From my understanding they were going work on this with SF when the season started in camp but SF never had the chance.... So last night they tried it with Zach Darlington for a tribute too SF....

If you rewatch the play (and know how the swinging gate is supposed to work), they should not have went for two based on the defensive alignment. It only worked because Darlington made a great play. That alone makes me think it was a tribute.

Right when Darlington cut it back to the inside you'll notice that Sam Cotton (#84) was wide open. But you're right, hell of an effort and play by Darlington to get into the end zone.

Yes-they had actually worked on it in spring practice and it was designed specifically for Sam to make use of his athleticism. Normally they wouldn't have used it in this game, but it was done as a tribute to Sam.
