Riley Stack commits to Coastal, not a surprise to anyone paying attention. Major schools dropped out fairly quickly. Hope she has a very successful career.

Saw on The Boneyard that Chloe Kitts is announcing her top 6 today at noon.
Her dad is a coach, we probably don’t need to hire her dad to get her to come to USC, but it’s a possible way to get her. I don’t think she is good as “Stewy” (but has that look) was for UConn but 50% as good is ok. I have not seen her play.

Has anyone in the upstate seen the 6'4" center from Greenville High? J'adore Young? The Greenville News states, "As a junior, Young led the Red Raiders in points, rebounds and blocks. The 6-foot-4 center averaged 18.5 points, 13.9 rebounds, 6.7 blocks, 1.2 assists and 1.7 steals per game across 18 games"...seems like pretty good stats to me...

She only had one Power 5 offer, Ole Miss and she committed there....

Here is her offer list.....

offers from Ole Miss, Old Dominion, USC Upstate, UNC Greensboro, North Carolina A&T and Presbyterian College.

But you can’t coach 6’5”. She was 4A all state. Obviously she is a project and everybody has to have a post player to compete.

Dawn offered Morgan Cheli from San Jose, CA...She's a 6'2" guard and the #28 ranked player in the US in ESPN Gurlz Hoops 2024 ranking...

Here is the link. DS has been quite active in offers to the 24 class. I believe we have already offered 10-12 in the top 40 of Hoopgurlz. I like that Cheli has national team experience

No Intel but I bet it comes down to us and Tenn.

Read on Tenn board where Madison Booker has visited them 4 times. Anyone know if she has done a visit to SC yet?
I’m a bit anxious about next year’s class. We need to 4-5 and a big is imperative IMO.
As far as I know We are in the finals for
Juju Watkins
Aalyah Del Rosario
Madison Booker
Malaysia Fulwiley
Chloe Kitts
Sahnya Yah

With Aalyah Del Rosario naming her top 7, my guess is it will come down to us and UT (Vols)

Any combination of those 4 or 5 would give us the top ranked class...Del Rosario is the MUST get...

Hey Gamecock WBB fans, enough of the trolls on other threads. This season will be DS’s 15th year. In response later today I will be dropping a thread here and on the main board “15 for 15, the best players of the Dawn Staley era”
I am hoping the main board thread will attract eyes and trolls and that the serious will respond on this thread. It will be rather long

So it’s the 15th season coming up for Coach Staley. I am proposing an all time roster for those years. I am sure there is disagreement... make your case!

Here is a link to ALL WBB STATS

The bottom 3 would be higher but they only played one season with us. A look at their total careers shows their talent and value.

T’ea Cooper probably falls into this category BUT HELL NO! Not rewarding a team cancer

15. Kaela Davis averaged 13 pts and 4 reb. per game and was named SEC Tourney MVP. Above average defender and very good but very streaky 3 pt shooter. If she got hot we were unstoppable on offense.

14. Alisha Grey
Extraordinarily heady player. Knew the game and more importantly knew what the team needed from her in every situation. 13pts. 5 reb. and 2.5 assists per game. Shot 51% from the field and was an excellent defender.

13. Kelsey Bone

SEC Freshman of the year. Averaged 14 and 9 in her one season. Left because of conflicts with DS and became All American at TAMU

12.Victaria Saxton

Momma Saxton

Leader, Athlete, Rebounder, Shot Blocker, FOUR YEAR CAPTAIN of the team. Will be Career leader in games played and in picks set🤣Could very possibly be 1,000 point scorer. Team glue, no ego, high performance, low maintenance

11. ieasia Walker

Four year starter. # 30 all time scorer. Over 1,100 points Extraordinary defender, # 5 in career steals. Very good rebounder for a guard. Helped usher the team into it’s NCAA Tourney streak

10. Kiki Herbert Harrington

Hard for me to know where to place her on this list. So athletic yet it took her time to put it all together. A good junior year But OMG her senior year ....13ppg 50% from the field 40% from 3 and 80% from the line. Rebounded, swatted shots with toughness and just a little bit of attitude.

9. La’Keisha Sutton

Scored 1,299 career points. #22 on the career scoring list. She was in DS’s first recruiting class. Played 3 years for undermanned teams. Good defender. Forgotten player that deserves a spot.

8. Destanni Henderson
Unmatched speed and quickness with a great handle. A one person fast break and a very good three pt shooter. 1K scorer and on the all time assists list. Unselfish leader

7. Zia Cooke
Four year starter. Amazing athlete. Will be a top 10 scorer. Intense, streaky. Could move up or down depending on Sr year

6. Ty Harris
Four year starter, team captain. Led the symphony her freshman year and got better and better. An almost flawless Sr year except for the Indiana loss. 19th in career points and #1 in career assists

5. Alaina Coates
Almost gets lost because of Wilson and Boston but make no mistake she is the beast of the post players in the program. Unmoveable in the paint on O and D.
#11 all time in points
#2 all time in rebounds
#1 all time in defensive rebounds
#4 all time blocked shots.
2X All SEC and All SEC D.
SEC 6th POY
SEC FOY

4. Aleigsha Welch
Powerful, Relentless and Intense. IMO More Heart than any other player in the Staley era. Six footer who played post against taller players EVERY night. 1st team All American Top 10 career rebounder. Career leader in offensive rebounds. #17 career scorer.

3. Tiffany Mitchell
2X 1st team All American, 2X SEC POY, SEC All defensive team. 6th all time leading scorer. 5th in career steals. 6th in 3 pointers made. 2nd in 3 pt shooting %. Great defender, shooter and leader.

2. A’ja Wilson
Leading scorer, NPOY, 2X SEC POY & DPOY, Top 5 rebounder, top shot blocker and on and on.

1. Aliyah Boston
You know it all already. Will finish as top 5 scorer. Leading rebounder in every category. Top 5 blocks. All American,NPOY, SEC POY, 3X SEC DPOY, 3X Lisa Leslie award winner.

Alaina Coates is the recruit that really started the trajectory upward...We had not had a Center like her since Kelsey Bone...

When Coates committed I knew that she would be the game changer and SHE WAS...

Dawn said after her freshman year that we could have won 8-10 more games the prior year if we had Alaina...which obviously means we won 8-10 more games having her 6'4" height in the middle...seems like one of the male coaches, can't remember if it was the UK, MSU or Arky coach who said he will be glad for her to graduate...she was just that tough...

Coates, Boston, & Wilson are the reason we are POST University in women's basketball....BRING ON DEL ROSARIO and continue the tradition....

Coates did indeed change the team with her height and size. Interestingly she was only rated the #32 prospect nationally and did not start as a Fr. As you said with her we were no longer always undersized

I disagree with you that she was the the recruit that turned the corner for us. Kelsey Bone coming served notice DS could recruit. But Aleigsha Welch was the key recruit. Though ranked #88 she became the heart and soul of the team from her freshman year for four years. Her intensity and heart set the DNA for this program to this day

Just one example....Against Stanford her Fr year in the sweet 16 in 2012 tournament she started at center, all 6’0 of her. Stanford played 5 players over 6’5”. Welch grabbed 16 rebounds and kept a good Carolina team 25-8 in the game single handedly. She battled and bullied them all game long. It was not enough but it set a tone for the whole program

Bone’s issues were homesickness and she was out of shape. She thought DS was too hard on her. Gary Blair told her the same thing, she lost 40 lbs, was a model citizen and an All American. Even publicly took some responsibility. She played hard here and did not poison the locker room.
T’ea on the other hand poisoned 3 locker rooms, beat the crap out of a teammate at UT, got suspended here. To this day DS refuses to talk about her.

Every team has moments during the season where it all works. These moments can be transcendent BUT are always fleeting. Here is my list of our 4 best quarter last season in chronological order. All were against excellent teams and can be viewed on YouTube with a little effort. Choose your favorite or suggest another.

1. Fourth quarter vs UCONN in the Battle for Atlantis final in the Bahamas. The quarter starts with us leading 57-54 in a tight back and forth game. We play good offense 6-14fg 2-2ft 2-4 from 3pt and out score them 16-3. The defense however just literally throttled UCONN. We forced 7 turnovers including 3 steals and limited them to 1-10 shooting. Their worst quarter of the season, we will hear about their second worst quarter later. Final 73-57

2. At home Third quarter vs Stanford. Their high post offense cut us to ribbons in the first half and we trail by 14, 42-28. They hit a 3 pointer to start the quarter, their bench explodes in celebration and we are down 17!! Cooke hits a jumper at the 8:40 mark to spark a 22-4 run. Henny goes insane with 4 steals in the quarter and Stanford just becomes unhinged on offense and lost on D. At the end of quarter we are up 50-49. Props to the fams that night, they never gave up on the team and the place was rocking all night long.

3. First quarter and into the second quarter at UGA. Kind of slow and sloppy start with the game tied at 6-6. Jenna Staiti picks up her 2nd foul. Then all hell breaks loose and it begins(cue up the disco) IT’S RAINING THREES! In the last 5:30 of the quarter we go on a 23-4 run 3-3 from 3 to lead 29-10. But it doesn’t stop there. With Henny, Lele, Rivers, Feagin and Bree Hall starting the second quarter, we rip off an 11-1 run in the first 4 minutes to lead 41-11. A 9:30 stretch of playing time that we dominate 35-5.

4. First quarter National Championship Game VS UCONN. As Ryan Ruoco would repeat and repeat, “It’s another Carolina offensive rebound.” 22-8. A physical beat down of a proud program. It continues into the second quarter to a 30-12 lead. Combined with the fourth quarter of the first game that is a 46-15 run on the Huskies.

Honorable mention
First quarter at UF 19-3. UF only made 1-4 fts 25% BUT the really stunning stat was shooting 6% from the field. That is not an error, they were 1-19.

Overall I think you have a pretty solid list. I didn't look through 15 years of rosters, but based off my general recollection this seems about right.

The one addition I would make is Brea Beal, her impact on the defense end has been unreal especially as she makes the opponents best. players in the backcourt non existent.

A few other changes I would make, is that Gray even in one season was worth moving up. She was a do everything guard and was big reason we have our first national championship. Honestly was gutted when left for the pros. Destanni is a player I wish I could move up higher, she only started for 2 years but she was killer from 3 and underrated for both her defense and her rebounding.

Ty had to be in my top 5, the best pure PG we ever had. She came in as freshman and took a talented team to national championship and as a senior she was on her way to do it again as the leader on our most balanced and probably our best team ever.
Coates is the first in what has become the University of Superior Centers, she was real problem for every other team that wasn't named UConn. The rest of this list was pretty much on the nose. I still have A'ja as number 1, they are basically neck and neck right now and with a great year Boston will likely overtake her. But I can't do that yet, just based on the impact she's had to program that led the way for people like Boston to want to come here.

We are very close.

I understand everyone wanting to move Gray up, but she was one and done. Wonderful player. I think the love for her stems from how fantastic she has done in the WNBA more than what she did here.

Bone should be on the list if for no other reason than she legitimized us nationally immediately in DS’s tenure. She was SEC FOY and averaged 14&9. She played hard but could not deal with the hard coaching she got from DS. The sad thing for us is Gary Blair told her the same damn things and coached her just as hard. As much as our fan base loves Gray they feel betrayed by Bone.

Beal is a wonderful player but has been a liability for 3 years on offense. She may be the only player to possibly be a three to four position lock down defender. But this list already has numerous lock down defenders. I included an all D team specifically to recognize her. She needs to be in the discussion but not on the 15.

Lastly, Harris, Coates and Welch are 4-6 no matter how you judge it. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder on this issue. I just happen to love Welch more for the reasons I stated.

Peace

Sorry, Winloseortie I would take one year of Alisha Gray over Kelsey Bone any day . Just basing this off of ability, attitude, being a team player, and hustle. Not a lazy or selfish Bone in her body. In that one year with us she left everything she had on the court. Sorry, but I don’t think we lost anything in the long run when Big Lazy transferred.

I wasn't trying to criticize your list, just putting my spin on it. Maybe I misunderstood, I thought we we're putting up our top 15 lists.

I really liked Welch and she was the first highly rated prospect to stay home. She was a true talent whose efforts wasn't properly shown in the box score. I had no issue with Bone leaving, I only disliked that she destroyed us when she played us lol. I thought she was a good talent but I just don't feel that connected to her with her time here.

As for Gray I was a fan of her since she was at UNC. She can flat out play and can hustle with the best of them. I still believe that outside of A'ja she is the key reason we were able to make the run to win that first title. Her WNBA career has little to do with it, honestly I think her talent is being wasted at Dallas as it is.

I still disagree on Beal, she may be the best perimeter defender in the Dawn Staley era and still stands out on Dawn's best defensive team. If you can defend as well as she does you can afford to not be offensively great. Her run in NCAA tournament is worth some consideration on its own for my list.

I didn’t take your response as criticism, I ALWAYS ENJOY YOUR THOUGHTS! I was just clarifying my thought process and engaging the discussion.

Clearly there is a lot of butthurt involving Bone. But try and put your anger aside for a minute.

Of the four one year players, Bone had the best season AND it was on the worst team. Without her, that team wins 5-8 games. She was not a problem on the court or in the locker room.
She clearly is one of the 15 best players in the Staley era. If you want Davis and Gray on the list you cannot omit Bone.

Everybody gets sunshiney about Gray and Davis because they were great players and they won a national championship. Everybody understands them leaving early and I do not begrudge them that. But let’s be truthful, their leaving early cost us another national championship. They made the best choice for themselves as did Bone

Thank you! Great memories!

Cardoso playing with her national team tonight. I hope we get to see some growth from her. I would love for her to be a little more aggressive and dominate like she can.
