I could not be more pleased to see the players get their first Big 10 win. Finally got that monkey off their back.

However that in bounds play near the end was awful. Got to have a play to get the ball in when you know the other team is pressing. No excuse for that.

10 pt lead with 3:31 to play down to 1 pt with 2:31 to play.

You have a big lead the biggest thing you don't do is foul. 2s are fine because the clock keeps running and opponents don't have time to set up pressure. PSU failed miserably.

Mingo missed front end of 1-1, PSU had 4 TOs, Minney made several layups and 5 FTs that stopped the clock and allowed press to be set up.

Fortunately Durkin missed a couple of wide open 3s in the final minutes. Minny was 7-27 from 3 pt range but they were an astonishing 20-24 on 2 pt attempts which were mostly layups.

Mingo!!!

Comes thru at the buzzer, and PSU gets their 1st conference win of the season
Mingo shot 31% from the field to that point with 4 assists and 3 TOs but the shot at the end was the play of the year for PSU.

Back in the day, absolutely. For the past about 15+ years, no. If you pick up your dribble, you may pick up your pivot foot (take one step) to either shoot or pass. The only thing you can't do is dribble again or have your pivot return to the ground (two steps) without either shooting or passing first.

I don't like, but it been taught for 15+ years now.
I’ll take it but that’s a walk

do they call walking anymore?

Unless they determine it’s a “Euro step” or a “jump stop” then you can take as many steps as you want.😂

Yup exactly. Gave up 9 in less than a minute and NO answer for the press, then for whatever reason Minnesota quit pressing.

Thankfully, Minnesota did not try to pound the ball inside more as they had a definite advantage with the one guy if they wanted to use it. Reed was on fire in the first half, but took a few bad shots in the second half. He is the best defensive player on the team though you can give him some slack. Stewart played probably his best half of the year in the second half though he also still needs work defensively.

From the last point where they had a 10 point lead, they took a few bad shots and as mentioned above and made some unnecessary fouls. Plus when you’re winning by that much, there’s no need to leak out defensively, all five guys should be boxing out to defensive rebound, which did not happen for three or four consecutive possessions.

Good that they got to win, but definitely outcoached the last three minutes

Turned this on in the 2nd half. Of course, shortly after I start watching, Penn State starts falling apart. Minnesota did a great job with the press, and Penn State did their "try to run the clock out" by having a guy outside the 3 point line dribble until the shot clock is going down. Minnesota got some fortuitous calls as well. This game was way too competitive than it should have been. Penn State had the win right under their nose and nearly blew it. Mingo's last second shot was great and lucky.

I think this is the first time I've seen the team on TV this year. What I saw today looked too much like what we've seen for the past couple decades.

Is this the blind squirrel finding the nut theory at work? As has been posted, it is really hard to go 0-20 just like it is really hard to go 20-0.

We play Oregon on the road at some point. That game will determine who finishes last in the conference. Oregon will probably have their big guy back so I see us getting the honors of finishing dead last.

By the way, nice to see us notch a W.

I will admit that once Rhoades' teams win one they get on a bit of a roll. Of course Michigan is next but maybe Rutgers and Oregon. An upset of Ohio State and/or Iowa at home would be nice.

Any truth to the rumor that Minnesota is going to drop basketball after losing to this PSU team?

Mercy Rule

😞
Funny story. Years ago when my son was playing youth football the league had a rule that you forfeit the game if you win by more than 40. His team was really good and tied for the league lead. The game was a blowout at 39-0 and only subs played the second half. The coach told the backup RBs to run a few yds and take a knee which they did. The opponent had the ball near midfield with just a few seconds on the clock. Their coach called a TO before the final play where their QB ran backwards through the end zone for a safety. We forfeited because we won 41-0 and it cost us the league title. Even the opponent's fans booed their coach.
