I did not watch the game, but based on the score, I’m glad I did not. Was it the same old, same old on defense? We have to be the worst defensive team out of all the power conferences.

Can we try at 131 or something? I mean, just a couple possessions of it maybe stop trying to trap ball screens.

i've gone to recording each game. only watch it if they win. consequently, i've only seen a few games this year:sleep:. why waste 2+ hours each time?

This team is so bad. As has been mentioned many times it is disappointing to see how weak we are defensively. Almost giving up a hundred to NW! Wow! At least put forth effort on defense. This team does not play hard and that is on the coach.

Better than 50% probability we go 0-20 in the Big Ten and lose the first game in the BTT. I would say Rhoades has lost this team and I believe his firing is imminent at the end of the season. The only thing saving him is Mingo and his brother will be here next year (I doubt that happens) and/or we are too cheap to pay his buyout.

In my experience DII & DIII players can shoot a very high percentage from 3. The only thing stopping them is defenders getting in their face and PSU doesn't do that.

This. Even my shooting percentage soars when it’s one on none.

I think Mingo has been a disappointment this year. He's good for a freshman but IMO he hasn't lived up to his ranking. His defense is average. He's quick and can get into the paint but he's a poor perimeter shooter and he struggles to get the whole way to the rim. He's only a freshman and could turn out great but he hasn't make the immediate impact we hoped for.

PSU basketball against even midling Big 10 teams is comparable to if the PSU Club Hockey team would have to play games against the Big 10 Conference teams; they have basically no chance. This team and the other basketball team are complete embarrassments to this athletic program.

He probably has realized this program is hideous with no future and that has impacted his motivation and play. He probably is a little overrated but again is he getting good coaching?

The program needs a reset in the worst way. I thought Rhoades could be good but it clearly is not working. We need to pay the buyout and pay what it takes to get a proven winning coach at a P4 program. Easier said than done but that is what Kraft is paid to figure out.

Seriously- how do these ADs miss SO BAD on these coaches? He seems like a good PA guy, but VCU to here was idiotic. The only way this program will work is to get a big time name. Even a guy who was kind of big time at one point. This is a mess.

I don’t think he’s been a disappointment at all. This team would have five wins without him. leads the team in scoring assists steals, and I think his second in rebounds.
He doesn’t have very good teammates or else he would have more assists because they could actually make shots and he probably would even score a tick more because he could get into the lane more freely as well as be handling the ball and making free throws late when we were winning.
I put his freshman year on par with what Tony Carr did, and Carr had much better players with him. Both similarly ranked coming out of high school and neither one was known as a outside threat. There’s just no Lamar Stevens or Mike Watkins to help out.

Do you think he stays and we get his brother? I personally would be stunned. The program is in shambles and I am now seriously doubting if Rhoades is a good enough recruiter and coach to win even with both Mingo brothers.

I have seen enough of this dumpster fire. It is one thing to be 6-14 in B10 play while playing tough, have some fight in you with a stingy defense. That would mean there are reasons for hope and optimism. It is a completely different situation to be 0-20 or 1-19 while playing no defense and looking like a Div 3 team. We were tough against Michigan then the wheels fell off and the car seems permanently broken.

We've had DeChellis, Chambers, Ferry, Shrewsberry, and Rhoades and somehow they all sucked. Maybe it's the players they've been able to attract.

Or maybe the basis on which they are hiring is wrong? Why does everyone need some kind of ties to the University? Perhaps just hire a coach without him needing to either be from Pennsylvania, or have kids attending the school, or be recommended by an alumni.etc. I'm wondering why they all need some connections when the University has a history of being a perennial doormat? Do we think Indiana asked Cignetti if he had Indiana ties or kids attending IU?

His brother is trending big time towards Baylor. He was supposed to commit last week I think but put it off. I am guessing part of the deal is that Kayden is included.

Yeah we are losing both. Rhoades needs to go.

Shrewsberry had absolutely no ties to PSU or Pennsylvania. He took PSU to the NCAA tournament in his second season. Then Kraft pissed him off and he left. He might have left anyway for Notre Dame, but we'll never know.

Coming from VCU is not the problem. Rhoades' mentor Shaka Smart went to Texas and then Marquette and did very well (until this season). Rhoades' predecessor Will Wade went to LSU where we did very well.

Rhoades has had some bad luck with key injuries the prior two seasons, but his biggest problem is his unwillingness to recognize that the defense that worked so well for him in the A10 doesn't work in the B10 without better talent. Even Smart and Wade had to make some adjustments as they moved up the competition ladder.

One other piece of misfortune for Rhoades: YKN not deciding until late May to stay in the NBA draft. PSU had a large NIL package for him if he decided to stay. But by late May it was too late to acquire the needed talent, hence the overreliance on Euros. Either that or Kraft decided to use it for Gavin McKenna in the hockey program since McKenna committed a few weeks later with a large NIL package

Only 1.5 pt dog today. Whatever reason we struggle with Minnesota no matter how good they are, but I think this might be the chance to get their first conference win.

This is actually something I’ve wanted to see them try at times, going with a small lineup and playing some zone.

Back in the day I felt like I could hit almost every 3pt shot. That was until I played against athletic guys with long arms who close out quickly.

MBB: 0-10 in conference, WBB: 0-11 in conference. Has it ever been this bad before for Penn State basketball? Is the AD going to address this after the season?

What a terrible pass to lead to that set of free throws, but what a play at the end
