Interesting to bring Seranthony in for the 8th inning. The way he pitched in the 4th game of the NLDS on Sunday, I'd save him for the 9th inning. I guess closer by committee is still the policy.

I just accept that this guy is on a roll and every decision he makes turns out right. I don’t know what would have happened with Wheeler going further but I now know what happened with Seranthony and Alvarado.

Just sit back and enjoy it.

When a team goes on a run through the playoffs, it often seems like the manager/head coach is pushing ALL of the right buttons. That is how it looks right now for Rob Thomson. From resting Wheeler for a couple of weeks to the pitching and lineup decisions he has made, EVERYTHING is coming up roses for him. The Padres went on quite a run themselves, including their domination of the Dodgers, so this series is far from over, but it seems like Thomson can do no wrong right now. I had never even heard of the dude, and was wondering if he was the former S.F. Giants second baseman, but that is clearly not the case. Different resume and different spelling of his surname.

I'm STILL trying to process the fact that the Dodgers, Braves and Mets are ALL sitting on the sidelines at this point.

geez. The fear always with Alvarado is control. So he walks the 2nd batter on 4 pitchers. The nexts guy hits a chopper that Bohm fields cleanly but because of the shift the SS and 2nd baseman were out of position, and Bohm's throw to Stott is an error. smh. 1st & 2nd with 1 out and Machado at the plate.
Topper said postgame that the umpire was blocking Bohm's view and didn't see Stott going to the bag. So Bohm was actually throwing it to Segura. A little strange. But, also said Stott should have caught the ball.

After the 7th, I thought it was a big mistake to pull Wheeler. Obviously, it worked out. Relievers are much better starting an inning clean. Wheeler may be needed to pitch in 2 more games this series, so keeping pitch count low in this one (and win!) may be huge.

I’ve watched it a couple of times over and I have no idea if the explanation made sense. The shift certainly screwed up infield position and I’m not sure about the ump creating interference with what Bohm saw.

They need to clean it up. If Segura was shifted as well, then Bohm has to realize the impact. If he was throwing to Segura, it looked to me that Segura wasn’t even close to the bag. At times, these guys throw it on the bag and let it go from there. But you can’t do that when Segura might have been shifted as well. A discussion will be had.

I think the critical point there is that you HAVE to get an out. The DP is wonderful and keeps Manny from getting a chance but I’d much prefer having Manny with only a chance to tie instead of the alternative. I think that is what Thomson was basically saying as well.

But Alvarado made his pitches to Manny and came up huge.

Let’s get a stranglehold on this today!

Wheeler said himself it was time for the bullpen. His velocity was down 3mph in that 7th inning. Like you said, much rather have Dominguez start the inning. If Wheeler gives up a lead off hit in the 8th, he's out of the game anyway.

The Phillies are second best odds to win the WS now at +250. Congrats to those who put down a decent chunk on them before the wild card series. I just put my fanduel credits all in on it considering it was house money anyway. Nice 💰 if it happens. Either way this has been crazy fun. Keep it going!

just a heads up, I'm pretty much going to miss the entire game today. Something on my calendar that I just could not reschedule. I have faith that you guys will do well in the thread during the game. Go Fightins

Between vacations and "somethings" on your calendar we are getting worried about missing all the games... ;)

Think Tom might be a little geeked up these days? This has got to be one of the better Octobers in Philly sports history. The Phils are three wins short of the World Series, and the Birds are undefeated. Just crazy ...

I only just now saw a video of Schwarber’s home run. Reminded me of Reggie Jackson’s, that.

A little geeked up? That’s like saying I’m a little deaf.

I'm starting to think the Phillies are going to the World Series guys. I know, I know, but I'm freaking out over here.

I certainly hope the score holds up. But regardless of today's outcome, it'll be nuts at CBP this weekend. Even more so if the Phils come home up 2-0. I'm jealous of any of you who may be at those games.

That Fox production crew loves to play the Grateful Dead between innings. Interesting choice (not that I'm opposed).

That pitch to JT wasn't a strike but to be fair both pitchers have been getting the call just off the left side of the plate.
