2023 PSU MVB Thread

This is a late post but I made it to see the match Saturday afternoon at Harvard. Harvard put up a good fight in the second set losing 29-27 but they never had a set point. It never really felt like PSU was threatened during the match.

It was fun to watch such high level volleyball from five or six rows back in the stands. I'm pretty sure there was one quick set to the outside hitter that was actually on a slight downward trajectory. It's crazy that the set was coming from that high. Overall, there were a lot of missed serves. In three sets, PSU missed 19 serves and Harvard missed 14. PSU had 11 service aces (3 for Harvard). Get the points were you can get 'em. Ezeonu served great with 4 aces and 2 service errors.

This is a "get off my lawn"/"old man" thing but the Harvard bench players did a lot of yapping/heckling when PSU served. The gym got pretty quiet with each serve and the yelling was very noticeable. I thought it was pretty poor sportsmanship. The PSU players, on the other hand, just ignored it.

Stopped in at Mr. Bartley's Burgers after the match and it was a beautiful afternoon in Harvard Square. All in all, not a bad day.

Should've scooted the other direction off The Yard and gone to Alden & Harlow on Brattle St. for a better burger.

Now we wait to see if we get one of the top two seeds for the NCAAs. Just checking the RPI I see we are #2 behind UCLA but ahead of Hawai’i. Hopefully that stays the order and we can get the extra bye but I’d feel better if UCLA or Hawai’i loses tonight.

How many b1g schools have a men’s volleyball program?

Only PSU and Ohio St.

With UCLA and USC on the way. There would need to be more schools with programs before it could be a conference sport. Even after adding the CA schools to the B1G, I expect we would still be in the EIVA and UCLA/USC will stay where they are now.

UCLA and Hawaii both won last night.

Yeah, we ended up getting the 3 seed in the tournament which means an extra game. That loss to tOSU hurt as we were cruising for a #1 or 2 seed prior to that.

The NCAA Men's Volleyball Committee announced their 2023 championship selections on Sunday, with the first round set to begin on April 30.
