From whatI've heard, Deshun is going pro unless the Rays try to lowball him. His brother Rashun got a $600,000 signing bonus from the A's, a notoriously cheap team who drafted him in the 10th round last year. If Deshun doesn't go pro, he'll probably go the JUCO route in Florida, so he can get drafted next year.

From Starkville, may have got drafted as a pitcher, but I think he had a losing record for a LONG time at Starkville, and I know that at one time his ERA was above 3, which is high for a prospect. He is 6'4", and I actually wanted us to recruit him as an outfielder- he hit over 10 home runs for the Yellowjackets.

I think he is going to East Mississippi CC- or that's where he was committed to.

Forrest Moore surprises me just because he is coming off of surgery. I figured that he would maybe try to make the team next year, or go somewhere else and then get drafted.

I umpired and referee'ed several of his baseball/basketball games. I also played some adult league baseball with his dad as well... He comes from a good family and is a great kid. Didn't realize he was that highly sought after as a player though... He was always one of the best on the field/court growing up, but he wasn't "mlb draft" good when I saw him. I guess a lot has changed since his younger days...

All the best to him though, I hope he makes it.

The MLB draft is not always about present ability as much as it is "potential". I think they (MLB) sees a guy that is 6'3-6'4 and can pitch and play the outfield that played on an average high school team, and has a pretty good arm and some power.

Daryl Norris was drafted by the Rangers in the 46th round.

Hunter Renfroe- MCC commit who we were recruiting- was drafted in the 31st round by the Red Sox

DeMarcus Henderson was drafted by the Astros in the 43rd round.

CT Bradford was drafted by the Indians in the 48th round.

Taylor Stark was drafted by the Nationals in the 42nd round.

Kaleb Barlow- Was at one time considered one of the top three players in Mississippi- was drafted by the Rockies in the 43rd round.

Donnie Tabb- a MSU commit from last year who did not qulaify academically was also drafted out of East Central CC by the Mets in the 42nd round.

A coach at Copiah Academy told me this kid wanted to come to State. Said he is an incredible hitter and also a great defensive catcher with a good time on his throw to second. He told scouts that unless they paid him a million signing bonus, he was going to college. This no doubt hurt his draft status. This coach told me several pro scouts were interested. The scouts never got to see him hit because he was intentionally walked nearly every at bat. Renfroe would stay after games and hit with a wood bat for the scouts. This coach said that he was much better than anyone on Prep's team (who they played several times this year), including Barlow. Anyone know why we didn't get him?

I heard he also throws in the low 90s. The pros liked his pitching as much as his hitting. He might be going to MCC and thinking he can get drafted high next year.

that we are/were recruiting ever since the State Game in Meridian last year. State and LSU were both recruiting him pretty hard, but he chose to go to Meridian.

I'm not exactly sure why he wanted to go there- could have been several things such as he can now get drafted after his freshman and sophomore year there, could have been that he wanted playing time right away because of our situation at catcher, maybe he wants to see if he can get more scholarship money. I think he has the grades. He may want to go pro. Whatever it is, it's not because we didn't recruit him.

I suspect that we will still be recruiting him while he is at MCC, should he go there.

is the guy from Florida. I'd rather have Renfroe.

Also, at the time, we had Carlos Leal- Gene's Latin lover- on the team as well. I swear, it seemed like Gene did an update on him every week. And the guy was a walk-on.

And then we have Garrett Pitts who will likely be moved to catcher as well. I also expect us to get Austin Knight from Sumrall in the upcoming class, and then we have the Shempert guy from Houston who is a rising junior next year. I don't know that he will stay at catcher though. Also have Kolby Byrd and Dallas Hannah who are still around.

And he came in the 8th the pitch and he was between 92 to 95 hitting 96 once. He was also a double away from going for the cycle. He is legit. I also think it was grade that kept him from State although I do not know for a fact

I've honestly heard that Renfroe came up to visit at State and he wanted to come here. After talking to some of the players on the team, though, he heard that it was not fun at all playing for Cohen and that he shouldnt come, so he decided to go JUCO instead. This came from my roommate who's brother was a senior on the Copiah team with Renfroe.

IF that's true, which I highly doubt because he had an offer from LSU, then we're better off without him.

Also, if we have players on the team telling people to NOT come to MSU for any reason whatsoever, they need to be drug out in the street and have their *** kicked, and then cut from the team.

That said, until proven otherwise, I would take him on my team anyday.

I don't think Austin Knight will every be able to hit at the SEC level but they might take him just because he is Larry Knight's son. He is big though. I also heard from good sources that Byrd and Hannah had been cut.

Knight to come in and be All-SEC. There has been some debate about whether he will actually walk-on or get a scholarship, which should tell you something right there. We won't really know until July 1 when teams can officially offer, so I guess he's a MSU "lean". I do agree that there are some politics with it with his Dad.

As far as Kolby Byrd- I've heard that he had his scholarship cut from a couple of people, but as of about a week ago he was still on the team. So, essentially he's fighting for a walk-on spot, and if he doesn't transfer I would not be shocked at all if he doesn't make the team.

Dallas Hannah- I think he's in the same boat as Kolby Byrd, except that he was a walk-on to start with, so there was no scholarship to cut.

I have not heard if those two have been officially cut from the team, but it wouldn't shock me at all. As it stands now, I think the staff is expecting Garrett Pitts to be the catcher of the future, and they may be hoping to get Renfroe down the line, which would be perfect timing for us because that would be right after Brett Bozeman graduates. Other than Knight, I don't know of any other catchers that we're recruiting. I'm not sure what the staff sees Scotty Peavey as or if we will offer him.
