Okay... I admit I'm an old fart and I'm not up to speed on a lot of things. So please refrain from flaming me. These are legitimate questions.

First: I've heard a lot the last few weeks about the "Pistol" formation, particularly pertaining to Bama. I presume it's a variation of the shotgun but I don't get the difference. Can someone please explain it to me.

Second: While channel surfing today, watching UT/UK, The Ohio State University/Michigan, Michigan State/PSU, I notice that after almost every touchdown the player makes a diamond shape with his hands. What's up with this?

Thanks in advance for education an old geezer.

In the pistol, the QB is not as deep as in the shotgun and has a running back directly behind him. </p>

Regarding the diamond formation.....I don't know about every school, but I know the Alabama players have "A" logos on the palms of their gloves. When they make that diamond with their hands, they are flashing the logos to the fans.

In the pistol formation, the RB is behind the QB so he can start running before he gets a handoff. In the standard shotgun, a RB would be next to the QB and would not be running forward when he receives the ball.

The Nike Pro uniforms have gloves that make their logo.
