi's defense. Yesterday, we tried early to play some zone, but the Leslie kid broke us from it in the high post. The bottom line is that we've got two defensive liabilities in the starting lineup, and that's going to catch up with us eventually. Phil could start, but then the best defender off of the bench is Riley Benock.

and LT's view that losing was the best lil ole MSU could ever do. But seriously Stans is a consistent winner - arguing for him is not the "bad MSU fan" mentality. Give it a rest. I can't believe some of our fans don't realize this. Or maybe you're just $+%++## with everybody.

along with alot of our delusional fan base that you guys all suffer from a disease called the "R.C Slocum syndrome" . Thats right . If I had to compare the Stansbury situation to any other in collegiate sports it would be the Texas A&M football program and R C Slocum .

Texas A&M in the late '90's got tired of winning 7-8 games a year with RC Slocum. Their fan base screamed for change beacuse "they were ready to take the next step" and start winning 9-11 games a year. So what do they do? They lay an egg by hiring Dennis Francione who only reverted the program into mediocraty , and eventually got rid of him to hire Mike Sherman who is big time underacheiving . Oh ,do the Aggie fan base long for the days of RC Slocum.

I cant wait until we hire a John Pelphrey, Trent Johnson , Gillespie, Stan Heath, or some other coach that comes in , coaches for 4 years , avaerages 15-18 wins a year and we fire him. Only, then will you long for the days of Stansbury

I don't think ANYONE is satisfied with ONLY winning the SECW. We all want more. We all want the Sweet 16, Elite 8, Final 4 and National Championship. ALL OF US!!! Just because we haven't made it there under Stans doesn't mean we never will. What is so 17'n hard to comprehend about that??? Goddamn, you're a 17'n idiot!

Another thing that's wrong with the MSU fan base - thinking that opinions posted by people on a message board has an iota to do with the performance on the court/field. Its one of the things that helps make MSU's the dumbest fan base in America.

When was the last time we won an SEC Title in the other Big 2 sports? I will answer that question for you...1989 Baseball. Under Stansbury we have won an outright SEC Title. We have been ranked as high as #2 in the nation under Stansbury. We have won two SEC Tournament Championships. All of this with hardly any previous tradition or history. Our fanbase has put up with a lot worse, especially in baseball. Our baseball program at one time had the actual resources to be the best program in the nation and we squandered that away. Now, our program is even with about 4 or 5 other programs in the SEC and is an afterthought in the national conversation. Our basketball program is still being built and has been in the top 4 SEC programs during the Rick Stansbury era. And when I say top 4, that is by record only, because from a resource standpoint, we are nowhere near top 4. I don't think I'm settling for mediocrity, when I back Stansbury as the coach at MSU.

Let's go back and bring up Rider and Richmond. 2 teams that we have absolutely no business losing, however we manage to lose them both, 1 of which being at home. We return every part except Brian Johnson, and we lose at home by double digits to open the season. There is a level that most people on here expect Stansbury to have reached by now, and losing those types of games are what's preventing him from taking this program to the next level. How much press is Jarvis getting, or Dee Bost getting, if we are 17 and 1 with only a loss to Western Kentucky? I think the Stansbury bashing isn't for not winning enough SEC Titles or SEC West Titles, its the stuff like Rider that people always have in the back of their minds, or the fact that we can't get anywhere in the NCAA Tournament.

Basketball has 5 starters- and basically 4 pretty good players on a team can get you a really good season. Plus, Freshman can easily step in and contribute. You can literally build a good team in one recruiting season.

Football- has 66 starters, 22 that play a majority of the time. Lots of injuries affecting play. Takes alot of resources and lots of building to have a good team. One recruiting class wont do it.

Baseball- 8 regular starters plus a pitching staff. Takes a minimum of 6 quality pitchers to compete. Arm injuries are common.
