Don't have any insight on that, but a few possible tangentially relevant items:

In the 2 years after Kraft took over:

PSU Men's BB Spending increased by over 50% (That, obviously, does not address whether or not it was spent on anything useful - or whether it was just "spent". And THAT is critical, of course.)

Recent changes in expenditures, by category, some of the key items:

Expenditures for Coaching Salaries:
More than doubled (largest single expense)

Support Staff Salaries:
More than doubled

Recruiting Expenses:
More than doubled (though it dropped - by around $200,000 - in the last reporting year. Was that an anomaly or a trend? Time will tell)

Overall, the Men's Basketball program has gone from a consistent money-maker (as is the case with all big-time basketball programs) to breaking even, to losing money.
Basically, because revenue has remained flat (approximately 10% increase - less than inflation) while expenses have increased by 60%. PSU has gone from consistently generating a profit (positive cash flow) of about 40% over and above expenses, to losing cash.

What were the root causes? Who was at fault/responsible? Pick your pony.
How does it get turned around? Who knows - but it would be hard to think those currently at the helm have an idea, or they would have already "done it" (One would suppose).

But the current trends/results are that PSU Men's Hoops - right now - has achieved the perfecta of being among the worst performers on the court AND being able to not make money out of what should be (and has been) a consistent ATM machine program.

Most of that info can be found here (within each year's reports):
Financial Reports - Penn State - Official Athletics Website
This speaks to both Rhoades and Kraft getting canned. That won't happen as Kraft will fire Rhoades possibly as early as the end of the season. Then Krafty's job hinges on if Campbell is successful. No one cares if he consistently gets the hoops hire wrong.

Adding Dylan Mingo won't do anything to make us win more than a couple more games next year. I'd bet dilione leaves especially if Mingo signs with us. We need some new guys at the 3 and 4 and a lot more shooting than what we have. Juric is a good player that we must keep. Stewart is a 6th or 7th man at best. Rice, reed, ciani are bad. Blackwell has a lot of upside.

PSU came out with energy but now they look tired and Wisconsin is beating them down the court regularly. Mingo & Dillione are trying to do it by themselves with desperation shots. This is looking like another 40 pt loss.

Just got home from my teams practice and I would’ve thought this was a potential upset when being that they are playing in Rec hall and they got their *** handed to them last game.

I guess I was completely wrong as I see. They’re down almost 30 at the half.

Yeah, it’s very concerning that there’s not any kind of effort defensively anymore. I didn’t watch the first half but is he still playing man-to-man and doubling in the post leading to wide open three-pointers? If he is then, yes they legitimately should think about getting rid of him because when you’re consistently giving up 90 points a game, you need to try something new defensively.

How do you give up a 38-9 run at home
Yep, you use all of your timeouts if you have to. There’s no sense in saving timeouts for the second half if you’re down 30 at the half consistently. Call timeouts, switch defenses make sure you get a play to your best guy getting to the basket so they can get free throws. That’s how you stop runs by getting to the free-throw line.

I thought he was a defensive guru.

Played a lot of 2-3… poorly. Wisky didn’t throw it to the block much, but their ball reversal and penetration killed PSU, especially on kick outs… just awful

Pat this is not what I rushed home to watch. Hope you got it right for men's football, or that's a pretty big shrine to ineptitude. Just sayin.

I'm fairly certain that Kraft needs to make a change here, regardless of how serious he is about putting a competitive team on the floor: This is a complete embarrassment to the University.

I’ve mentioned quite a few times recently that they haven’t tried anything different on defense, well this must be why because when they went to the 23, it was terrible. Read playing out on the wing when there’s nobody there in Wisconsin is overloading the other side of the floor. Nobody occupying the offensive player at the free-throw area and then as soon as he catches it his able to make a quick pass to an open shooter. That was about as bad of the 23 defense as I’ve seen in a long time.

Im pretty sure you are correct and you know what you are talking about but this goes beyond xs and os. This just can't continue. I think he needs fired tomorrow morning. At least show the alumni and paying fans that you care.

Wait until Mingos younger brother announces. If he does not pick Penn State, then go ahead and kick everybody to the curb. If he does pick Penn State, then rhoads would’ve pulled off the biggest upset in recruiting history.
