No question that ESL team was a force. They were loaded pretty much everywhere. But I think having the one loss takes them out of consideration. Also they racked up a ton of penalties that I think most teams on this list would capitalize on.
Out of the 15 penalties I believe 11 were holding (judgement calls) and one illegal chop block that never happened. I will also add that on the flip side not many teams can have 15 penalties for over 200 yards and still win by a lot in a championship game. For some reason people like to point the penalties in the state game but, never reference the semi's were I think only five flags were thrown for both teams in the entire game. I also do not recall flags being thrown in the St. Rita Qtr final game either. As I stated before, I personally know that there was some issues (kids that weren't really good) with that team so I am reluctant to put that stamp on it. On the flip side, that is probably true for most high school teams. What I can assure you is most teams put together their best game plan which wasn't enough as some will suggest on this site. (Referencing the comment about all a team has to do is put together a game plan to negate talent).
