2 weeks to prepare, what does Dan come up with?

Dan ain't Crxxm. He knows the game of football can be a little more complicated than just "executing." Especially, when there is a talent gap. So with that in mind, what does Dan come up with this week to counter the Bama run defense?

The thread about Dixon led me to think about this. I don't see us counter treying Bama into defeat like we did UK. Now, if we had not shown this play all year, I think it works well against Bama. However, they will be prepared for it. I really think with two weeks off, Dan is going to have something alittle more up his sleeve. I look for an emphasis on getting the ball out on the edges away from the teeth of that defense. Then when we have them flying out to the edges, a few counter treys to keep them guessing.

I don't know. However, I do anticipate Dan coming up with something. I am just anxious to see what it is. I bet Bumphis gets a pass attempt. Also, I look for Relf to get a few more snaps running the option to keep Lee healthy.

looking for a matchup advantage. I bet he's been face-handing a lot, because it's damn near impossible to find one. Maybe he can do something to put Bumphis in the middle of the field and create a mis-match. I'm guessing he wants to see Green matched up on their white bread LB who replaced Hightower. He's got to do something to stay out of 3rd and long, and he's got to keep them honest against the pass to give Dixon space.

My co-worker's password has been good for me to read some bama premium articles. I read one yesterday that quoted Saban saying they are considering going to the nickel package and just staying in it all game since they are about to face three spread teams and need to get ready. That tells me Saban thinks his front four plus McClain can handle our OL and keep Dixon in check.

Actually, I can't wait to see what Mullen tries to do to counter their speed and toughness.

I think we see more passes in the flat to the running backs. Went back and watched the UK highlights. We were getting 7-8 yrs a pop on first down. That is just not going to happen with UAt. As previously mentioned they will stack the pass and make miniLee pass the ball. Hopefully Mullen has come up with some type of deep ball to neonleon or Wilder just to keep them honest. Would not be surprised the see the halfback pass that Bumphis floated earlier this yr. Mullen knows that we have nothing to lose. Leave it all on the field. GO STATE!

But he probably does feel that his 3 plus a backer or 2 can.

/Bama doesn't run a 4 man front, unless you are counting Cody as two, which could actually be a legitimate argument.

Scott had 83 yards on only 13 carries vs the Bammer defense, and i'm told here on the Pack daily that Dixon is better than Scott, then Mullen will obviously find a way for Dixon to hit the edges for some big runs. There is no room to run inside between the guards

We'll have a great plan along with some trick plays...we just have to complete some passes to back them off a little

You know Dan will have something up his sleeve, now......lets hope the midget can execute it. That's been our problem all year, not bad plays, just can't make it happen.

I think Marcus Green will have a career day. With Bama's stiff run defense and so much focus on Dixon I expect to see them try to exploit the linebakcer matchup Shmuley mentioned by hitting Green in stride. Kid is a heck of a player and can really get some YAC. Between him and Bumphis I think we can force them to drop soem guys back into coverage enough to give AD some breathing room at the line. My 2 cents.

With as physical as Bamas defense like to be in their front 7, I can see that PA pass to Green over the top that we've run a few times working in this game. Wilder is a legit deep threat, and I think if we can ge the safeties to back off enough, it might leave a few gaps in between the 4 linebackers and the safeties for Lee to drop a couple in for Green. We've hit it a few times this year, and with some of the blitz schemes that Bama runs with the LBs, calling that play at the right time could really move the chains for us. I also think we need to go back to those little Bumphis screens and get the defense going one way, setting up the cut back, or a delayed draw off of that play the other way. The way to beat speed is to get them to overpursue, so any way we can do that needs to be utilized.

...involve the TE as much as possible. Tie up their linebackers in coverage. Cross your fingers. Pray.

On defense.. Stop what you can. Ingram. We don't match up with Julio Jones anyway, so force them to throw the ball. Take away the run as much as you can.

don't let those big bodies get any breathers. Make them run to the edges with a lot of screens and outside runs. They will wear down eventually.

which improves both their running game and their passing game. He's McElroy's favorite target and he can seal the corner with the best of them.

That is one thing that I noticed that made me feel good about our chances. Scott is a Dixon like back that can move piles.</p>

that dixon will have a hard time running the ball seeing as we'll face a team that will probably pay no attention to our passing game

Atleast LSU has a quarterback that can keep Alabama honest in the passing game unlike us. I don't expect Dixon to be as fortunate as Scott was in the yards per carry stat but we will still attempt to punch them in the mouth and I look forward to seeing Dixon walk off the field Saturday night without a season ending injury.

But like you said I do think Mullen will have a great plan along with some trickery. Lets all just hope it doesn't implode on us.

lots of no-huddle...keep it moving quick...the only bad part of this is if we go 3 and out and the D gets no rest- cause their O will wear us down too

lsu had some success with their TE (not dickson), who was a converted receiver. green is more athletic than your average TE, and hopefully will be the mismatch we're looking for. of course, that means more of tyson lee passing over the middle, so we'll have to keep our fingers crossed there.

if they stack the box, i think we'll go with more swing passes to AD to get him the ball hopefully in space, with corners and safeties trying to tackle him instead of DL and LBs. their speed will make that tough, but i expect we'll need to do some of that to keep them honest in the box.

They lined 4 WR on the left side on a 3rd down play. I think the guy dropped the ball. They lined up and ran the exact same play got the first down but there was a hold or false start.

because I have been watching our receivers [not] blocking downfield all season. Their corners are lightning fast and can get through good blocking receivers. How many times have we watched Bumphis pretending to block?

it's not that i'm satisfied (or confident) with our receivers' blocking abilities - it's more that we need to get the ball to dixon where he can make plays. if they're taking away the running game by stacking the box, we still need to get it to him on swing passes and such. we need productivity from dixon to have a chance.

No way MiniLee is going to go in there and keep Bama honest with his downfield passing skills. I think we're gonna see a bag of new plays from Mullen and I think we'll see frequent doses of Relf to keep them off balance.

he is hitting port-a-potties at practice with his passes...we need him to throw as much as we need Crooms calling plays
