Getting back to Rhule's comments..... I saw somewhere that Caleb Williams, with his NIL makes $5MM per year. He makes more than 15 of 16 head coaches at USC. All sports. Apparently he makes more than a good portion of the players on the LA area professional sports teams.

I think if Rhule can get a QB for $1MM that really might be a bargain - or, you get what you pay for.

(And yes, I know the kind of season USC had).

I imagine that if the USC coaches were doing the number of Nissan (Heisman House) and Dr. Pepper commercials that he does, they would make a lot more.

Williams has deals with Sony, Fanatics, Neutrogena, Dr. Pepper, and Nissan among others. I'm reasonably sure those contracts are portable and not contingent on him remaining at USC.

Just when I think college football coaches make way too much, transfer portal season opens and I realize they probably make $15 per hour given their time vs salary.
I know you were being TIC, but if they worked non-stop, 24/7/365, many of them- including the guy at PSU - would be making ~$1,000 per hour :). But they would be very tired at the end of the year.

Yep

ie: A coach (like Rhule) doesn't "need $1-2 million" to get a QB.

Those few guys that are actually making anywhere near the level of coin that the basement sports bloggers like to throw out there, are generally doing so because of who they are, and the deals they (and their agents) make.

Of course, many of the "student-athletes" actually making big bankable "NIL coin" (as opposed to those who are just being given a check) are doing so more by serving as soft-core porn actresses - or because of a family name, than anything they do on the field or court. But that's a whole 'nother story.

Another QB. Ward was good when not under pressure this season. Not so much when pressured.

I am sure they are. But he IS at USC now, and he is making more than most of the coaches on campus, and more than a fairly large percentage of the professional athletes in the LA area. It's just wild.

PSU recruited this guy pretty hard when he was in HS

He was a Penn State committ at one point. If Theo Johnson and Tyler Warren both declare for the draft, we could use him.

I can't believe how many WRs are in the portal that all seem like an immediate upgrade for us. Here's hoping.

I'll be interested to see if OSU takes a portal QB after McCord didn't exactly set the world on fire this season. I'm hoping they stick with McCord and he gets worse.

I was, but it did give me a greater appreciation for their workload. I would lose my mind.

He's making money to flog products, not play football. None of those companies are signing up the Angels' third string catcher or USC's men's water polo coach to do commercials.

True but their best one. Plus what does it say about the situation there? I’m assuming Deion was going to go after any lineman he could get in the portal but this doesn’t look great either.
But is that like saying he is the tallest midget?

Money is money. No matter how you earn it.
