I believe I was on Cockytalk at the time when I felt that way. I never was as harsh as many others were at the time but I was definitely disappointed. If after winning a title we still couldn't get a kid from Georgia and Arkansas to commit to us over the likes of UConn, then it felt like we would never be able to match schools like ND, UConn and Tennessee for pure talent.

There was a lot of talk following the 2018 recruiting class that Dawn could only recruit PGs and players from the Carolinas and the surrounding areas. Then 2019 happen and we get 4 players in the top 15 who are from areas we don't usually get talent from (Ohio, Indiana, Massachusetts, Canada) and the program went from being a tier below other programs in talent to being the complaint of too much talent on one team almost overnight.

Also the Uconn fans were so confident that Boston was going to them at the time, that I didn't even have her or my radar anymore. The finger pointing and angry debates they had in UConn following Boston choosing us in the weeks following was pure comedy. I will say that I think the recruitment of ONO had also effected Amihere decision to go to UConn as well. Especially given how Geno usually limits playing time to about 6 or maybe 7 players a season.
I thought I remembered reading that Geno lost interest in Amihere after her first knee injury.

I would think NC State would be a hotbed for transfers...to stay on the National Scene, they are going to need some transfers as they are losing out on top high school talent. If NCSU slips, UNC will be there to take their place at the top school in North Carolina for women's basketball...I would much rather see Duke or NCSU at the top than UNC...

I don't know how true that is and I doubt he or the program would ever openly admit to that if true. I do know that on some of the UConn forums I have lurked on over the years, there seem to be a pattern that some of their fans believe that if player cuts UConn from their list or doesn't choose them it's because Geno has rescinded their offer and never because they wanted to play elsewhere. What you heard could be 100% true but I don't believe it anymore because it's thrown around a lot on their site. If it is true, that was his loss. She has the versatility, length and athleticism that they could have used these pat couple of years and unlike ONO she's more willing to embrace the contact in the post.

I have seen them make those claims about Amihere, Boston, Rivers and basically any other top recruit who did commit with them. Despite Rivers famously saying that while she respects the program, she wanted to beat Uconn and not be apart of them, there was rumors on their forum that Geno and company had lost interest in Rivers as well, and that's why she said that.

Top 5 quarters of the season
We had 2 quarters against Howard that we won 22-2 but that was inferior completion. So against top 25 teams.

1. Championship game 1st quarter 22-8. 10-20 from the field but also dominated the glass and had 0 turnovers and caused 4

2. Third quarter Stanford. They hit a 3 pointer to start the quarter and go up 17!! Hello Henni we close with a 22-4 run on 9-18 and 3-5 3pt. Hold them to 3-13 and 7 turnovers

3. Fourth quarter vs UConn in the Bahamas. Just wore them down 16-3 to put a close game away. Only 6-14 but we held UCONN to 1-10 and numerous turnovers

4. First quarter vs UF 19-3. We were a modest 5-11 but 2-4 from 3 and 7-8 from the line. UF was 1-19 YIKES!

5. First quarter UGA 29-10!! Seemed like every thing went in the basket 10-16, 4-4 from three and 5-6 from the line

I thought Destanni would go higher in the draft. I think she rolled the dice and may have come out on the short end of the stick...

Also, Cunnane from NCSU...drafted just before Destanni....

Danged if you do and Danged if you don't...

I don't think she "rolled the dice" since she's a senior. Next year's draft class will be stronger. She needed to go this season. Her lack of size is her biggest negative and an extra year of college wouldn't change that.

Indulge me please for one post.....

After the MIZZOU game, the former board was infested with haters of DS and the team. It was nasty and mean with schadenfreude and these were supposedly Gamecock fans. It chapped my *** and i got just a little salty, my apologies 3 months after the fact.

But after a self imposed timeout.... I wrote this line in response to the haters ,

Yes, Mizzou had a night and they will remember it forever! But we are a going to have a season

This, If there was ever time to go it was now when she was getting the most attention at the biggest stage. Unfortunately her height is still used against her. The same occurred to Crystal Dangerfield a few years ago and Dana Evans last year, both short guards despite great college careers fell to the 2nd round. It also didn't help that most teams weren't really priotizing PGs.

Next year will be crazy because the the amount of talent. Players that went 1st and 2nd round in this draft could potentially find themselves going in the 3rd round or undrafted next season

Also remember that both Dangerfied and Evans made their teams a few years ago, with Dangerfield winning the Rookie of the year in her inaugural season so Destiny should fare well, especially since Indiana was in need of a point guard and stated that they feel they got the best steal of the draft last night.

Well put.

I just wish they had beaten Arky in the SECT in order that we would have had an opportunity to exact revenge,

Yep. It'll be interesting to see where Anatasia Hayes goes next season.

SEC big names not drafted yesterday: Amber Ramirez, Jenna Stati and Que Morrison.

Let’s talk transfer portal......
Who is out there..... I need help, tell me
SEC Winners and Losers, all teams subject to revision

SEC EAST

LOSERS👎
Missouri: four players leaving including star player Blackwell and very solid post player in Williams.

UGA: Coach Joni Taylor ouch! Players: Tough as nails starter Sarah Ashlee Barker. Future ALL SEC Janiah Barker. Two freshmen who were top 50 recruits, 6-4 Jillian Hollingshead and 5’11” Reigan Richardson. Also little used FR Tineya Hylton

UK: will they field a team next season????
Dre’una Edwards, Jasmine Massengill, Treasure Hunt, and Olivia Owens. Also some girl named Rhyne graduated. What the heck, they got one starter coming back

Vandy: Who in the world does Vandy have to lose you ask? Well three players who barely played and Oh, leading scorer Brinae Alexander 15ppg.

NEUTRAL🤷‍♂️➕➖⬆️⬇️

UF: Lose three players the best of which is Floor Tounders, Who was a back up post player

WINNER👍
Our Gamecocks: Retain Saxton and trade Eniya Russell for Kierra Fletcher

BIG WINNER 👍👍
UT: Get Rickea Jackson a terrific scorer, question about fit and other things but she is elite talent. They also get Minnesota starting PG Jasmine Powell 15ppg. For the first time in 5 years they have an actual PG

It used to be a big no-no to transfer within conference. Wasn't it considered a big deal that Lou Holtz allowed Kenny Irons to transfer to Auburn? Maybe I remember that incorrectly. Regardless, those days are over. Barker and Jackson transferred in conference and don't have to sit out a year.

I wish there was a site that kept track of all the transfers. The only player I know who's definitely landed somewhere else is Barker. I wonder if some of them will return.

That Auburn is in the other division play into his allowing Kenny to go?

I totally forgot about those players last night. I figured these players would at least have a shot in the third round. As much as I complained about Henderson being drafted late, at least she gets a chance to prove herself in training camp. These others players may get a shot as well but they don't get the guarantee like the drafted players do.

Yep. 12 teams do not add up to a lot of roster spots, but it doesn't really hit you until you see players of that caliber not even getting draft.

Believe it or not

I think We will have a better roster next year than this year

We Lose
Henderson, Wesolek, Grissett, Littleton and Russell

But Gain Watkins, Cooper and Fletcher.

Henny is a huge loss but Fletcher and Raven should be as good at distributing the ball. Speed cannot be replaced. Scoring and 3pt should be picked up by the whole team? Maybe??

For as good as we were this season, I don't think we remotely saw our potential. The new pieces can definitely play a significant role but even the returning players have a lot more they can add that could make this team one the all time greats.

We've barely seen the best of players like Cardoso, Rivers, Hall, Feagin and even Amihere. The offensive growth of Saxton and Beal would be huge to go along with the consistently good play from Cooke. Even Boston despite her great season could definitely go up another level and improve her efficiency as well. I'm excited for next season, really anything seems possible and it appears that much like last season whether we win or lose will largely depend on our play and less to do with the opponent.

Right now only UCONN, Stanford, and Tennessee have the talent to challenge us. But they all weaknesses that we don’t.

Nobody will have our depth. UConn will have great guard play with Bueckers, Fudd, Ducharme, Griffin(if she is healthy) and Muhl. Edwards and Juhasz are good but not the level or depth. If DeBerry or one of the two freshmen don’t become Monsters than you will see a repeat of championship game

Stanford loses 3 of their top seven and still have no pg. If Betts is anywhere near the hype, they will be real trouble in the post

UT has major talent and maybe a pg but no post depth

Assuming the roster stays intact, I think so.

The shortened version of the Pat Summit quote, rebounding wins championships.

The addition of Johnson + the new players make us a better rebounding team.

At least on paper. Rebounding at close to a 50% level is about positioning, length, athleticism and passion. Will we bring the same passion as last season is the only question for me.

Transfer portal winners and losers

SEC WEST

ALABAMA👍

Four out, Four in. The ins are better than the outs. Sarah Ashlee Barker and Loyal McQueen are instant starters

ARKANSAS➕➖⬆️⬇️

Three out that didn’t really play. One in, Saylor Poffenbarger. A top 25 recruit who ditched UConn early in the season. In my opinion it’s a win simply because Ark now has a
Teutonic Twosome Wolfenbarger & Poffenbarger

AUBURN ⬆️ Sorta Maybe

Five out but four just did not play. Jala Jorda averaged 6ppg as a part time starter is gone.
But the only in, Precious Johnson averaged almost the same and is a desperately needed 6’5”. Cleared space and got a big Who was a top 35 recruit

LSU ⬇️Sorta Maybe

Lost top Fr recruit Grace Hall who barely played. No one in so far. Mulkey needs to VERY active in the Portal if LSU has any chance to get back to the tourney. Got a feeling they are going to land at least one of the big fishes

OLE MISS⬇️⬇️
They lost 5, 1 starter and got one in return who played very little at Ark. Right now they are a very depleted with only 7 players. No recruits signed.... I think Coach Yo should have taken the UGA job. Going forward PORTAL OR DIE!

MISS ST⬇️⬇️

Five out including Rickea Jackson an Myah Taylor. Two in, Kourtney Weber, FSU, no help.
Alyza Winston, Michigan St. hurt most the year but avg 12ppg in 10 games. In prior full season averaged 11ppg good pickup if healthy. They do get 6’5” Jessika Carter back and have the #84 recruit coming in. They really jelled as a team last year, does it last with third head coach in less than 9 months

TEXAS A&M⬇️⬆️

Nobody in, nobody out. Maybe that’s a win in this day and time.

Thanks I will. Trying right now to gather a list of impact players to track.... the big fish so far are Blackwell, Owusu, Angel Reese and Janiah Barker. But the most intriguing are the Cavinder twins.... trust me😉google them

Dawn tells every recruit and her parents that "the main is the main thing." Meaning: Winning.

I guess "the main thing" for her isn't winning. And I'm not knocking Rivers for her decision. It's OK for a teenager to change her mind. She can't accuse Dawn of lying, though.

I wish her nothing but the best (except against us , of course).

In conference? I agree. Down year for the SEC overall, so USC and UT are the clear #1 and #2.

I'm not as bullish on the UT in terms of the national scene as some. I think they will miss Green and Dye more than people think. They clearly missed Green during the last quarter of the season after she went down with an injury. Those two players helped define the Vols as a physical defensive and rebounding team. Rickea Jackson plays soft for a 4, imo. She can score, though, and will be able to replace Burrell's offense. I guess UT could potentially add more players from the portal, so who knows how the final roster will look.
