Suddenly some optimism Law’s take on Hendrick might have traction. Still seems like a long shot, but who knows.

Tonight is 1st round only. If we’re going to lose Ginn, Westburg and Foscue, they might as well go tonight. Nationals are a team to watch with Ginn.

Should be rather college heavy tonight. Some familiar names should go early: Lacy from A&M, Hancock from UGA, Kjerstadt from Ark, etc.

You have to give Lemonis a lot of credit for Foscue. That position change in the middle of the season last year probably ended up making Foscue a couple million dollars richer today. A guy who has his bat and is a proven glove at second base is extremely valuable.

Foscue may be one of the more under appreciated players we’ve had in recent memory. Had a great year last year and was having a great year this year before COVID hit yet he rarely got much spotlight. Was always one of our most consistent hitters though.

Happy to see him get life changing money like this, I think he’s got a chance to have a very good pro career.

Good for him. 1st time we’ve had two 1st rounders since Thunder and Lightning, I believe.

Good write up on Foscue from the main message board for the Rangers. Reaction is mixed, but they have drafted a lot of raw toolsy types over the years. Last year they took Josh Jung from Texas Tech and now Foscue. I like both, because those toolsy guys have all been rather disappointing.

Looks like Foscue was going to be early 2nd Rd or late first, but the Rangers did not want to miss out. The current 2nd baseman has a quick right cross, but a 4-1 strikeout to bb ratio for his career. I think they fell in love with a bat with good pop that has more walks than K's in the SEC.

Really excited for those guys, but I can’t help but feel cheated out of getting to watch them more in the maroon and white. Fescue was going to be a monster. Time to reload.

Ain't this the truth. Second coming of T&L. Louisville had 2 first round pitchers, so they probably got cheated even more than us.

What are y’all’s guesses on Ginn and Jordan at this point? I say Ginn returns, and Jordan is 55/45 in favor of State. Both will get every opportunity in the world to prove that their 1st round picks next year at MSU

Co-worker just said Ginn is expected to go early today. I just don't see it, but that's what she's hearing.

Ginn was the either the 1sr or 2nd best available per mlbnetwork at the end of the supplemental round last night. He was 2 with 2 picks to go but couldn’t remember if one of those last were ahead of them. Which doesn’t exactly mean everything as the BoSox used their first round pick on like the #137th ranked player While only having 4 picks total.

Even if Ginn is the first pick today, it would be 7-8 slots lower than he was picked 2 years ago. And, he’d be getting delayed compensation for his signing bonus for the majority of it, as opposed to immediate compensation if he gets picked after a return to normal MLB revenues. I don’t see the incentive for him to leave, nor do I see the incentive for any MLB team to take him unless he has guaranteed them that he’ll take way less than he already turned down in 2018 (which wouldn’t make much sense).

Those ratings are more or less just based on talent level. They don’t account for signability or injuries, which are impossible to quantify but will obviously affect any team’s decision. Everybody agrees Ginn is a Top 10-20 talent, but neither of those other things favor Ginn being picked any time soon. He’s not even throwing a baseball yet, and he’s already turned down $1.5-$2 million before.

That makes a lot more sense then. If I'm a GM and there's only 5 rounds, I just don't see taking that chance.

I'm guessing if Ginn goes early in the 2nd, he'll sign. He's probably not going to pitch next year until March or April, and even then it will likely be in relief. I don't know how much he can really prove at DNF in 2021.

It’s a Catch-22 though....from Ginn’s perspective, at this point a team needs to go way over slot to make it worth it for him to go pro (especially considering the deferred compensation structure), based on what he’s already turned down. From any MLB team’s perspective, to justify the early pick in a short draft he needs to agree to sign for way under slot to account for the injury risk. There’s no way for those sides to logically meet in the middle unless one of the sides caves and uses extremely poor judgment.

Eventually, he needs to pitch if he wants to justify his decision to not go pro out of high school. Even if he only pitches 30-40 innings in long relief, he’ll show plenty to scouts about how far he’s come in his recovery. And even if it takes him longer to recover, he even has another leverage year in 2022 that he’ll be able to use if he wants, thanks to the pandemic. He still has a lot of options on the table and there’s no reason at all for him to take just any offer he gets.

Ginn will be 100% by next season, probably sooner.

My two cents - State is in a good spot here. The team’s most likely to take a chance with Ginn is a team that has a loaded roster already. Someone like the Nationals could take a chance on him, because if he winds up staying hurt, their rotation will be fine in a 2-3 years. But, those teams typically draft towards the end of the rounds.

But, as you all know, it only takes one team. If a team feels he’s truly a Top 10-15 talent, and they can take a shot at him in 2nd round, they’d have to ecstatic. The thing to look out for are the teams that seemingly “reached” for a player in 1st round, because a lot of times they do that because they know that player will sign under slot value. Which will allow them to go over slot in 2nd or 3rd rounds. Where a player like Ginn, who is uber-talented, often drops. That’s a small sample size though, and Ginn isn’t the only elite arm left. Wilcox from Georgia and a big time high school arm that throws 100 are available, too.

In general, I think if Ginn is drafted at all he will be gone, because any team that picks him is probably going to want assurance beforehand that he will, without question, sign for X amount. With a 5-round draft and a guy fresh off TJ surgery, there is no other way to approach it.

Except that he didn't have TJ surgery.

Why did you think you needed to take the time to explain to me what “best available” means? So it’s more or less based on talent? Reckon? Hence naming the list “Best Available” instead of “best value available ”, or “less risky”, or “most likely to be drafted next.”

I think when a guy feels the need to “man-splain” to another guy I’m going to term that “Going Budaw.”

Weird melt. Just was saying don’t expect him to necessarily be right off the board today. Carry on.

Sorry Bru, don’t know where you got your info from, but yes. He did have Tommy John.

He had two procedures. TJ and a nerve adjustment.

Yep, that's right on with what the guy on ED said that is very close with the family. Not only that but Chris Lemonis has been pretty candid in every interview that if JT comes back next year we will have to take it very slow with him.

I'll be ready for you when he's ready to roll well before the 2021 season. Sometimes it's best not to trust media links and just go with the people who might know something.

Got it. This was all an elaborate plan by the Ginns to tank their son’s draft stock out of the first round, because that’s a smart idea that benefits everyone***

I believe the slot values for the 5 rounds are very close to where they were last year for the first 5 rounds. After that it’s a $20,000 cap for any player not drafted.
