Hasn't a 2 seed been the host location in a regional before? I think it had Ohio State in it. I don't know the details, but Purdue sounds like where we'll end up and apparently they don't have a park. There's talk of Gary, IN or Wrigley, but if a 2 seed has been the site before why wouldn't they give Dudy the nod then when they know how much more money they'd make and exposure they'd get at our place vs... Somewhere near Purdue?

for host sites. In those cases a #2 seed could have outbid a #1 seed and been awarded the host site. When that practice was eliminated the possibility of a #2 seed hosting went with it.

That makes sense. And makes sense why I haven't seen it done since I've been following NCAA baseball. Thanks.

in 1997 I believe when the Washington Huskies were sent to our regional as a 1 seed. We were also a 2 seed host in our 1990 regional with FSU as the 1 seed.

there aren't really any small schools in the Top 16 thatwouldn't be able tohost.

Regarding Purdue, just because of the noise from the B1G Conference about baseball, I would guess the NCAA will let Purdue host wherever they want. Had it been a non-B1G school that didn't have a home stadium available, then State might have beenone of the first 2 seeds in line to host in their place.

Also, in recent years, it seems that the NCAA has let even the small schools host, like Coastal Carolina, so there will probably be fewer and fewer 2 seeds hosting regionals in the future.

Yes, I was going to bring that point up if someone had replied it would have been possible. It being a B1G school and us being an SEC school and the bad blood between our conferences and commissioners I don't think it could happen regardless of anything. A fun option to discuss anyway.

USM did host as the #2 in 2003. Baylor was the #1 seed and won the regional. I always felt like the committee couldn't decide which of those teams they should seed higher so they split the difference and gave 1 the #1 seed and let the other host.

I think it's an option for the committee to at least discuss. Purdue deserves a #1 seed but unless they lock up Wrigley I don't think they should be allowed to host. They lost less than 10 games but did so in a pretty bad conference, and they're having to explore privately owned parks. Meanwhile we're hot, on the outside bubble looking in for a host site, and historically THE PLACE to host. I would have no problem hosting and giving them the #1 seed. Financially it makes sense for all teams involved. ...... It won't happen though.
