a likable guy, and a good fielder. He's had some timely hits with the Phils during his time in Philadelphia, but I think his BA was around .200. Stott has been a pleasant surprise this year, so between Segura's return, the addition of Sosa last week, and all the other roster moves, there probably wasn't a lot of starting time available for Didi. And if he wasn't starting, his bat didn't warrant a place on the bench as a pinch hitter.

Yeah, Stott has to keep playing. Didi's time is up. I'm all for that move.

Believe that's the final "Girardi piece" if you will to go, as well. He seemed like a great guy but was almost an automatic out.
From a player perspective perhaps, but the hitting coach, Kevin Long, is close with Girardi, no? Seem to remember something to that effect.

Syndegaard has given up 11 hits in 5 innings. Phillies still up 5-3 and rain headed in. Get to the bottom of the fifth!!

I was enjoying this Jeter documentary until they got to the 2009 season. J-Roll's time on camera is good though.

I bet the Phillies tonight -0.5 run in the first five innings. Even thought the Nationals had 15 outs, I'm pretty sure I end up losing this bet because the Phillies didn't bat in the bottom of the fifth. Brutal...

Not an encouraging debut for Thor. Very hittable by a weak lineup.
Agree. It's a sample of one, but there are more questions than there were before his debut. The Bank is a hitter's park too. One wonders how that factors into his future performance.

I would give him another few starts before judging. This was just his 2nd start since July 12th. He admitted he was rusty and tense in his first start for the Phils.

Apple TV tonight. !Groan!

The chick doing the pre-game talked about the Dodgers honoring long time broadcaster "Vin Schoolie".

Mute the TV; listen to Scott and (hopefully) LA tonight.

Try this.

You'll need an Apple ID. Doesn't cost anything tonight. Eventually it will.

The Nats have gone from World Serirs Champions to an MLB embarrassment in less than 3 years. Not complaining though this weekend....
I was just texting about this with family. Playing so many games vs the Nats is a big advantage for the Phillies. If they hold the big lead tonight, they have Nola for a four game sweep tomorrow.

They wouldn’t realistically sweep many teams with a pulse over four games. These Nats are utterly checked out. They’re planning tee times in October and making family vacation plans.

Dave Martinez must have had a field day with that kid who saw his home run turn into a single when it went off the fence, Davey is a guy who scrapped to have a decent career and I can’t imagine how that one went after the game. Dumba$s.

He’s not a kid he played in the Phillies system in 2018 and put up great numbers. He just made his debut at age 30 after 10 years in the minors.

Replacing a .240 batter with a .239 batter.
Marsh is a former top 10 prospect in the whole sport, he can’t hit much yet but they traded for him because he’s under cheap team control for 5 more years with an elite glove which they need because they play DH’s in every corner. Basically they committed to keeping CF cheap for the next half decade so they can spend big at SS this off-season. Will be shocked if one of Trae Turner/bogaerts/Correa isn’t manning SS for the next few years with Stott sliding back to second.

Can we revise the schedule and just play the Nats for the rest of the season?

100 Agree. It seems almost certain that Turner is leaving LA to return to the East Coast. Plus, Harper loves Turner’s game. I can’t think of a guy who fits better into the Phillies lineup better than Turner as well.

from Saturday night's game:

During Hoskins' second at bat in the first inning I couldn't help but flashback to Von Hayes on June 11, 1985 when he became the first player in MLB history to hit two home runs in the first inning of the same game. I didn't see the telecast so maybe the fact was mentioned on air.

Turner isn’t the best defensive shortstop but he is so damn good offensively. Philly would have the best lineup outside of San Diego if he came.

Yeah I mentioned that the following day I think. The more I read about him, the more I liked it.

today's TV broadcast has been a joy to listen to. It's alumni weekend, and today they brought back a lot of alums and put a special emphasis on the 1980 World Series team. So throughout the broadcast, they've had a number of players from that team telling stories, conversing, etc.

So far they've had (and I'm probably forgetting a few):

- Steve Carlton
- Bob Boone
- Larry Bowa
- Del Unser
- Greg Gross
- Larry Christensen
- Greg Lusinski
- Pete Rose
- Reuben Amaro (was the bat boy that season)

Mike Schmidt tested positive for COVID this morning, so he had to miss the festivities.

And the Phils are up 7-1 in the bottom of the 7th. Nola was probably stunned with all the run support he's gotten.

I,was flipping through the dial and saw that. Suffice to say Pete Rose has no filter.
