Name a team in each region who didn't make the playoffs last year that you expect to break into the postseason this year.

A - Churchland - tough pick in this region as 4A East had 3-7 Denbigh and 4-6 KF make the playoffs last year, leaving 5 2-8 or worse teams to choose from. I choose my man Devils and the Truckers. The school has produced a few NFL players and some new blood leading the charge might be enough to sneak them into a 7 or 8 seed.

B - Caroline - some people may find this pick surprising. PH-Ashland dropping down would be the obvious pick. I chose the Cavaliers after seeing them at the JM 7v7 in May. They are bigger, fast and stronger than I've ever seen them. They went unbeaten in pool play at JM and we knocked them off in the semifinals of the tournament. They have some confidence IMO. Not sure who they have OOD, but if they get a couple early season wins to grab momentum, lookout Battlefield.

C - Sherando - Hammy says their still a year away from being special. With that schedule and the fact they missed the playoffs last year, I'm going to go out on a limb and say they'll be playing with a chip on the old shoulder and be running through people for much of the season. No stretch for them to miss the playoff last year and bounce back to win their region this year.

D - EC Glass - Woody and company were on fire out of the gates last season but hit a wall late, as can happen in the Seminole. Returning 19 of 22 starters from a 6-4 team makes this an easy choice IMO. Brookville and Heritage are the key games, rivals that they've struggled against recently. If they can knock off one of those teams, 7-8 wins is likely.

Some solid picks Oneman and well thought out. I like the Caroline pick, because they have taken their licks the last three years. Their OOD schedule has been brutal and deserves some props. Not sure if any 4a team plays in a tough district like the Battlefield and schedules OOD opponents like Caroline has. 2014 (Dinwiddie, Glen Allen, and Henrico) 2015 and 2016 (Dinwiddie, PH-Ashland, and Monacan). This season they did not shy away from competition either (PH Ashland, Jr. Tucker and Powhatan). Not sure they will get the job done, but will be prepared if they make the playoffs.

Sherando is a lock in my opinion. Their offense is going to be awesome. Defense just needs to step up.

EC Glass is an up and comer, but their district obviously takes a toll on teams late in the season. It would be nice to see them make a comeback as they were a power house in my younger days.

Churchland is a nice sentimental pick as we all know Devils is the new AD for the Truckers. If he can bring some of that Titan magic and fight to the program who knows. I know Kings Fork made the playoffs last year, but in my mind they could very well shock the world and win region a.

I look looked through the Regions and I was hard pressed to find any other teams more likely to be new to the playoffs.

Caroline is hard for me to believe, but that's as good a bet as any of the others. Maybe Hanover, simply because it's hard to believe they will stay down as bad as they were for another year.

Churchland may be the sentimental favorite, but I'm guessing maybe Great Bridge.

I'm with DP on this one. Caroline didn't belong on the same field with is last year. You'd have to show me a schedule full of richmond city schools on the schedule or fluvanna's for me to think they have any path to the playoffs and even then I'm not sure.

They beat King George and Spotsylvinia last season. I can only find seven of their opponents for 2017, but the path forward looks as equally tough as last season. At this point I see two wins, maybe sneak up on somebody for a third win.

I'm glad we moved on from scheduling them OOD. I think the final score last season against Dinwiddie was 70-0. Nobody wins in a game like that.

But, who are the other schools that may make the playoffs this season, that did not last season, in Region B?
Hanover, I stated my opinion above.
Midlothian?
PH-A, a shoo-in for the C4 playoffs
Huguenot, maybe, but they need more that just a new school.
Chancellor made the playoffs last year, didn't they?

DP the problem with our region is there are literally no 4A teams. We couldn't even string together a conference on 4a teams in the Richmond area if we wanted to.

The best Huguenot could do is like 6 wins, probably will lose to Mon, Man, Bird and if they are lucky they will beat either JR or Cosby but I doubt it. I didn't even look at their OOD schedule. Midlothian doesn't have a realistic chance of a winning record in my opinion. I really think it is the same old same old in our group. Its hard to pick a sleeper when there is only like 5 teams in 4A in the entire greater 804 area.

Powhatan, Dinwiddie, Hanover, Monacan, Huguenot, and Midlothian are all 4a conference 20 members (Metro Richmond Area). Add PH-Ashland to the mix and you have seven. We will still have to knock heads with the current conference 19 members for the regional playoffs, so its really nd then likely play the winner of the tidewater region in the semis.

You are right bmonap1 not likely going to be any suprises in our region.

PH Ashland will be a force. I've stated many times that Hunter Hart is the real deal. Add in Wake Forest commit Kaleb Smith and your D Coordinator has 2 really elite players to get grey hairs about.

Even though he plays at PH Hunter Hart fits the mold of hard running Hanover County quaterbacks Sam Rogers and Cheatham. PH has the offensive skill players. With a new coach I am curious to see what scheme they utilize. Defensively, they give up too many points, so time will tell.

Thanks DSH for the fair synopsis of GW Danville. Wish them the best.

Chancellor is going to struggle this year. 24 players graduated and after the coaching change several players transferred. I know they lost their projected starting QB, Armstead who was a 1,000 rusher and another key player went to riverbend.
