Looks like we haven't. Just over four to go and margin way up there. This will be our most complete game against a pretty legitimate opponent in awhile.
Gamecocks advance to the Final Four with a 80-50 win over the Creighton Bluejays. Aliyah Boston led the Gamecocks with 19 pts on 7-9 shooting and 7 rebounds. That ends her SEC-record streak of double-double games at 27 games, the 5th longest single-season streak in NCAA history. Destanni Henderson added 12 pts on 5-9 shooting, and Brea Beal also added 12 pts on 5-9 shooting. Victaria Saxton picked up Boston's slack with a double-double of her own, with 11 pts on 3-6 shooting, and 11 rebounds.
Lauren Jensen led the Creighton Bluejays with 12 pts on 5-15 shooting, to be the only Bluejay player in double digits.
The Gamecocks shot 28-55 (.509), and held Creighton to 21-56 (.375) shooting for the game, and out-rebounded Creighton 43-23.
Bring on Louisville or Michigan......

Great win, everyone played their part and Saxton finally got a double double. Boston consecutive double double streak comes to an end, partially due to how well she and the team shot the ball. Personally I'm a little glad it ended because we now get to focus solely on the final four and a national title instead of a record. I hope this game is confidence booster as we head into the final four with us shooting a high rate, playing great defense and limiting turnovers.
The end of the double-double streak will unburden not only her, but also the team and the coach. That was a great team performance.
It was going to end early next season anyway when we play Alabama State or some other cupcake. Might as well end it now.

My takeaway is that UNCarolina and Miami were the 2nd and 3rd best teams in our region. No doubt. Give credit to the ACC; they were the best conference in the country this season. And we potentially could face two more ACC teams.
I know some of your posters on here loooove you some shooters, but we smothered them on the defensive end and pushed them around on the offensive end. And Creighton crushed Iowa on the boards! I think Iowa State or Iowa would have met a similar fate.
The Final Four opponent is going to be tougher, of course. But it should be fun. Remember when we used to take going to Omaha for granted? Enjoy this.

I think Michigan would be easier to beat than Louisville...so go big blue!!!
Another amazing stat. We matched Creighton's 3 point percentage. They made 7 out of 21. We made 3 out of 9. Both were 33.3 %. We only had 7 turnovers. Very clean game for us. So proud of our team.
If Louisville is as good as they appear to be, I think we'd better be focusing on them.
Well, there was some Iowa State focusing before we played UnCarolina, and seemingly nothing on Creighton.
As an aside, Creighton was one of those schools who helped fill in the 1971-72 MBB schedule when all ACC schools not named Clemron dropped us from their schedule (along with schools such as Niagara, St. Bonaventure, and Stetson).
Watch the game and focus on both.

Any excessive angst over Creighton would have been misplaced. They're like that St.Peter's bunch. They had a moment or two; ultimately they didn't belong. They were good for a few laughs.
Let's just remove it, then. ANY angst over Creighton... I regret ANY concern I might have had concerning them.
I'm sure Dawn is going to be glued to the tv tonight for the games....
I had a chance to watch the Louisville/Miami game in the SEC tournament. Wow! That was one of the most improbable comebacks I've ever seen. Miami was down 15 with less than 5 minutes to play. Louisville was firmly in control and then fell apart. When Louisville tried to milk the clock a bit, they didn't have anyone who could score as the shot clock was winding down. They are their best in transition and shooting early in the shot clock. Our "energy players" off the bench -- Amihere, Lele, Hall and even Cardoso, who runs surprisingly well for her size-- will be important for us. Getting back on D is HUGE against Louisville. Make them score against our set defense.
Imagine how dominant this team would be with a shooter like Caitlin Clark, Bueckers, or Fudd to compliment Boston. Ahhh, I'm dreaming again.

Yes. She was living with her aunt in Massachusetts and everyone assumed she would got to UCONN. Even Dawn was shocked when she got the phone call that Aliyah was coming here. Geno was so confident that he and his staff were at a tournament when she committed. Except it was to us. They're still butt hurt.
This is from an ESPN article right after she committed
"The Huskies' presence on her home island the week she declined their scholarship offer could have made for an awkward experience, but Boston said coach Geno Auriemma was extremely gracious when she called him.
"He wished me the best," Boston said. "[McGraw and McGuff] were the same way."
I was thinking of Boston & Bueckers at UCONN.
Aliyah would be an asset to whatever school she attended.
Thank goodness she'll (Boston) be back next year....I'm starting to wonder if Saxton and Henderson will be back...

My gut tells me that Dawn encourages her troops to finish school first. Since the WNBA pays considerably less $$$ than the MNBA, I would think that it's even more important for them to earn their degrees.
No way Henny comes back. She’ll go high in the draft. I doubt Saxton will either. Going to miss them both.
They may make more money from NIL while in college than in the WNBA and other side jobs. I would think that playing in Russia league is out.
Why would Saxton not want to? Unless she goes high in the draft this year, why not? Jenn Staiti from UGA came back for the extra year...
I know that some don't agree, but I expect a Titanic struggle. I wish Stanford and UConn could go about four overtimes tonight.
Dawn might prefer her move on, truth be told. Amihere's been waiting her turn to start. Cardoso, Feagin and Watkins need to develop.
I say we win it. The alternative is too horrible to contemplate.
