No question that ESL team was a force. They were loaded pretty much everywhere. But I think having the one loss takes them out of consideration. Also they racked up a ton of penalties that I think most teams on this list would capitalize on.

Out of the 15 penalties I believe 11 were holding (judgement calls) and one illegal chop block that never happened. I will also add that on the flip side not many teams can have 15 penalties for over 200 yards and still win by a lot in a championship game. For some reason people like to point the penalties in the state game but, never reference the semi's were I think only five flags were thrown for both teams in the entire game. I also do not recall flags being thrown in the St. Rita Qtr final game either. As I stated before, I personally know that there was some issues (kids that weren't really good) with that team so I am reluctant to put that stamp on it. On the flip side, that is probably true for most high school teams. What I can assure you is most teams put together their best game plan which wasn't enough as some will suggest on this site. (Referencing the comment about all a team has to do is put together a game plan to negate talent).

No interest. We will let him off interest free. Bones it would be smart to get in now. We can give you a stadium seat on the 50th and a parking spot. Parking will be limited due to construction of the new wing.

03 COM might be the most talented team I ever saw, their execution of the playbook, paired with elite talent, was insane. That said, 98 WWS or OToole's WWS, plus some of those Perez teams, were ridiculous.

Cary Grove would of beat Naz

I'm not banging Naz's drum ITT, but they'd have shut CG down. As mentioned, Naz dominated all the match-ups on paper, and proved undefeated when that was the case in 2014.

I'll say they were one of the best non-top class(es) team's of all time (6A [contemporary] and lower).

Just out of curiosity, did you see any of those JC teams play? I watched all of those teams as well as seeing Naz three times last year and I agree with Dean. As stated earlier, Naz squeaked by JC last year and that JCA team was about the tenth best JC team in the last 15 years. The 99-01 JC teams all finished the year ranked in the top 15 in the country and many people believe the 04 & 07 teams may have been better.

Naz had a great team last year, but to laugh at the mention that those JC teams would beat them is ignorant.

All teams squeak out wins. i.e. JCA vs. Morris. The 2001 team even had a loss and a squeaker vs. CoM. So as pointed out above can't be in the discussion and neither can 2007 team.

I agree with you.....TPF feels that is laughable that those JC teams could beat last year's Naz team. That is where I have the issue. I find it laughable that he thinks it's laughable.;)

@TPF523 Football did exist, and has, at times, been played at a high level in Illinois prior to Naz2014.

I'm laughing at Dean trying to induce an argument. Everyone's whole basis is Nazareth playing a close gene against JCA last year. Oy vey! As mentioned all of those teams played close games sometimes kids don't play to their capabilities every week. That was the worst Naz had looked. Credit to JCA they hit with em and didn't back down but maybe, just maybe that game shouldn't have been that close? Naz out gained JCA about 2-1 and had 200 yards in penalties. I'd be happy to go through all of those teams if you'd like but I would bet 2014 Naz would beat at least half of them.

While those teams were very very good so was Naz. I am not laughing at the notion of any of them being competitive/beating any other team but more laughing at Dean coming up with another random list of teams he thinks would beat 2014 Naz. He obviously thinks Naz wasn't very good last year and that he's going to get a rise out of Naz people/apologists. So I laughed...

I think the 98 WWS team would have beaten the 98 MC team. Saw both of their championship games, and I just think the O-line for WWS would have made the difference. All JMO of course, and means nothing.

A strong argument can be made that Naz, although very good, was not the best team in Illinois in 2014 much less one of the best teams in the last 20 years. Edgy had them as Number 3 in the state in 2014.

Naz would have beaten any team in the state last year. The offense was amazing at both smash mouth and spreading to athletes. But the defense was lights out! Corners and Safeties were shut down. The D Line were big and fast. The LB's were flat out dominant.

2014 Naz team was good. But they couldn't hang with the previous 4 champs before them in 6A. That class struggled last year. But they were deserving last year.

And yet they needed to block a fg to beat a very mediocre JCA team. I watched JC play both Naz and Providence. Based on what I observed Providence was a better team last year than Naz.

Your logic makes sense. I am definitely a Miles Boykin fan! JCA is always tough no matter what kind of year they are having.

Yawn, we've already beat this topic to death.

I had a chance to watch the WWS vs. DGN playoff game in '98. That WWS team is, to this day, the best high school football team I've ever seen in person.
